Very very basic. Smelt, dead cockroaches on the floor and bath tub was so old it had white tile grout to fix up the cracks. Rude man at reception, very noisy at night and couldn’t wait to leave! Air con was good but the air con water dropped on the tin roof all night. The ‘eating’ / games area had chairs everywhere, was dust and unwelcoming like a deserted house Photos don’t show how basic in is…..don’t stay there.

We stayed in this hotel just for one night. Is is simple but absolutely OK for a short stay. Outstanding was the friendliness of the manager and staff. He picked us up from the bus stop and even drove us to a self washing laundry and from there back to the hotel. Thanks so much!

Stayed for a night for stop over journey to Johor Baru. Old building but standing strong up on the hill facing the South China sea. Very peaceful environment. Affordable budget resort, quite clean. Nice air-con helped by the ceiling fan. Spacious room but the bathroom needs more attention especially cleanliness and the bath tub should be replaced. Simple breakfast but it is tasty. If needed a peaceful hideout place, this is suitable.

A stop off on the way up the East Coast of Malaysia, we booked the Mersing Merlin hotel off their website, Photos looked very good but sadly it is a bit run down by a lack of maintenance and care. They give two bottles of water each day but there is no where to cool them down (No Fridge), which then makes a water bottle not very nice to drink. They have a breakfast only but that only serves certain foods, sadly the food is all cooked in Palm Oil, which does not taste nice. So a Toast only meal with either Marmalade or Kaya. They had a swimming pool there, which looked nice, the young families used it but there was no seating around it at all for the parents to sit while watching the kids play. The water pressure was good and the wife thought the toilet was very clean, pity a face towel was not given. The room had a balcony which allowed us to watch the tide come in and the morning sun raising, very nice to see. we were on the third floor which we had to use stairs only. Free WIFI was given but it kept dropping in and out so not to good for gaming for the kids. The room had Air con which was not very loud, it did not keep us awake during the evening.

Room Tip: rooms on the top floor had a better view, Room 308 was the one we used.

The hotel is peaceful and withdrawn from the road and city. It is surrounded by tropical vegetation. Our room was very basic, but clean. It could use a renew. Whilst we were lounging around the pool, the maintenance person insisted on power washing the site with a noisy water pump. The food in the restaurant was very flavourful. The hotel is about a ten minute taxi ride from the ferry and bus terminals.

An average hotel with basic amenities. Best point was the staff. They were friendly. Breakfast was basic too with a choice of either basic local dish or basic American. Need a car to move around but location was very close to local eateries by the beach side.

This was exactly what we needed a clean quiet place to lay our heads before going to tioman, so good in fact we have booked it again for a night when we leave before we go off to Kuantan. Clean rooms, average breakfast and a pool (although we didn't use it)

Mersing Merlin Inn is a very old hotel and looked like it had not been renovated for a long time. Cracked tiles and cracked window. The ancient furniture were not re-varnished. No wardrobe, fridge or hair dryer. Poor wifi in room, satisfactory wifi near reception area. No shops in the immediate vicinity.

This hotel is a bit outside Mersing to the north. The rooms are very comfortable, large bath rooms, good comfort, good linens. Excellent breakfast and very helpful staff. Quick laundry service. No elevator, so ask for assistance with your luggage. Restaurant is very good. The pool is clean and large, showers provided at pool side. Wifi is weak in the room, but good in lobby and restaurant. Large off-road parking behind hotel. Hotel provides shuttle service to and from Mersing upon request. Walking distance to ocean front. Instead of booking a resort on one of the islands, we booked this hotel and used Rafi Boat Tours for a day tour with island hopping, call him at 017 7473734.
