We were booked into regular poolside villa/room but once we got to it there was a lot wrong with it. Plumbing dodgy, TV didn’t work, generally just in a poor state of repair and generally old and tired
On complaining, we were upgraded without fuss or delay to a simply beautiful garden villa with private plunge pool, and that action alone should have guaranteed this place a better review.
Sadly too many other things let the place down. The service in the restaurant and room service is frankly awful, you could could go old and grey waiting for your food. And on the one occasion we ordered room service meal to be delivered to the poolside, which was all of 30 metres from the kitchen, it took over and hour to make that short journey and , when it came, was stone cold
I could forgive such stuff if the place was busy but it isn’t. It’s very quiet.
A saving grace is the superb swimming pool and it’s location right on the beach. Both are extremely inviting and we made use of these two facilities during our stay.
The breakfast, for which we paid an additional 30 MYR per person per day as we had booked room only, was a huge disappointment by international hotel standards. Low quality fayre and poorly presented, only the omelette station offered any positive comment to the breakfast experience.
This place has massive potential. It’s extremely photogenic given it’s location so shouldn’t be too hard to market it. It just lets itself down badly when you get here sadly. I really really wanted to like it and make the usual promises to return again and again, but the awful F&B experience really in my mind cancels out the good stuff……
They just need to work harder at anticipating customers needs and fulfilling them. Fast room service, better standard restaurant offering etc should be a given with this type of hotel
Beautiful classical styled chalets with clean & huge jacuzzi pool for all 20 of us...we stayed quiet as quiet as possible.Bathrooms are dated but have been reassured that it will be upgraded in the near future for our trip back.
Wide grounds and beach were well maintained with plenty of monsoon permissible activities. Revolving breakfast menus, delicious food Western and local cuisine allowed us to just lay by the infinity pool all day while the kids spent their energy at the super fun slides and water fountains.
Gloomy monsoon rains for couple of hours were made up by warm and courteous staff particularly Resort GM Siva, F&B manager Bob and staff Ridzuan, Adib and front office that went out of their way to attend to us. Kudos to them & will definitely be back!
The villas were spotlessly clean and the beds were comfortable.I thought the decor in the rooms was very pleasant and although the bathrooms were dated everything worked well. The rooms were separate which was great for us but could be problematic for those with younger kids. The private plunge pool/jacuzzi was really lovely and again very clean.
The main pool in Holiday Villas is brand new and absolutely fabulous. The sunbeds etc are also new and there is very relaxing. The swim up pool bar is also great and you can get a cold Tiger all day if you ask for a rather pricey 19RM.
The beach was beautiful but sandflies are a problem so you need to be prepared!
The only issue (which could easily be resolved) is the beach restaurant which again is a brand new building with lively views. The chef can cook(as demonstrated by some dishes at breakfast) and is a very lovely chap but there is a lack of options and is quite expensivw
The staff were attentive and not obstrusive. That made our stay all thr more memorable.
The poolside bar and the adjacent gym with seaview were my favourites.
Service was prompt and coirteous.
Went back again to stay on a work trip to Kemaman a week later.
Thank You LaVilla for giving my guests a memorable stay.
On a very busy Friday with a number of guests arriving for a wedding and various other functions, we were checked in promptly and courteously. We were returning to the Villa we loved 4 years earlier (Melaka Suite-great view of beach but could be an issue if function held in front of this room so please check before booking), and we have no complaints with the room. Minor problem with one of the aircons was seen to within minutes.
My wife also compliments the masseuse - was lovely and is recommended.
The staff were wonderful with special praise to Ummi, Ridzuan, and Eli at restaurant. Wonderful time.
However its a costly stay and we would expect the quality of food to be far better. Breakfast was extremely disappointing, and the Anniversary package candle lit dinner and brunch was very ordinary (to be polite and I appreciate that the staff may have meant well). Food standard needs to be improved. A friend joined us for dinner and had a steak that we thought, a bad cut from a road kill. If you present western food please have a chef who understands what to do. That said, both my Malaysian wife and I thought that the local Malaysian food was very poor and didn't do much to enhance the very well known and loved culinary experience of Malay food. We would both suggest that you travel up the road 4 kms or so and enjoy great food at Cherating Beach. Unfortunately though that's not what you should have to do when charged so much for the Eastern Pavilion. Please improve guys!
So in summary great staff, lovely room, but don't eat there (shame as it would be a winner with a good chef(s)
We asked when we booked if alcohol was served. But when we arrived, there's no alcohol in the restaurant, only in the 'fun pub' after 9pm. So no wine or beer with dinner.
Food: the food was awful. Garnish was browning, the burger patty was cheapest available and deep fried. French fries were so over fried that there was barely any potato. Or maybe it was just the quality of purchasing. We thought local food would be better, but it wasn't. It's a shame this hotel is happy to charge hotel prices for food but don't understand why hotel prices exist.
Event/Gawkers: there was an event on the garden in front of our room. Each time we walked past the group setting up the event, they would all stare.
There were 2 loud blasts and some smoke during this set up. When we called reception, they said it wasn't their event but the sales dept's event. The manager finally understood the concept that the event was on their property and we were renting a room on their property.
Spa: nice set up but indoor pool facilities not in use. Also strange to have hiv/AIDS warnings at a hotel spa. And ugly posters of health ailments. The massage was fine, but not value for money.
"Very little is open in Cherating from Monday to Wednesday. We stumbled across the Duyong (?) restaurant that did basic but decent Thai food by the river"Read full review
