If you are thinking of staying here, don’t. It was most likely quite grand about 30 years ago, but nothing has been done since. In my room, the Tv doesn’t work, neither does the fridge, no hot water, aircon struggling, shower pressure very low.

It's been long time I didn't write my review about my travelling activity. End of July I was staying with my husband and my toddler son.i don't mine if the hotel was old or else.however the service that the reception give so not called hotelier. The reception staff all are gentlemen,no politeness and happy to serve a guest. My room very clean and big.however the aroma when you open the room not nice.its smell so sticky. During night time there is no air conditioning. My kattle in room got problem we have report to them at reception but no action , I can't boil hot water to make my son milk.its need my husband come down at down stairs to take it by him self.the hotel staff not show that their wanted to help us. So for me even it's cheap but not worthy to stay if the staff not willing to help.

Good customer service and good location, within city center. But the hotel itself need a serious makeover, old design interior and exterior. clean bathroom. but the room is too noisy. can hear outside of the room or next door talking.

if you wanna blink...do it now..because this story of mine will bring u into a lot of fantasy.. why? don't believe me? ok..first..i was a desperate traveller at the time i booked this hotel because i did not plan my trip, don't even plan where i'm going with my family..i'm out from my home in malacca at 8pm, stop by at my parent's in KL at 10pm then straight on my journey to no where up to north.. at 12midnight, my wife asked me where do i wanna go..i replied to her "actually i don't know" :) then i stop at the rest area at RTC Perak, eat & rest, i start looking for hotels and tripadvisor suggest me Hotel Grand Crystal Kedah.. reasonable price, good looking hotel, near to town, easy access to local food restaurant and a lot of things going on nearby to this hotel.. in blink of eyes, my mother finger tap onto the confirm booking tap.. proceed with payment.. off we go to the Hotel in Alor Setar.. simple as that!!..i arrived there at 6pm (drove the car at 80-90 km/h) i stop in front of the hotel.. go to the lobby.. hit the bell and pop!! the receptionist appear infront of me.. a good looking man in his hotel uniform with a smile he greet me "welcome to Hotel Grand Crystal Kedah, Sir"..i gave him the detail of my booking.. and i know i'm suppose to check-in earliest at 2pm.. but trying my luck i asked him for early check-in..and guess what? he willingly and kindly said that he will assist me with the early check in without any cost impact :)..wow!! very good hotel i said to myself.. then after he check here & there.. confirm!! i can enter my room at 11am.. yes!! now i only have to bring my family for a breakfast and then fill our time until 11 am by going around city of Alor Setar.. at 11am i when there, my key is ready and my check in process is complete.. very fast.. very efficient & offcourse i'm very happy.. we had a very comfortable stay there for 4 days & 3 nights.. but offcourse there is some setback of this hotel, its very old building and due for refurbishment, the breakfast preparation is not so variety and even there is no refill once the food is finish but there is still people comes for breakfast and we only take what left in the tray.. in overall, it is a good hotel, nice and spacious.. but need some management involvement in getting the building look attractive and to make it more fun.. i strongly recommend this hotel and please try it yourself.. u will feel satisfied.. the end....

My first impression of this hotel is that it looks dark & gloomy. The hotel looks like it never had any renovation to improve its appearance since the 1970s, from the dusty fountain, creaky elevators, everything here looks antique. They had an air conditioning problem since the time i checked in, until around 10PM. I will never recommend this hotel to any friends or family. Avoid at all costs.

The staffs are friendly & helpful. Location is very good & convenient to shopping center & food court is nearby. The room & corridor is damp & smelly. Room interior need to upgrade. The air condition is not working though I have on it for whole day. Overall, this hotel need to upgrade & refurbish.

The front office staff and the handicapped challenged housekeeper are friendly. The mattress are comfortable. The hotel is located strategically near restaurants, coffee shops and hawker centre. The Aman Central Mall is about 15minutes walk from the hotel. That is all which are the good points for the hotel. This hotel is old and badly in need of a renovation. The hotel bathroom is really bad, old and dirty. The water heater activates only after a good 10minutes of running water from the fixed shower. the hot and cold knobs were loose as well as the shower selector. I will give the bathroom a 2 out of 10 (2/10). The room has no safe deposit box. The cabinets were dusty. The air con looked dirty and cannot be controlled even after removing the key from the socket. The view of the pool from the room clearly indicates the pool looked mouldy and dirty. A visit to the pool confirmed it. We were informed that the breakfast was buffet but they only had bread, butter, jam, choice of 3 cereals of which 2 were old tasting, coffee and tea. After much deliberation with the front office staff we were served with some sausages, chicken nuggets, fried eggs, cakes, and fruits. The next day we had buffet of some decently spread of local dishes. I asked the waiter to have the kitchen to break the soft boil eggs. The waiter used his hands to break the eggs and realised it was full boiled. He had long dirty nails. I just immediately asked him to get the kitchen to fry eggs for all of us. From this I can only conclude that the staff were untrained and lack hygiene, The next day we just decided to skip breakfast. The wifi was weak with a minimum number of guest. In conclusion weighing the pros and cons, the cons outweighed the pros. I would give this hotel a poor rating of 3/10. The 3 for the staff in my beginning paras. Preferably such hotels should not be on the various hotel websites until they are renovated and maintained and the staff re-trained.

An old hotel but very good location. We could not assess the free wifi mentioned either in room or at lobby. The television was not in good condition. The hotel pool - average. Not sure will come back here again..

The hotel is situated quite close to the centre and walking to the shops and restaurants is easy enough. The rooms are well appointed and spacious with comfy beds but the service was poor and the food portions when they eventually arrived is enough for a child only. First they could not find my booking, then they had no Coke the ordered mushroom soup was out of stock but it took them 15 mins before they told us. We waited over half an hour for the meal and it was only just warm enough to eat. Then they brought salt when we asked for pepper and finally they did not have any ketchup either. Not the best way to advertise your hotel ??
