Note that the description at the start of Tripadvisor is outdated. There are new owners and the resort has been relocated. Now for the review... the cabin was comfortable, very clean and had everything you needed, but without all the things which you don’t need (clutter nick knacks etc). The gardens are beautiful with a good array of birds. The best part for us was the village. The locals (contrary to previous reviews) were extremely friendly. As a conservatively dressed western couple we felt very comfortable and were welcomed into local eating houses. We spent three days wandering around and found the atmosphere charming. Most authentic experience we have had in West Malaysia. The ‘resort’ itself has about 6 units, we were the only guests. The family and staff made us feel very welcome without being suffocating. We are at local stalls (although a challenge for vegans) and caught a Grab back into town for an Indian feed at the one and only Indian restaurant. Can highly recommend staying at Pasir Belanda. The only recommendation I could make is that I think it would be nice to include breakfast in the room rate (as it isn’t super cheap).…
Notice: Pasir Belanda moved in December 2018 to a different kampung. The new owners are very sweet people and give you fruit from their own beautiful garden. Mustafa is such a kind man! The little houses are cute and clean. However, at the moment we were there (September 2019) the houses were still reconstructed (moved and rebuilt) and we were the only guests. There is no swimming pool. The surroundings of Pasir Belanda are a bit depressing. A lot of garbage on the streets and nice houses go side by side. It is difficult to find a place were you can eat (safely), but you can also eat at Pasir Belanda. No alcohol is served. Only one place (take a Grab) in Khotu Baru (Restauran Golden City) where you can eat recognizable food and drink a beer. As a western woman I did not feel comfortable in/around Kotu Bahru. People are strictly Muslim and are not used to Western women and the way they look/dress. Pasir Belanda is a good place to stay when you travel in a group and do activities together. Pasir Belanda has been in the hands of a new owner since the beginning of 2019. They have moved the existing wooden houses to the new location. At the time we were there, four cottages were ready and the other were under construction. The atmosphere is fantastic if you like peace. The owners are super friendly and helpful. You can rent bicycles to discover the area. We bought the boattickets for the ferry to the Perhantian. Too bad there is no swimming pool, but otherwise, a fantastic place to relax.
We (family of four) spent a few days here between Taman Negara and the Perhentian islands. It is a perfect place to unwind for a couple of days, but perhaps no more. The chalets are not huge but pleasant and clean. Harry and the staff at reception are extremely kind. We recommend doing the bicycle trip to explore the surrounding countryside. We also really enjoyed the cooking and batik classes. The cooking class takes place at the nearby house with a member of staff and her mother - it was very interesting to spend time with such lovely people. The wifi works well and the laundry service was quick and of good quality. The place seems to be very popular with Dutch tourists - don't think we met any other nationality while we were there. The dinner offered at a neighbour 's house is simple and of good quality but not abundant. Breakfast is fine, though again rather on the spartan side. The coffee (granulated) was not great. Perhaps it would be worth investing in a real coffee machine and preparing a bit more for guests to eat at dinner (and breakfast). But it was a lovely restful few days.…
Cosy and peaceful place run by a Dutch couple. Nearby from the airport and the make delicious home made bread! It's a good place for retreat or city getaway. Provides various activities like cooking lesson, cycling tour, etc. Super friendly owner. Strongly recommended!
Pasir Belanda Resort is located beside a small river between Kota Bharu and the beach area. Pleasant welcome by young Malay woman who provided lots of information. We could park our car on the property. Pretty yard with the main house, reception chalet and a few rental chalets of varying size. We had #2 a superior chalet which included (up three stairs) a nice veranda with table and chairs. The room is average size with simple furnishings and decor. The bathroom is also average but functional. Only a bathmat and 2 thin bath towels supplied but when requested I did get hand towels from the check-in lady. The room has a small fridge, small TV, kettle and coffee making supplies. Hand soap and shampoo are wall mounted in the shower area. The room is well lit and has a fan and AC unit. Only 2 hangers in the small closet area...sheesh. There is a small infinity pool infront of the owners house that guests can use from 9-1 and 2 to 6:30; pool towels available from reception - it's quite pleasant with a lovely view over the river in both directions. Also a deck where guests can have breakfast (8:30-9:30) if desired (18 MR pp). The property location is rural but still many other homes around so the little road has quite a bit of car and motorcycle traffic. Chalets 1 and 2 have the road directly behind the units so can be quite noisy at times. There are not many conveniences located nearby - we were happy to have a car while here. Had a pretty good sleep through the night followed by early morning call to prayer, then the local traffic starts. House keeping only makes the bed, replenishes the coffee station and sweeps the floor - no towels changed which I found disappointing for the quite expensive charge per night price tag. The offered dinner at the neighbours provided excellent food with an odd reception. The 'western' breakfast at the resort was good with the home made bread being the highlight, and a nice change from the Malay breakfast.…
Pasir Belander is a nice place to absorb the atmosphere of rural Malaysia. It feels very authentic (better if there were chickens roaming around) and brings you back, mostly, to a rapidly-disappearing Malaysia. The villas are small but comfortable. Reasonably authentic other than for the necessary A/C. Insect screens and fan could be helpful but they're not there so A/C it is. Pool is nice though it ca get a bit warm depending on the sun. Breakfast (optional) is simple but nice. There's dining options around but the meal offered next door is very good and reasonably priced for private dining. Don't expect anything but to be left totally alone to enjoy your meal. While cabins 1, 2 or 3 (the ones with the larger front decks) appear to be nicer, they back onto the lane and one hears quite a bit of traffic noise. Malaysia is rapidly motorising and unfortunately kampongs countrywide are now infested with cars and mopeds. No fault of the proprietors but the lane has become a thoroughfare.…
Pasir Belanda is a very nice accommodation: a kind of kampung within the kampung: the traditional Malay houses are comfortable and clean. Multiple activities are being organised like a Wonderfull batik-workshop. The swimming-pool offers is definitely a plus; the view over the river at breakfast (which was more than average) is stunning. Staff is extremely help-full and very kind: top ! We enjoyed a couple of times dinner - which is served by the neighbour: an absolute recommendation. The owners succeeded in making this place a real gate to the rest of our Malaysian-trip: although the place breaths a "Dutch"- atmosphere (the owners are Dutch, as most of the other tourists passing by), its a wonderful mix of Western and Malaysian elements. We actually experienced only 1 minus: by the late afternoon/evening we had a odour (from the neighbours' hens ??) that was not pleasant and prevented us to sit outside at our cabin... Overall: a great stay !…
We stayed 3 nights, did a bicycletour, 20 km, very nice. Houses are nice, clean, space enough, breakfast is perfect, view at river very good. You can take a boat for free to take a ride at this river. Monitor lizards are crossing this river. It's a diamond in the middle of a kampung. Swimmingpool is very nice and special, view at the river.
The accommodation is understandably basic but my girlfriend and I had one of the best nights sleep during our travels around Malaysia. The peaceful nature of the site is apparent immediately and Henry (one of the owners) epitomises the easy-going and relaxed feel. Everyone who we met from the staff to other guests were friendly and polite. Really nice place and couldn't speak any more highly as the owners were so accommodating when they found out my girlfriend had food poisoning before arriving. Lovely place with lovely people!
