The amenities listed by this hotel is a misrepresentation. There was no wifi in the room. It was so weak could hardly be used. This hotel is advertising wifi which is totally untrue. The staff advised to use the wifi in the lobby. WHAT? Bring all the files down to the lobby in the night without a desk to work..... what were they thinking. I thinking the authorities licensing this hotel should be notified to look at the dirty bathrooms. This hotel should not allowed to operate till they clean up their act. Rooms are extremely old and they shut off hot water in the night. It's a nightmare
Basically, it is a no frills hotel. It comes with a variety of different rooms from 3 bed to 4 beds or 2 queens bed. Pretty sizable room. Air con is working well. Comes with breakfast. With cereals, egg station, toast bread, noodle and fried rice. Good for family. Walking distance(5 min) to the center
We spent one night in Mersing prior to catching a boat to one of the offshore islands (Pulau Rawa), given that the boats depart to the islands mid to late morning spending a night in Mersing is almost unavoidable if travelling from Kuala Lumpur (or even JB or Singapore). Booked the Tomotel Hotel at the last minute and got an Executive Suite for approx USD 76. Yes the hotel may be a bit old, and in need of a bit of "love & care", but the room we had, or rather rooms, were seriously massive (see photos) at 60 sqm (646 sq ft) consisting of an entrance hall, massive living room with armchairs and sofas, bathroom / shower and a completely seperate large bedroom with large double bed. The room had free wi-fi, coffee making facilities, TV and ironing facilities. The hotel had ample free parking. The staff were pleasent and helpful (telling us the best restaurants to have dinner in Mersing). The room also allowed smoking, a personel preference !! Possibly the only negative was the limited toiletries in the bathroom. The hotel itself is excellently located being right next to the bridge across the Mersing River, which means it is only a short, less than 5min walk, from the centre of town where all the Mersing Seafood restaurants are located. It is a +/- 5 min drive from the ferry terminal. Highly recommended if looking for a hotel in Mersing for a night prior to heading to one of the glorious offshore islands. We thought that the Executive Suite was very good value for money.…
Old-school, dated, stuffy and in need of a major upgrade, Timotel could be fine for a single night, but longer stays shouldn't be attempted here. Staff seems to be under the impression that Timotel is something to write home about. That may have been the case in a previous era... For instance, if you need wifi, do not stay here. At Timotel, wifi is still considered a bonus if it works. You'll get all the usual suspects that were common 5-10 years ago when you ask why the wifi is down: modem-rebooting, telco issues, etc etc, but bottom line, here we are, in 2019: no wifi. The corridor carpet seems to date from a few decades ago; it's patched, stained and really on its last legs. It could explain the muggy atmosphere. Our room lights didn't come on and we were told that this sometimes takes 30 minutes! I kid you not. If you want to stay here, benchmark low and you'll be fine.…
This hotel was a very pleasant surprise. We expected little after our previous stay at another hotel in Mersing. From the moment we walked in and were greeted by an obliging, engaging and knowledgeable reception it changed our expectations. They could not do more to help. The room was plain but large and clean. The second surprise was the restaurant which provided the best meal we had in Malaysia or Singapore. it was very generous, reasonably priced and well cooked and presented There was a courtesy bus to the ferry and or bus station. We would definitely stay there in future if needing a night in Mersing.
