Detailed Reviews
I felt the need to leave a review ever since i left soluna quest house.
If like me you have never stayed in a hostel and didnt know what to expect from them, then soluna guest house with blow you away.
It is hidden away from the main hustle of the strip which makes it even more beautiful. As you enter the grounds of soluna you can clearly tell that alot of love and work has gone into making it into an oasis for its customers. With lots of tropical plants and flowers in the courtyard overlooking the fields with animals in, it creates a nirvana for travelers.
We had a room with out an ensuite, with shared showers. The rooms where
very clean and large with a fan ,each had a front balacony area with tables and chairs, which was a nice touch. The shared showers where very clean and didnt feel dirty at all ( there was also two lots of 3 shower rooms). The shops are a short walk away and the staff are lovely people.
All in all soluna guest house made my stay with my girlfriend a very memorible experience. I would recommened them to anyone.

Soluna was definitely the best place I stayed at during my time on Langkawi. I stayed in the dorm which was perfect. The beds were comfy with air con and fans in the room.
Only a 5/10 minute walk to the main street and beach. Here you have all you need with shops and restaurants as well as travel agents for any trips. Claudia and MK were so welcoming and helpful I couldn't of asked for more.
With cats to play with and cows to watch in the field opposite it was such a peaceful and relaxing place to stay.
Seriously good value for money and I would highly recommend to anyone.

I have been to Langkawi many times but it is the first time I have stayed here.
Quite, calm, peaceful, clean and affordable what more do you want/need. A short walk away from the hustle of Cenang you truly feel you have found a little Oasis.
The staff are friendly, knowledgable and willing to help. They make you feel at home and comfortable. There is a TV and somewhere to cool your drinks. Breakfast is served at a sensible time (9am - 1pm except Sundays as it is the owners/chefs day off! ) but if you want to be out and about before 9 and want some food there are places close by that serve western and local food.
The rooms are clean, tidy and the room had the BEST shower I have ever had the pleasure of using in any guesthouse I have stayed in :)
You look out over paddy fields and really get the feeling for the natural beauty of Langkawi.
I really look forward to coming back.
Thank you all for making our stay perfect.

We (family of 4) stayed here for over a week and had a lovely time. We checked out all of the local budget traveller places and this is by far the best (it's newish and clean, buildings and bedding) and it's good value too. (There are lots more guesthouses near the Gecko but this other area feels over-crowded and very noisy by comparison.) Soluna is surrounded by coconut trees, fields and locals houses and has peaceful panoramic views. It's only a 5 minute stroll into town, but if you prefer to hear the croak of frogs and birdlife to scooters and rowdy voices, then this place is for you.
BTW: The breakfast is good and better value than what you'll find in town, they don't serve it on Sundays but they'll make you a brew (we all need a day off).
Langkawi itself is heavily commercialized (not in a nice way)in the main road area along Pantai Cenang especially and this guesthouse is a pleasant contrast to all this. Here and the bars and food at Babylon in town are the best spots without doubt.

Led by the cheap price and good reviews we thought to really find a hidden gem here. The place is very basic in the middle of a large construction area and not different from all the other budget choices in the 2nd or 3rd row in Langkawi. We moved out after one day and found places which were much more convenient for only a little more money. There was no breakfast because it was Sunday?? I suppose the good ratings are to show sympathy with the people running the place who are all very nice but the facilities itself incl. the shower, room and bed never deserve 4/5 stars.

Response from SolunaGuestHouse, Owner at Soluna Guest House
Responded 28 Apr 2013
Dear Simon, Let me first apologize that your stay was not up to your expectations. I would just like to clarify to all readers and future guests at Soluna Guest House that there is no ongoing construction within the area except for a small guest house beeing build 500 meters away. we are not " in the middle of a large construction area"!! Secondly about the breakfast. the signboard at the reception clearly states that we serve breakfast every day from 9am to 1pm, except for sundays, which is my personal day off. The 4-5 star ratings given on tripadvisor are from guests who have fully experienced their stay with us over many days. it is unfair to judge our sincerity to provide all guests with a comfortable "kampung" (village) lifestyle. Lastly, we furnished all our rooms and dormitory with brand new matresses, fittings and large 5 inch shower heads in all bathrooms. we provide each room with large, thick cotton towels. Soluna Guest House will always welcome any comments from guests so we can further improve our services and hospitality to all new friends staying with us. Thank you very much, Soluna Guest House

Excellent accommodation - clean rooms and toilets, charming ambience of village life but yet within 5 minutes walking distance to popular cenang area. A homely atmosphere with great breakfast and value for money. Would recommend for travelers looking for a low budget but yet comfortable & clean accommodation.

We arrived in Langkawi a lot later than expected, exhausted, so we walked from the ferry port, not having booked anywhere, until we came across a hotel/guesthouse, which in the dark was pretty difficult. The following morning we headed off to find a taxi and made for Cenang beach. I had come across Soluna on the internet when I was searching for accomodation but had only written down the name and the resort, the taxi driver did not know it so we got dropped in the main street.Whilst we were having breakfast I noticed a poster for Soluna Guesthouse on the wall; it was fate!! I called to check they had room and got directions.
The walk seems quite far and you have to cross some sand ( the sand pit) but it's worth it!
The room was bright and very clean, with a choice of AC or fan, its own porch area to sit on but only cold water, which in the heat is actually lovely. The WIFI is reasonable and if there are any problems Claudia does all she can to fix it. Breakfast was not included but is very reasonably priced and Claudia cooks it to order perfectly! The communal seating area, complete with satelite TV could be larger and the sofas a bit more comfortable but it was well used by everyone.
The owners Claudia and Eddy have created a little haven away from the hustle bustle of the main street but within easy walking distance to everything.
We loved the chilled atmosphere and the great standard of room so much we stayed 15 nights.

I've stayed here once in 2013 and come back again few days ago with my children. It is even better than first time visit. We have enjoyed our stay here.
One feedback, I wish this place is a non smoking place. Cigarettes smokes from worker and guest sometimes are just irritating.

I’m proud of myself to book this place for my family vacation in Langkawi! This is an ideal place for relaxation and tranquility! Me and my wife r in love with Soluna guest house! When we plan for a vacation, the first thing we expect is to relax; Soluna is the perfect place for relaxing because of the fantastic ambience outside. Its like the place is designed in such away that ur mind and body compels u to relax and feel happy! However As a regular reviewer,i will give the pros and cons below:
Pros:
1. The reception staff Nadia, she is a wonderful lady! I had abit of hard time to find the place as it was night, when i approached her,she greeted me by my name, which was pretty impressive! All the way she was amazing!
2. The owner Claudia,an Italian lady with great taste and sense of perfection! Obviously Soluna is her mastermind and she did it perfectly! She is a hard working lady who taught me to be responsible.
3. The ambience of the outside! Amazingly relaxing place with lots nature aspects with fantastic sitting arrangements.
4. The cooking facility which gives a picnic feel!
Cons:
1. The aircon in the dormitory room. The rule of shutting down the aircon in the day time was unfriendly.
I will definitely come back to this place again and plan to stay more days.
Highly recommended!

The best thing about it:
++ The nice rooms.
Good:
+ prices are very fair!
+ Wifi included
+ very nice garden!
+ Claudia, the owner of the place, is a great host!
+ nice and clean rooms with good bed and everything you need.. in fact, at Soluna's we had the nicest room of our entire trip through Malaysia!
+ scooter rental directly at the guest house (good scooters with included insurance for good prices)
Bad:
- the street to the guest house is very sandy and hard to drive with a rental scooter. Especially at the gate of the guest house you should be very cautious in order to prevent falling over with the scooter.
- the place is hard to find at first
- at night the according paths to the place are also very dark without any street lamps or other significant lighting
Summed up:
Since 2014 it got every year a certificate of excellence by TripAdvisor.. do I need to say more? just do yourself a favor and go for it!! ;)
