Hotel's Favourite
Finally decided to book 1 night stay at this Hotel after many trips to JB. It was a good choice!
Check-in was swift and the staff allowed me to check in early without charge. Got a room on the 28th floor. When I opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and also the size of the room! The room was spacious, cozy and the aircon was great!
The Hotel is located next to City Square connected to JBCC Komtar. In terms of food and shopping, it is in a great location! Also, it's next to the CIQ!
Breakfast spread was OK, sufficient for a hearty breakfast.
Am glad that I finally stayed here and definitely looking forward to staying here again, when the price is right!

We came here on 6th April to celebrate my birthday with family ,our room number 2401 & 2402 ..I must say we really enjoyed our stay here.. from the front office to the pool the staffs are so humble, friendly and helpful, so well trained by the management.. we went to the lounge just to chill and have some drinks , was amazed how only two staff was working on that shift but they were so patient and quick serving us , the staff is a Chinese lady and a Indian boy with spec sorry not sure their name .. room service and housekeeping was good aswell properly maintained the cleanliness.. next for the breakfast the food is tasty and good , all freshly cooked , love the croissant, Nasi lemak condiments all fresh not like other hotels the anchovies is so hard and salty only cheap quality anchovies served here from the anchovies , sambal boiled egg all fresh , hot station , cold station all so good just it was weird to have stir fried brinjal and chicken soya sauce for breakfast but I’m not complaining just my review though, huge kudos to the F&B team chef Bobby and his kitchen team very humble , chef Bobby was so helpful clearing our doubts about the food and he even take our feedback so patiently ,food all labeled accordingly.. not like other hotels they don’t bother to label and all mixed up with beef as some of them don’t consume beef same like us.
Mr Osveen Felix the operation manager so humble and helpful , I guess other 5 stars hotel should learn from this team how to maintain the standards .. I’m from F&B line and been work with several managements so I knew how the food is prepared but I can’t see any flaws here .. definitely will revisit here and will recommend to friends and families. aswell .. the best hotel in town sorry have to say this 2 times better then forest city marina hotel when comes to food and services .. this hotel prefer the quality over quantity which is very rare to be found in most of the hotels nowadays , hats off dear team!!!!! ( ps: I’m not paid by this hotel for review ya, this is my personal experience I had from my stay 😊)

Sheryll and Faniz at the front desk were both friendly and accommodating. Concierge was able to hold our bags after checkout while we finished up some last minute shopping at the malls downstairs.
I believe the hotel is 32 floors high, but the lobby is on the 8th floor, above the Komtar shopping mall. Parking entrance to the hotel is on the 7th floor.
Location of the hotel couldn’t be better, as it’s directly linked to the CIQ (customs/immigration) coming in from Singapore. Even though it was raining heavily when we arrived, the linked walkways from CIQ to the hotel were fully covered so we didn’t get wet.
High water pressure in our room even though we were on the 29th floor. Both our rooms had a good view of the straits and the city. Room has all the basic amenities, including bathrobes and room slippers. Housekeeping can be improved, as there were rings of stubborn stains on the surfaces of the tables and mold building up around the sink.
We added breakfast to our room reservation and were glad we did. Breakfast buffet has a wide selection of food, including egg station and noodles station. Drinks were self serviced as well.
Swimming pool and gym room were on the 31th floor. Pool is closed at night, but the gym was opened 24 hours.
We would stay here again for the location.

Check-in at close to 6pm in the evening was not crowded, but the staff at the counter did not want to acknowledge us and we had to look around like a lost sheep to see if anyone can help us. Thankfully the junior staff was friendly when she checked us in.
Our welcome points were not credited in for our first visit last month - we had to ask for it this time.
Housekeeping staff are always friendly but they seem overwhelmed by the workload. On my first visit in September, a floor mat was missed out. On my most recent visit in October, the tissue box was missed out. Hair can also be seen beneath the fitted sheet.
The room’s blackout curtains are good, but the smoke detector flashes green light very frequently and it’s very annoying. The aircon control on the wall and the phone clock display are very bright as well. For a light sleeper this is a nightmare.
We were in the last room xx05 that was beside a “suite” (a bigger room with a bathtub). What another nightmare. Behind our tv seemed to be the other room’s plumbing for the shower / bathtub. Every time they return late at night, the plumbing will create a loud, dull and persistent sound that is very audible. I tried to ask to change my room but it was not possible as it was full house.
The breakfast buffet had a lot of hardworking staff but they seemed overwhelmed as well. Variety was ok but nothing stood out for the taste. The egg station was in the same space as diners with no exhaust hood. As such, my hair smelled weird at the end of breakfast.
Overall, the location to CIQ is unbeatable but there are other better choices I believe. I’ve cancelled my planned stay next month to go for another hotel as I’m quite disappointed with this one.

Holiday Inn Johor Bahru City Center has become a popular hotel with Singaporeans and tourists alike, as it is situated in a centralized location with two huge shopping malls, Komtar Shopping Mall and City Square, within the vicinity, so there are lots of restaurants and shops for retail therapy.
Reception is on the 8th floor via access from the ground floor lifts PL1 and PL2. These lifts do not serve the guest room floors so we have to head over to level 8 to take either lifts PL3, PL4 or PL5 to the guest rooms.
Fahana checked us in efficiently and our room is spacious, modern and tastefully decorated, overlooking the Johor straits and the northern region of Singapore. As it was our wedding anniversary, our bed was decorated with towel swans and rose petals and to add a personal touch, a card from Ibrahim and Amou. When we came back to the room that night, we were pleasantly surprised to see a plate of strawberry sliced cakes, in celebration of our wedding anniversary. It was a very sweet and thoughtful gesture from the hotel staff.
There are 2 types of pillows – firm and soft, Daikin aircon unit so it is very comfortable for sleeping. I am glad that I get to choose the pillow texture as I am a very light sleeper.
The gym, infinity swimming pool (1.5 m), jaccuzi (1 m), 2 cabanas and a few deckchairs are on the 32nd floor. There is no children’s pool so on the 2nd morning while we were there, the pool was crowded with families and young children, and we could hardly swim.
Breakfast has a good variety with live eggs station, noodles station, Teh Tarik station, coffee machines that serve cappuccino, americano and latte. To place the eggs order, we have to present the green chit on our table, indicate table number, tick our request for either fried egg, poached egg or omelette and state the quantity, to the chefs at the eggs station and the eggs will be served to our table when they are ready. Besides a good selection of pastries of croissant, apple lattice puff, chocolate bun, there is a small selection for gluten-free muffin and bread. There is even a kid’s corner where chocolate muffins, potato wedges and assorted doughnuts are served, much to the delight of little kids. There is also a salad bar, different types of cereals, porridge, nasi lemak and a platter of fresh fruits.
We would recommend Holiday Inn as a reliable hotel with impeccable service, cleanliness and good food or simply just chilling. We would love to be back to Holiday Inn JBCC again as we had a wonderful break there.

The location is definitely much better than Doubletree where we usually stay before this new hotel started. Located just above Komtar mall, it is an excellent base for you to shop at City Square as Komtar unfortunately did not refresh their shops directory and letting most of their stores into a sorry state. Parking was difficult as all drivers have to park at level 7 of the narrow multistorey carpark and the curved ramps are very narrow and definitely not in accordance to any current building codes. Luxury vehicles and SUVs/ MPVs have to be wary when going up the carpark. It is also an open air carpark with no shelter.
No upgrades for me since day 1 at this hotel as a platinum IHG member but the frontline staff was very patient in explaining to me that they are in high occupancy over the weekends which is evident during breakfast time. The frontline staff always make it up to me by offering us free breakfast in lieu of the room upgrades for IHG elites. Rooms are clean and spacious with new interiors due to the new age of the hotel, but I do find the beds pretty hard for a hotel from all my experience of staying in hotels. Walls and doors are pretty thin with bad soundproofing, where we can even hear plumbing and drainage noises from the toilet upstairs whenever someone else showers. Also, ask for rooms that are located away from the lift shafts as they tend to be very noisy with mechanical noises that will keep you awake at night.
Breakfast queue was horribly terrible and thus need to be there early to prevent the long hungry wait. Egg station was chaotic and guests will just snap up any cooked omelettes or eggs ordered by previous guests and placed on the counter waiting for their rightful owner. Restaurant should implement order slips just like in other hotels with big crowds to prevent such food hijacking. Food top ups were also rather slow and some dishes were left empty for sometime.
Overall, it is a fresh hotel with good location for its price range. It has definitely replaced Doubletree as the first stop for Singaporeans looking for a short weekend getaway. I had kept coming back..until it loses it's magic in future.

Having just completed a quick 24 hrs stay in this property at their King suite, here are some of my thoughts.
Location
Stay here if proximity to the CIQ and surrounds for food is important. Many F&B outlets featured on various social media platforms are within an easy 10 to 15 mins walk. Komtar and jbcc is also a stroll away.
Crew
Staff are polite and well trained. Kudos to Indiri from the cafe at level 8 and our housekeeper, Kamijah. You ladies are a credit to this property and I hope that management recognises your positive contributions to this hotel.
Hotel
Love the 24|7 access to the gym especially early risers like myself who likes to begin the day at 5am.
Things that are unique which requires adjusting for me
Front desk is on level 8. Guest are required to access the first set of lifts from ground level to reception and another trio of 3 lifts for floors 9 to 32. Do allocate lots of time during rush hours. The cozy size of the lifts can accommodate 4 to 5 adults with cabin size luggages comfortably, other configurations will usually result in an interesting squeeze.
Although my king suite on floor 29 came with all the advertised fixtures, I cannot see myself returning in the immediate future. Unsure if this is due to this being my 4th of 5 hotels for this trip, the thin walls allowing one to hear conversations from the neighbour next door, inconsistent wifi speeds, the fixed position of the flat screen which only allowed for a minimum tilt and not the ability to swivel or attach external streaming devices. Although screen casting is possible, my preference to stream my own choice of media is important if residing for a couple of days.
This property suits guest who values location, convenience and happy to crash on a firm bed after a day out.

Good location, view from room was great, rooms were well-cleaned, amazing and not to mention safe & secure hotel.
We had stayed in room #3117 during our quick getaway, and accidentally forgot to retrieve a valuable item from the in-room safe. Special thanks to the Housekeeping Team for being high on alert, and not to mention their honesty and integrity. We sincerely hope the relevant Housekeeper who turned over the room upon our departure on 20 June would receive the necessary commendation for his/her efforts.
Kudos to the hotel team - Xavier, Fatin and Fairus for upholding a safe & secure environment, and for looking after us as guests.
With the great location, comfortable room and the high standards of integrity, it has left us with a memorable experience, and we will definitely be back when we are in JB!

Great location, just a few mins walk away from CIQ, very easily accessible and easy to find. Its veery convenient to get a grab there too, easy to pin on your app. But other than that its hmm...
Front Desk:
1. Staff dose not seem to be too interested in the guest that are in front of them
2. Front desk agent probably needs more training, since when during check in you only need to register the main guest and not the company. The agent that checked me in specifically told me that I do not need to register the second guest. Potential security issue.
3. Not sure if IHG have changed their standards but during check in they no longer recognise IHG members.
Housekeeping:
1. Not sure if im unlucky or the supervisor did not do a good job in checking the room before guest check in, both laundry bag and slippers were missing and when i ask the front office about it, the agent was rather impatient.
2. The fridge was not cold, and had sticky liquid on the storage surface, utterly disgusting tbh
3. The shower blind is a joke, it does not work with the switch in the bathroom and needs me to pull it down manually.

This is a nice brand new hotel centrally located with almost direct access to City Square and Komtar Mall. In fact it’s the second time I’m staying here within the year because we loved the location and design of the hotel. But on this second stay we finally discovered the flaws. We were allocated a family suite on level 29 in the corner and thought wow great to be on almost the top floor! But guess what - we were located right next to the service store room so the entire time we could hear the service staff banging the doors as they went in and out to get their supplies. And from 6am this morning I got woken up by sudden loud loud booming erratic thuds. Could not figure out what it was for a while - upon investigation turns out we were placed right below the gym and this was the sound of weights being dropped on the floor! Truly terrible for the hotel to be planned this way. Avoid level 29 rooms at all cost and ensure you are not allocated a room next to the service store!!!
