Dated, poor sound proofing, and low maintenance! This hotel used to be a very nice 5 star hotel in Kota Bharu during 2000s. So sad to see its current state. Check in: The process was smooth as I arrived during non-peak hours. Room condition: bed sheet was yellowish, room lighting was dim and one of the lamps was out of order. Restroom: I guess those towels have not been replaced for many years.

Spacious and comfortable room for family. The hotel also located in town area beside Billion. Tasty breakfast to enjoy. They also provided many choices. Staffs also friendly. My problem here was the lighting issue since they only use bed lamp. The toilet also need to improve since water gathers in one place and made it smelly. There was also weird smell like poop in corridor throughout the night. Overall worth place to stay in Kota Bharu.

Well it’s a old building estimated around 20 years, it’s time that the new management look into rebranding their rooms and public area - having said it’s my own experience here having spending a night in this hotel that comes with breakfast. 1) Check in & out front desk, room service & maintenance team were super friendly. 2) Room overall are spacious, bed were comfortable as I need soft hard mattress, shot shower water were great & the room AC were cooling. What’s need to look into are: 1) The main door was faulty where the alignment between door & frame hence it’s difficult to open and close the door causing the handle to give way having to get the maintenance to come to fix it otherwise will be locked in. 3) On the dinning area floor which is uneven that potential cause tripping on the roll carpet that is come off or taken out to lay extensions cables. Lastly as a new comer, switching on the lights in the room will need some good eye sight especially if one checked in during the night - the light control system is located at the bedside console with multiple press buttons which one is not familiar with lucky to our mobile touch light……

I stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights and the experiences was mixed. The first night the airconditioner is not working. The room deco was outdated and the toilet was dirty. The sink was not properly clean so do the shower area. This hotel used to be one of the best hotel in Kota Bharu and hopefully the management need to spend more to refurbish the hotel to its former glory. One thing that i like about this hotel was the swimmming pool. Its big and clean.

Stayed 1 night 25-26 Dec 2021. Room 1807 Junior Suite. Stayed with our baby girl there request non smoking room. The room was great, spacious, everything was excellent pertaining to the room. However, during the morning breakfast, this is when the experience started to sour down. Went downstairs to have our breakfast that was already included with the room. The restaurant was packed, no social distancing or any SOP percautions were taken. The restaurant was full with OUTSIDE GUESTS that were there for the hotel promotional Semutar & Sarong breakfast discounted price. We asked the F&B staff there if they could seated us, but we had to wait. Mind you that, during the morning, other restaurant and the lounge in the hotel were still closed. The OUTSIDE GUESTS were still pouring in the restaurant. We had enough of waiting and decided to order room service that WE HAD TO PAY instead of enjoying our included breakfast in the restaurant. Hotel Management should prioritize IN-HOUSE GUESTS instead of just accepting OUTSIDE GUESTS into the restaurant. I had never experienced this kind of situation before at a hotel breakfast buffet. Will not consider Grand Renai anymore in the future for any staycation in Kota Bharu. Other than that, our stay was great. Check in check out was ok. The burnt cheesecake at the lounge was amazing. We order a lot from room service too, eggs benedict should use English muffin and not normal bread buns. Had dim sum at the chinese restaurant and they were okay. The smoked duck was tasty. Booked for my family and they are very happy with the rooms as the rooms look better than be website. Both rooms are very well kept and clean. Friendly and helpful staff as well as a very reasonable price for what we get. Very recommended.

It used to run under the Renaissance franchise and tipped as the only 5-star hotel in town. Hence locals called it Renai. Now it’s operating under that very name, having severed the operating contract with Marriott Hotel group (owner of the Renaissance franchise). Nothings changed save for the service. It no longer is run as a 5-star. But the rooms are still above 4-star. Kota Bharu being a food haven, guests dont eat at the hotel restaurant outlets except for the limited buffet breakfast. The other hotel is more centrally located but this Renai offers better value (in my opinion). Youre better off booking from the hotel website than the likes of Agoda (unless you are redeeming points). If you are looking for a true 5 star hotel in Kota Bharu, theres none. This is the closest you get. …

Being a regular guest to this hotel with bi-monthly record stay on personal course, I never feel there’s element of appreciation/recognition this hotel ever extended for a loyalist like myself. With just a decent hotel quality and biggest room of improvement on customer service level I was made to understand that my reservation was expired a day earlier (still charged for no show) upon checking-in & admittedly to continue staying on the 2nd night given the bill had been fully paid. However, what really traumatized me was that nobody from the hotel called and reminded me just like how other hotel booking websites do to most of us either via auto-email or SMS. When asking this from front office agent this person kept saying “memang kita tak ada bagitahu (we never provide such info or reminder) as if we as a customer has to be god to know this in past life and be liable when this kind of issue arises. And it really got into my nerve when this unpleasant front office again started to raise voice defensively to reaffirm the fact that it was not hotel’s fault but the customer. It mimicked exactly just like a properly attired but with zero tolerance and courtesy of loan-shark officer threatening you with no available choices. In short, let’s go back to traditional way of booking this hotel via Agoda, hotels.com or booking.com whenever you feel your stay is well taken care of & be ready to accept discounted customer service quality. …

Just a single night whilst touring from Penang to KL the long way around as it were. Only used the restaurant for breakfast, no issues. Rooms good sized and clean, staff pleasant and ample parking outside for our bikes.

This is the first time I went to KB for pleasure, not work. Everyone recommended to stay here. It was easy to see why, it is good; clean and comfortable. A well-managed old hotel with extension to shopping mall which is a plus. The price range was a bit on the high side but the rooms make up for it in space and overall efficiency/cleanliness - I mean, I can't remember when was the last time I'm in a hotel where the nightstand button is working.
