Tanjung Puteri Motel is a modest accommodation along the Tanjung Rhu area. It is in a charming location right by the sea, and perfect for travellers who want to chill and relax away from the crowd. The folks here are friendly and helpful but are otherwise happy to leave you to your own devices. There is a small half-salted pool to soak as the compound is by a rocky beach. We got a really good deal for our room on an OTA. There is hot and cold drinking dispenser, tv, and the internet is reliable. Rooms are not cleaned daily.

That said, the motel could do with more TLC. The paint on our room wall is peeling and the toilet air vent threw out balls of dust. Throughout our stay we also didn’t see any effort to clean their beach of the trash, which is a pity (granted the sea will throw back another pile at the next high tide). The shared kitchen area is also badly/not maintained.

Another note is that the beach is cut off from Tanjung Rhu main beaches except during low tide, so if you’re walking either time the tides well or take a ride back. Some eateries along the beach will be cut off, but you can always drive out or walk to nearby warungs (15-20min away) to get good local food.

So come stay here if you have the mindset for something fussfree, relaxing and affordable. My family definitely enjoyed our stay. Don’t come here expecting service and you’ll be alright.

I would say fall in love with this hidden and wonderful place. Just a small property located in front of Andaman Sea. It provides all basic amenities in room. Don't be surprise as this small motel also has swimming pool, playground area, beach, barbeque facilities and it was a such beautiful place. Suitable for all types of travelers either you are solo, couple, friends, family or company. It really good place for team building activity. About the food, do not worry, even this motel don't have its restaurant, you can go outside to buy foods. As it located at rural area , please bear in mind do not get shocked with the price as it too much cheap. And tasteful.

I absolutely adored this place! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, plus the motel is right on the beach with a swimming pool. There are fantastic local eateries nearby, though I suggest renting a scooter for convenience. And to top it off, I only paid £13 per night. It was such a fantastic experience that I ended up extending my stay to two weeks. It's the ideal spot for sunbathing and unwinding.
I'll be amazed if you can find anywhere as nice on the whole of Langkawi for this price!

The location here is wrong. Put the name in google maps for correct location.
Recommend to stay here if you have transport. Right on the beach great room for the price. Walk in for the best price. This is a true gem to have as a base to explore the north of the island.

To start with when I booked I was told no double rooms were available and I had to have a family room, when I arrived to place was deserted I was the only person there. They obviously say this to get the extra money they can charge for the family room, and then I was shown to a double room anyway! To start with I was greeted by a group of teenage boys about 5 or 6 of them all smoking with hardly any English at the loosely named reception. They could hardly speak English and I'm asking where their parents are blank looks. I asked who was the oldest and what age and was told 14. They finally grab a key and lead me to my room, a double not a family room! I try to close the curtains and the curtain rail falls down! I asked one of them where the owner is I want to speak to him and they look at me like they have no idea. I point to the curtian and they come in and try to jam it back into the wall, and as soon as I try to close the curtian it falls again. So the boy shrugs closes the curtians and jams it back up. All the net curtains are ripped and the room looks exactly like it was cleaned and made up by teenage boys. There was even an old stale cigarette sitting on the hand basin. Two of the boys then proceed to sit on the chairs out the front of my room and smoke. I'm standing there looking at the sea and one of them gets up and walks into my room! I follow him and he then walks out and sits back down at my window, four more of the boys join them so I shut myself in my room where they promptly peer at me through the gap in the curtians! So I go outside and try again. Where is the owner, blank looks, either you get the owner here or call me a taxi. Surprised looks. I preceded to pack my belongings back up and walk out the front with all my gear saying call me a taxi. By the third time I've asked I've found a map and it has the taxi number on it. I'm about to call a taxi myself when guy pulls up on a motor bike. The boss they say. You leaving he says. I tell him why. He asks me what I expected. Peace and quite, I don't feel safe with all these teenage boys staring at me and peering in my window invading my space, no security here! Ohhhh he says. What about the cancellation fee is his only come back. I will deal through who I booked with. He wants the fee now, I'm like this is ridiculous, I will call my own taxi and deal with who I booked through as soon as I get wifi. I lasted all of 30-60 minutes and picked a random hotel on the map just to get out of the place. It was plain scary and the scariest experince I've had and I've been travelling solo for 6 months in Asia so thats saying something. Do Not Book Here. The photos for advertising must have been taken a very long time ago, its totally run down and messy.

Good location for someone looking for isolated and quiet with budget price. Motel is facing the sea with rocky beach. Nice sunset view. Rooms are with basic items. Location a bit far from main road and town, if want to stay there do rent a motorcycle or car for easy to move to places to visit.

I stayed here for 2 weeks, and it was exactly what I wanted.

It is in an isolated part of the island, in the north, about 20-30 min drive away from all the crowds and malls of the south of the island. The beach on this side of the island is beautiful and almost empty. There are some water sports down at the main area of Tanjung Rhu beach, but it’s not too loud or bothersome. There is a very long stretch of beach there that you can walk along, although you’re not allowed to sit on a big stretch of it because the Four Seasons Resort has (illegally) claimed public beach as private land. But you can still walk along several km of beach. There is some garbage on the beach though, and more so in front of the motel, which was a downside. The water was somewhat muddy from the mangroves, but not dirty. And it would change color depending on the weather and time of day, sometimes looking clear blue-green, and other times a little grayer, but still gorgeous. This motel is right on the beach and there are fabulous sunsets each night. There are hammocks and chaise lounges on the grounds overlooking the ocean, too, which were lovely. It’s about a 15-20 min walk into a bit closer to the village, or up the beach, to find any restaurants. There’s a place with great fish and chips right on the beach. I saw some people try to walk along the beach at low tide, which would be a shortcut, but they had to turn around and I never tried because the river feeds into the ocean right by the property so you’d have to wade through waist high water.

However there’s a shared kitchen you can use, not the cleanest as it’s outdoor and you’re in a tropical place, but it works. There are a few smaller grocery stores and roadside shops you can buy basics and some fresh veggies, but the bigger fully stocked grocery stores are on the south side of the island in the duty free shopping mall area. A GrabCar costs around $5USD so it’s easy to get there. It would be ideal to have a car or motorbike, but i didn’t have either, and walking was okay for me as I like walking and don’t mind walking along the road.

Wifi was spotty. Sometimes it was sufficient, sometimes not at all, which was frustrating as I was there for two weeks resting and writing and wanted reliable internet. But it was fine overall.

This would be a great place to stay with kids. I saw many families there. Mostly Malay and some westerners too, like me. But mostly you’ll see Malay folks on holiday or living here on this side of the island.

There is free hot and cold drinking water, as much as you like, available 24/7.

Room was big and very comfortable. Big comfy bed with AC and fan. Hot water heater in the room, plus (instant) coffee and tea with creamer and sugar packets available.

The staff was all super kind and sweet, as well.

I would definitely recommend this place to folks wanting a quiet beachside stay on Langkawi!

We planned to stay here for only a few nights out of our 7 month trip, but those few nights quickly turned into 3 weeks. This motel truly turned into a second home for us. The location was amazing! Located right on the water and just a short walk away from Tanjung Rhu Beach (3rd photo) and the Black Sand Beach (2nd photo) - you can't beat it! Not to mention, the staff was incredibly friendly and so laid back. A few nights they had a big family barbecue and invited us to join.
We've been traveling for 3 months now and some of our best memories are at Tanjung Puteri. We spent half the time camping (campers can pitch their tents outside of the motel for 10 ringgit a night) and half the time in the motel. Both were absolutely fantastic! The facilities are great. There is a lounge/seating area overlooking the ocean (1st photo) and a straw roofed hut where they've hung hammocks for guests to lounge on while soaking in the sea breeze (we made great use of it!). There is also a bathroom and showers for the campers around the back of the building as well as a tiki-bar style outdoor kitchen for the campers and hotel guests to use. We spent a lot of time in that kitchen - cooking, sharing food, chatting and making lifelong friends. There is such a sense of community in this place - we didn't ever want to leave!
If you're ever in Langkawi, be sure to book here! You can't beat it.

Went to this motel on end of March 2013 with my family.

Pros:
- A very budget hotel to stay right beside the sea (although no sea view from the room)
- Very big and spacious family room (more than enough space even with 4 adults and a children)
- Relatively clean and big shower room with hot and cold shower
- Very reasonable priced vs size and amenities
- FREE WIFI connections available (weak inside our room which is furthest from the reception)
- Great scenery especially sunset view
- BBQ by the sea available
- Cold and hot water available from share water dispenser along the walkway
- Parking right beside your place of stay (<50m walk away from room)

Cons:
- Transport is a definite MUST HAVE. Located in the Northern west part of the island far off the main road with NO sightseeing spots around.
- Single storey motel so room a little hot in the afternoon (comfortable with AC turn on and no issue since we are out sightseeing during the afternooon)
- OFF the GPS and wrong location on Google Map (can contact me if you need actual location)

Note:
Having a rented car or motorbike is the best way to move around Langkawi especially with family. No public transport.

Summary:
The Pros outweigh the Cons and would still choose to stay there again so long the price remains. Good place to stay with family so long it is only used as a shelter over our head only.

So lets start with the downside; this is not a luxury hotel, it is pretty basic. However, it is directly on a beautiful and deserted beach, I walked as far up as it is possible to go (aprox 3 km up the beach past 4 seasons) and saw a total of 7 people on the beach. Most of the tourists stay in the south of the island and those at the 4 seasons never leave their closeted resort, I can't imagine that the beach ever gets busy, even in high season. The people who live nearby are very friendly and welcoming, it really is a little slice of tropical paradise.

Apart from the location the other great thing about this hotel are the staff who are super welcoming and friendly. They have provided a range of facilities that are really helpful such as sun loungers and hammocks overlooking the beach, an outside kitchen and a place for people to camp if they want. Although this is a hotel you do not need a car to access it but you will need the grab app as taxis are really expensive on the island. I like to walk though and was forever being stopped by locals offering me a lift. Most of the time I declined as I wanted to walk but the occasions when I accepted a lift, or used a grab, I had interesting conversations and learned a lot about local life. Education levels are very high in Malaysia and seemingly everybody speaks excellent English.

The duty free island is small so it is possible to use this beautiful beach as a base to visit the sites all over the island. For only 6% of the cost of staying at the four seasons you do not get luxury accommodation but you do get access to the same beach. You also get very helpful and obliging staff, a comfortable bed in a large clean room with en suite and air con. My room also had dual aspect windows overlooking the beach and it was possible to fully open all the windows to get a good blast of sea air and hear the waves. There are no luxury restaurants on site but there are a couple of local hang outs on the beach and some local restaurants in the nearby small town. If you are out and about during the day you can have your main meal there. If I were to return for a long relax and would be spending less time out and about, I would check which nearby hotels had decent restaurants as the local fare would get a bit tiring after a while. Either that or use the kitchen, then I could stay here for months on end, in a little piece of peaceful paradise.
