Arrive in Mersing… Check Be greeted by Alangs Rawa boat crew …. Check Hand over bags to crew, sit back and travel …. Check Watch the talcum powder beach come into view…. Check Be greeted by Alang Rawas team …. Check Move into the beach based rooms and crank up the AC …. Check Take in the beauty of this place. It is truly amazing …… Check And relax ……. Check We spent over a week on the island (adults and children) and were blown away by this special little place. You can get a true island experience and can spend the entire time there completely disconnected from the rat race (but yes there is WI-FI if you must!!) If you want a real break where you can live in your swimmers and walk bare foot to and from your beach based room to eat, you can! The South China Sea even claimed the 1 pair of flip flops I’d taken but it didn’t even matter (until I needed to leave! 😂) The island can offer opportunities to swim, snorkel, canoe, charter a boat to go fishing and island hopping through crystal waters, time to sunbathe and sea shell hunt and eat….. a lot …. the food is amazing and made freshly for every sitting. This is an un pretentious, relaxed and relaxing island which should be on everyone’s ‘bucket list’ …..

Small island paradise! I came to visit for the first time this summer and it was an amazing experience. From the moment before you even get to the island you are welcomed by the friendly team and receive brilliant service throughout the whole trip. Besides the gorgeous beaches and rooms, the selection and quality of food was perfect. Highly recommend whether you’re with family or friends!

This is truly an escape from city life. I've returned to Alangs Rawa four times in the course of a year as it's an easy beach trip from Singapore. The house reef teems with life (eels, cuttlefish, stingrays, baby sharks, tonnes of fish and once, a turtle!). The kayaking is super fun, and it's just a wonderful experience. There is much to say about the wonderful service as well - people are friendly and will do their absolute best to accommodate your requests. Food is AMAZING (shout out to the chef!). Visitors should expect that rooms are pretty basic and that the water for showers is salty but clean (drawn from a well). However this is island living. Instead of lounging in a 5 star room, you'll be on the beach stargazing or snorkeling. It is all an escape from TVs, screens and the trappings of the city. Expect to get sandy, salty, and a bit wild. You will still have air conditioning 😆 Do note that behind the scenes, staff HAND CARRY fuel to the generator each week to provide guests with this comfort (and for hot water heaters to run). Thank you to Alangs Rawa and all its staff (a bit thanks to customer service manager the indomitable Sheena and all the boys on staff) for four wonderful stays. I'll see you next season.

Had such an amazing time at RAWA. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The food was on point especially the BBQ at night. The rooms were all well maintained and really gave us the beach house vibe that we were looking for. Also it being a private island,we got exactly what we paid for! Looking forward to our next trip!

Alangs Rawa is stunning, it’s like being washed up on a bounty island The buffet meals are totally delicious, plentiful & the choice is amazing with everything being cooked fresh at each serving. The rooms are right on the beach, have AC & hot water & very comfortable beds It’s the perfect, very safe family hide away & I can’t recommend it highly enough. It has a very happy bunch of long serving staff who can’t do enough for you !! Fabulous!!

No value for money. I had a terrible experience at Alangs Rawa Hotel. I did not like anything about it. First, the room was small, with no glass on the windows, so super noisy and hot, and I encountered huge cockroaches. The bathroom had a foul smell, and the drains emitted a disgusting odor. The faucet in the sink didn't work properly. They provided only one small towel per guest. The bed sheets were stained with bleach marks. They don't clean the inside of the duvet between guests because they have to send it to the mainland for washing, and it had a sickening odor of someone else's sweat. The pillowcases were dirty inside. They don't clean the room at all. Very unconformable with sand on the flor, bedsheets, etc. They only provide you with one small bottle of water the first day, for the rest of the stay you must buy the water from the bar (10+mr), but you have no fridge to store it, so you have warm water all the time. In the room there was nowhere to leave your clothes, not a little bedside table or chest of drawers, a chair... so you have your belongings... on the floor. Not even a glass to leave your toothbrush. The service was absolutely horrible, and it seemed like they didn't care about it. They didn't have clean towels for three days. I called in advance to ask if I needed to bring towels, and they assured me they had them. Later, they said they had run out and gave me a dirty one from another guest. This is unacceptable and a health hazard. When you order drinks, they take an eternity to bring them. I ordered one drink and they brought me a different one. When I told them I hadn't ordered that, the waiter insisted that I was mistaken. The hotel supposedly doesn't allow children on weekends, but when we arrived, they apologized because they had at least 10 children on the island. It was a nightmare when all we wanted was a peaceful rest. We had kids screaming outside our cabin until 11:30 p.m. without anyone saying anything to them. Truly unacceptable. If this were a cheap hotel, I wouldn't complain as much, but considering how expensive it is and the terrible service you receive, I would never recommend anyone to go there. The hotel next door offers more comfort. The internet doesn't work at all. The beach is beautiful, a spectacle of beauty, but the hotel is a nightmare. It was my fourth visit, and it has worsened significantly. In the past, it wasn't as expensive, and the service was infinitely better. The place has great potential, but the management of it is a nightmare.

The good: 1. Pristine white sand. 2. The beach is clean with no plastic bottles or rubbish in sight. 3. Clear blue waters (but nothing compares to waters in islands off Sandakan and Tawau) 4. 3 decent meals a day with sufficient variety of dishes. 5. No religious officers in sight to lecture female beach goers about their bikinis or males with beach shorts. It’s a private island and it’s wonderful. The bad: 1. Rooms are as basic as it’s comes. No TV, mini fridge, kettle, self serving in room coffee or tea facility. 2. Basic as it comes also means no housekeeping. You can help yourself to a broom to clean your room. No change of towels even after a day in the salty water. 3. Water for shower taste salty. The soap and shampoos provided just makes your skin and hair feel uncomfortable. 4. Nothing in this island says it’s managed sustainably. Drinking water is shipped in daily along with ice, diesel for the generator. God knows how the water supply and sewage is managed here… 5. No Wi-Fi…. 6. No hairdryer…. 7. Their website states adults only during weekend so, be prepared for late night party music late into the night, perhaps even early hours of the morning. But if you are a party animal, party on…. The ugly: 1. Full board does not include drinking water. Yes, they feed you but not hydrate you. And as we know humans can survive longer without food than water. So be prepared to spend copious amount of money on water. You can of course try to carry bottles of water purchased at the jetty before boarding the speedboat to the island. A 2 litre water bottle will set you back at RM10. 2. They charge for EVERYTHING. If you decide to pack some instant cup noodles, without a kettle in your room you will need to go to the main lounge for hot water. THEY CHARGE FOR HOT CUP WATER…. RM3 for 150ml of hot water… 3. Beverage from the bar is expensive. RM18 for fruit juice? Well of course if you’re coming from euro or dollar country even SGD country drink on…. 4. Snack menu is ridiculously expensive too. RM38 for deep fried calamari? Heck the ocean is just there and seafood oh so abundant. The squids must be really hard to catch… 5. Alcohol… yes… the poison of choice for lazy beach holidays. Corkage will be charged if you decide to BYO booze. Be prepared to pay top 5star hotel rates. Wine at RM60 and hard booze at RM150. Limited Mixers provided but they charge for ice…. Yeah… RM15 for an ice bucket. To conclude: 1. Be prepared to spend more money being there. Water, booze, snacks. A picture of our restaurant bill compliments from me for your reading pleasure. We came in a group of about 45, so the bill does look chaotic. 2. Make room in your luggage for a hairdryer, detergent to clean your swimwear and some clothes if you intend to stay long, perhaps a kettle? 😆 3. If your are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs so that late night music won’t bother you 4. Make sure you are dress in flip flops and shorts when boarding the speedboat from the jetty. No passenger jetty when you reach the island, so you will need to jump into the water and wade your way to shore.

Talking about Alang's Rawa - We did not know that such a beautiful place existed till my wife, and I were there for a 4-day 3 night stay for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Our stay at Alang's Rawa was such a beautiful experience with 3 meal buffet, unlimited snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming (all for RM 100 deposit which was returned on our last day), so technically speaking the activities with the equipment's were free of charge. The sound of the waves and the breeze, together with the twinkling stars at night is still fresh on our minds. Waking up to a serene scenery was literally the moment everyone should feel. Not forgetting the wonderful, cheerful, friendly, sporting crew who was always there whenever you needed them. So being a good husband, I decided to surprise my wife on the island for our anniversary. To my surprise they replied to my email and agreed to hear my plans out. All I can say is, they heard my idea and translated everything into action and gave us a memorable moment. With the sunset on the background and the right romantic moment, we could exchange our marriage vows and rings. Speaking about the rooms, to be honest all their rooms are facing the sea from various directions. The best is still the A shaped room and the Jungle room which was where we stayed. Even, the rooms taught us a great lesson whereby to trust each our neighbours because all the rooms on Alang's land does not have a key and it takes a lot of courage to leave you valuables and go out to do about your daily activity. The whole environment makes you feel so comfy and safe till you forget the negativity. Our sincere thanks from the bottom of our heart to the management team of Alang's Rawa, Lorraine (The Boss), Sheena (The Awesome run to person), Sous Chef Apau, Chef Saad and team (Top Notch cooking with quality taste), Helmi (The cool fisherman), Dino (The best beverage suggester), David (The sincere helpful guy), Ivan (Bar Boy), Aween (The time keeper for boat transfers) and rest of the crew member, you guys made our stay unimaginably unforgettable. Finally, we wish to say what we said on our last day on the island which remains the same till this very moment and it will always be, "We left a big piece of our heart at Alang's Rawa"

Stayed here for 2nights with some friends. We were prepared for sea water in the taps based on the other reviews but in fact we actually had no running water. We could not flush the toilet or shower for the whole weekend. Aircons either didn't exist or were not working throughout our stay in the room. There were lots of mosquitoes. Wifi was terrible. I would say this is more of a beautiful camping spot with nice food. Nevertheless it was a fun stay as it was with a group of friends. For reference, the resort next door had fresh/rain water in their taps and they had so much water they were watering their plants. They also had air con in all their rooms and good wifi reception (I checked). We tried booking a room there so we could shower but they were full. Highly recommend the island, just don't stay at Alangsrawa.

We’re blessed to have great sunny weather throughout our stay in this beautiful island. The Hosts are heart warming and paying attention to details. Requests are met without delay to meet our needs. The Food is simply awesome and tasty. Three times a day and it’s our highlight of the day. On Saturday, we have had barbecue food right on the beach with the sea breeze and waves freshening the air. The Rooms are authentic with a nostalgic feel. Each room is designed to give maximum view of the sea. Most amazing thing is there is not a single mosquito here! The Facilities keep us very occupied throughout the day. We just can’t get enough of the white sand and glistening waters. It’s the best family trip ever since the pandemic. We encourage you to make this place your first trip.
