Moonriver Lodge is a family owned farmstay nestled in a valley of the lush mountains of Sigar Highlands. We are located half an hour away from the hustle bustle of Cameron Highlands. This is a space where children can roam freely along the food garden paths, run through the food tunnel and play with Webby the duck or Zorro the cat. This is a space where nature lovers can watch hummingbirds and butterflies drinking nectar from the flowers and listen out for the distant call of the monkeys. Here at Moonriver Lodge, we provide not just a relaxing stay but also the opportunity to learn about nature and growing food and to participate in day-to-day farming activities. Go on a trek to see the second largest flower in the world - the magnificent Rafflesia Kerrii. Hop onto the back of our tractors and join a farm tour or participate in one of our fun gardening programmes to teach your children to how food is grown. Harvest fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs from our garden to prepare a healthy, organic meal. Whatever you do here at Moonriver Lodge, you are bound to leave our gates rejuvenated but with a heavy heart to part with a place you wish was your second home. Because that's what we try to provide - a comfortable, beautiful home.

This was my family’s second time at Moonriver because we enjoyed our first visit so much. On this visit, we had another family with us, so it was a total of 4 adults, 3 teens, and 3 children. Even though there was no wifi and accommodation was basic, our kids had a blast exploring nature, playing table tennis, splashing in the play pool, and enjoying board games. The kitchen was equipped so it was very convenient to prepare meals. We set up tents, but also booked rooms for the non-campers among us! What made the stay so special was the warm hospitality provided by Loida. She made sure we were comfortable and that everything was in place.

Nestled up in the mountains, Moonriver was the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. I was there as a WWOOF volunteer but also got the opportunity to rest and rejuvenate in the lodge's gardens and cozy rooms. The beds are clean and comfortable, and it gets nice and chilly at night for sleeping. I slept almost 9 hours a night! It was exactly what I needed. There's an extensive library to explore and nature walks you can take close to the property. It's also fascinating to visit the surrounding farm operation. The lodge is located on a much larger farm with greenhouses dotting the hillside as far as the eye can see. It is interesting to see it all happening, especially if you are curious about food production. There is an especially adorable nursery right next to the lodge, and you can book a farm tour to see the whole thing from top to bottom. This is the kind of place you visit and absorb. There is no cell reception or wifi at the lodge, so you start to notice other things. I made friends with a rabbit in the keyhole garden, and read about plants in the library. I would recommend Moonriver as an authentic farm stay for those okay with being off grid for a little while. I hope to come back one day!

On the positive side, the Lodge is secluded with a nice organic garden from which they farm and cook the food they serve. On the negative side: - Far from everything else - Shared baths and toilets - No means of activity or buying simple things - No phone signal or net to contact outside world - Expensive meals with no price listings If you do want to disconnect from the digital world and enjoy the solitude and very simple living, you may enjoy this place. For the price to be paid, I do not. Being 36km from the nearest town, this place is very unpractical in the matters of seeing the Cameron Highlands and partake in tours. The rooms are extremely simple and reminds me of a school field trip retreat or a fairly cheap hostel. Though rooms are private, baths and toilets are shared. During my stay there was no cleaning or servicing of my room. With such a secluded place I would have expected some trails or paths to walk or at least something to do. While the gardens and organic farming is nice, they are quickly covered. There is a tv, but otherwise no means to do anything but read a book or whatever you brought with you. There is no phone signal, 3G or wi-fi though advertised. Not a requirement, but just annoying having to walk 1km to get a phone signal to call a taxi for getting a pick-up. The lunch and dinner is prepared by whomever is there - not a cook. The food is okay and definitely not bad. But charging 35 RMY for a simple meal where you cannot select from a menu is not fair. Especially considering the nearest town would offer a similar meal for 10 RMY. It is a no thank you from my side.

We as a group of 3 female hikers stayed here for our Mount Yong Yap dayhike. The PIC, Suzi, has advised on the late check-in in advance & patiently answered all my queries. Waze gave a clear direction. However, there is no internet connection in that area, whilst a weak telephone signal is available at the guard post. No water supply on the first night, but it went alright on the 2nd day. Room was basic without air-conditioning, but overall it was clean and comfy. Small insects were inevitable as it's surrounded by nature. And do expect lots of mosquitoes. Staffs were all very friendly and hospitable. They cooked us a simple and yet hearty breakfast on the 2nd day. I accidentally locked my car from inside upon checkout with no authorized party to help me in that area but the PIC and the staff have all reached out to help me and even offered us a free lunch while we were waiting for family to come to rescue. Beautiful & environmental-friendly surrounding made possible by committed staff. As my partner said, they are committed more into maintaining the beauty & essence of the place rather than investing money into materialistic things to wow their guests. Group activities are available at a charge. Will come again! Special thanks to a staff name Mamaleh for taking great care of us during our stay.
