When I booked on ------- the description of the hotel was that of a four star hotel in the centre of Kuah Town with a gym and spa... it sounded good. The holiday I wanted was a lazy one - not the traveller type to which I am normally accustomed.

To the surprise of my travelling companion and myself - there was no porter in sight, we were given a double room not a twin, and the sea view room overlooked the mudflats.. We managed to change our room to the non-sea view which had spectacular views of the harbour, islands beyond and the mountains. Both rooms were incredibly spartan with only two small bath towels (no hand towels) and no shower curtain.

However, on the first evening we had an amazing feast - a steam boat for RM15 each (GBP2 or AUD6) which took us 1.5 hours to eat - it was fantastic!!

The clientele are 99% Malaysians, Chinese or Muslim so if you want to wear a bikini by the pool be aware that you might just have an audience. Breakfast is Malaysian style also.

So... it is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel, possibly bordering on a 2.5/3 star. There is no Gym or spa and the pool is quite small. If you want a truly "local" experience and holiday like a native... this is the place for the upmarket budget traveller - however, I would suggest that you will be extremely disappointed if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the tropics and book at this hotel.

I booked the rooms through Booking.com online. On 27 December 2013, Rooms were not ready when we checked in. Front Desk a total disappointment making us wait while they go about talking with their colleagues on some accounting matters. We decided to have lunch in the Cafe Sri Dayang while room cleaning in progress. Room 622 condition is very dllapidated , window lock is broken, key energiser fell off when we insert our room key. The shower controller and basin stopper controller are broken. There was no hot water flowing from the tap at all !!! Bathtub is dirty ,i felt so disgusted to take a bath !! Housekeeping did not do a proper job, they did dry cleaning during our stay. There is no consistency in housekeeping standards, first day we had 2 complimentary bottle water, but second day was just 2 miserable cup water.!!! Breakfast food has no quality . I am totally amazed how did this hotel survived with a Grand Continental standards. It was very very disappointing stay for us. !!! Nevertheless, coffee house lunch was great and the service staff were great !!!

Stay there for business meeting - booked triple sharing rooms. Comfortable rooms. Door locked are outdated- still using key to open the door. Delicious food - breakfast, lunch, dinner. Staff are friendly.

Overall, the hotel is okay.

I regularly visit this hotel. Compare to the others hotel price range, I prefer to choose Grand Continental because we know it's used to be 4 star hotel range.

Facilities still there even it's old. Room size u can't change, it's mean it's bigger than the rest 3 star hotel can provide. I believe already spend more than 10 nights. The team member from fo to eng know me and my wife. The is no problem to have your preferred make up room time, or extra amenities (towel, pillow,or mineral water). Just be polite when communicate with the team member, they sure will treat us as a guest in a proper manner.

Yes I do have some challenges before, but after sometimes, they know what I need as a guest in their hotel, they appreciate me. It's my second home.

Thanks to Puan Ayu for a good room arrangement Everytime I arrive.

See you all soon.

Very old hotel. Checked in at 3 although we could have checked in at noon and the room still wasn't ready. There was hair in my "clean" sink and shower...
Nothing looked like the pictures, and the pool area sucked.
Breakfast wasn't all good either!
