This is one of the 2 hotels in Kota Bharu city center that you can stay at if you wish to have a good view of Kelantan River (the other one is the much more expensive Grand Riverview). It is smacked right next to the Tambatan Diraja (Royal Jetty?) which is a wonderful structure to behold, especially the tower. The hotel occupies the ground to the fifth floors while the upper floors are part of the Pelangi Mall Condominium. Surrounding is very clean, and quiet (were it not for noisy teenagers frequented the riverfront at night, but then again where else do they look for entertainment in this sleepy town).
This is a very simple hotel, from the reception room right to the bathroom toiletries. Staff are courteous and helpful. There are 3 entrances all together, and 4 lifts I believe. Lifts are small but working just fine. They have nice pictures of the old and new places of interest in Kelantan in the hallway. Each floor has a common living room with sofa and large mirrors. The deluxe room that I stayed in is a bit too cramp, with creaky bed and slumping mattress. Bed sheet/ cover are not changed if you stayed for multiple nights, and bathroom mat is only available upon request. The aircond is positioned to blow at your feet when you are lying in bed, and in the extreme heat of Kota Bharu, may not be cold enough. The small 24 inches tv is fixed high up on the wall so much that it gave me a stiff neck. The room is furnished with a wooden stool, a writing table, wardrobe, a minibar and a nightstand. Coffee and tea along with an electric jug are also provided for guest's convenience. But the most disappointing thing about the rooms is it is not sound proof at all- you can basically hear the conversation and the activities next door when you are in your room or walking to your room!
Perhaps the only remarkable thing about the room is the big bathroom, and the breathtaking view of Kelantan River. And I must say, the breakfast (especially the fried bihun) served at the Shark Lounge on ground floor was finger licking good.
I don't know, there are not that many choices of good hotels in Kota Bharu. But in the end, I believe you get what you paid for. I paid RM120 per night for the room (include breakfast), and it felt like RM120 per night accommodation.

We stayed for two night with 2 check-in, thus 2 different rooms. The cheapest room has no window. Basically, a bit small, the mirror is placed at a cramped area of the room, next to the bathroom, not well sound treated as we can hears others from the next room. Room 1 was a bit smelly (undefined). Room 2 is slightly better though.

The parking lot is limited for hotel guest. We have to park a bit farther, but i believed it was safe as it was near a police post.

Breakfast is good, not a lot of choices, however it was nice.

Overall, this hotel is worth the value and i may stay here again.

I stayed here for one night after a trip to the Perhentian Islands. It was an internal room with no windows and was dirty. There were marks all down the walls, including makeup, mould in the bathroom, rusty bin, dirty mirrors and ants everywhere. The cups and saucers were dirty with tea stains on them although the receptionist did change them promptly when it was pointed out to her.
The breakfast comprised of curry, rice, noodles and toast: the chicken curry was very tasty and moist. The location was good, not far to walk to the market (well worth a visit) but I wouldn't stay here again.

We were happy enough here for two nights. The hotel is well located to walk into the centre of Kota Bharu and its various attractions. The room is not large although the AC and hot water worked and an OK night's sleep was had. The food provided by the restaurant was adequate although it is necessary to get into breakfast early or items begin to run out.

We booked a family room during a peak holiday season when the hotel was fully booked. Check in was smooth and in order. Upon getting the magnetic card key to the room the peculiarity begin. First the key had to be activated daily and we had to collect the breakfast coupon daily. We were also given a voucher for parking (not free but discounted). We were also given complimentary drinks but the cafe was only opened from 6 pm.

As other travelers have said the reception and the lifts to the rooms are using different entrances. Makes me very suspicious that the hotel was actually built in a shop lot not designed for a hotel. The room confirmed my suspicion. We were told that the family room did not have a view of the river but I really did not expect a room with no windows at all.

The room had two single beds in one room which was equipped with a wall air conditioner. It was fully carpeted. The other adjoining room had no air conditioning but an exhaust fan and a stand fan. And the door to the adjoining room was small, just slightly wider than my shoulders, it looks as it the door was hacked through the wall. There was no central air conditioning. The bed was hard.

The one and only closet (for a family room) had no hangers. We were given only two towels. Each room had its own TV though. The bathroom was very very basic.

Breakfast was OK with minimal selection. The drinks were too sweet. The first day spoons were provided to scoop the butter and jam. Perhaps suitable for a student hostel but not for a hotel.

We had no problems with the service. A request for room cleaning and extra toiletries were quickly attended to. However another peculiarity in that I do not see them vacuuming the carpets in the room in the 4 days I stayed there. They used a broom to sweep any obvious litter on the floor. No wonder the room felt so stuffy and dusty.

We did not use the parking voucher. We were lucky to be able to find a parking spot in front and sometimes behind the hotel.

I would look elsewhere if one intends to find a family room. It can get depressing and so disoriented staying in a room with no windows, poor ventilation and kids running around.

The other thing I wish to add is the hotel provided FREE internet wifi access which is rather good as other bigger, more expensive, more popular hotels in Malaysia do not provide free complimentary internet access. The speed may not be super fast (0.5 mbps) but it's good enough for browsing and stable too. The hotel deserves credit for providing this service.

Last visited Ridel Hotel in 2013.

Check in was easy. The staff was pleasant.

Room appear rather old. Stay the 3 of us. Parking as usual was difficult as no hotel parking.

Location is good. Stayed on the 5th flr overlooking the town centre - can see the istana & town.

The hotel has a restaurant - restauran hj loh (a chinese muslim restaurant). In particular we liked the dim sum which is considered cheap at rm3.90 (3 pcs) per small basket it was tasty.

Checking out was also fast.

The Ridel was on the river as advertised. The Delux room was adequat. I found this hotel to cater to Malaysians exclusively There was only 1 person there a manager, Danny who spoke any English, he was very helpful. The rest of the staff seemed to be very hesitant to interact with me at all. The Buffet breakfast was one of the worst I have had anywhere, very little choice, I had to ask them to fry me a couple of eggs, only Malay food on offer and very white bread, luke warm tea and coffee.
I did however, thanks to Danny have a very nice Christmas Lunch at another Hotel, where the staff were very friendly and eager to speak. The evening before I bacame lost and wandered into another hotel where they also spoke English and were very accommodating, ordering me a taxi and chatting to me while I waited. I think it may be worth the extra $ to stay at one of the better hotels.

It is a nice hotel, quite new i think, so the interior is nice and clean. I stayed in Deluxe Double room at RM110 pn, at the highest floor of the Hotel. The room got everything, from fridge to iron and Astro channel.

It is quite comfortable and food stall is very near. Though attraction like Pasar Khadijah is quite a distant to walk, if drive should be less than 5 min.

There are generally the usual side parking bays available. And it's next to a shopping center which should have parking. Finally, I think there's also parking available for any types of bikes all around.
