The air conditioning borders between stuffy room temperature on one end and not so cold and noisy on the other; indications that the system needs servicing. They still maintain the furniture from its early days, scratches and all.
For a 4* hotel, it would not hurt if they could supply 4 pillows instead of 2 in each room.
Location wise, its quite a walking distance to the market (about 500m), the old palace, museums and central mosque near which is the famed White House cafe. Less than 200m from the hotel is Wau Cafe (decent selection with nice ambience) and Restoran Hj Ismail Sumatera for popular local lunch.
On the upside, its beside the wide silt tainted river where one could take a stroll or jog along the bank. There is no ferry or boat rides though, not like in Kuching Sarawak. Not much if view on the other side of the bank.
We were assigned to a spoilt room (Housekeeping & Res team - how did this happen!?) It was creepy & eerie in the corridor and that spoilt room had a doorbell ringing on its own, non-stop! Electricity didn’t work either when we slot the card in.
After calling & waiting for 15 mins, FO team came and brought us to another room. I had asked for an upgrade for the trouble and seeing as the occupancy was low, but she didn’t accommodate.
Unfortunately when we got to the room, it was extremely old and poorly maintained - yellow stains in the bathtub & black stains inside the toilet bowl. Kettle didn’t seem clean inside. Two plug points were not working.
Strangely, no toothbrush & toothpaste (the most important!) were not provided, BUT other amenities like shower gel, shampoo & lotion were. Did they miss it out?
Good points were: Riverview from the room was glorious, F&B were decently good, staff were pleasant & hospitable.
Was give a 704 and 703 super dirty room, spoiled bed.. dusty and don’t think it was sanitised..Hotel refused to refund and has been assigned to a diffrent room 1011 and 1012 almost same condition but still able to sleep.. bottom line why give us such bad room where you have other good room at the 1st place!
Btw i left the clorox bottle in case the hotel needs to clean the other bathroom. A piece of advice, please supply clorox and clorox spray to your housekeeping team. With these 2 you do not need to 'scrub' the toilet bowls.
Unstable wifi connection.
Flat pillow.
Dripping taps.
English is widely spoken here and they seem to understand the needs of a business traveller. Firdaus from the Reception is particularly helpful when I requested a late check-out.
There is a roadside eatery to the left of the hotel if you would like to sample the local food. Again, 10/10 for the fantastic service there - food served an infectious smile. :D
