I suppose it must be the economic climate as most hotels outside Kuala Lumpur seem to be time-locked in the 90s. Perhaps nostalgia makes them want to preserve the looks when they first opened decades back.

The Kuantan GC is no exception. Tight-knit carpet, 3’ beds (twins they call them here) instead of 4’ present day singles, shower in tub with plastic curtains (nope, not glass), and the bedside console (yep! They are still in use).

That said, there are rooms that have been refurbished to keep up with the times although they are fairly basic. Here, you still shower in the old tub but apart from shower hose, they have rain shower head and with glass partition.

Relative to similar-starred Kuantan hotels, the GC ranks better. The rooms are equipped with mini bar, drinks facilities, iron, hair dryer, even international socket (how thoughtful) near the desk.

Old it may be but it does the job if you are in Kuantan for a business. There are underground car park, valet parking and convenience shop. The Swan Chinese Restaurant is decent if you are hosting.

Breakfast offering is fairly basic (beware: no butter but only margarine). Frankly if one is willing to take a short drive or walk, there are nearby breakfast outlets that offer better bang for your bucks.

If you are not into hotel food, the Sara Thai across the road does decent Thai dinner fare for reasonable prices. There is also an all day dining “mamak” at the back of the hotel.

Verdict: GC does the job, especially for the price.

I check in in the march of june and this is my first hotel stay in kuantan. The hotel is centrally located in the heart of kuantan town. If you were to travel anywhere is easy. A walking distance of 3 minutes behind the hotel is a popular kopitiam call hai peng. The traditional breakfast like nasi lemak, half boil egg, kaya toast, curry laksa and cendol are nice. This hotel has a spa but its too small as the spa is withiut jacuzzi. Only sauna are available unless u r looking for a quikie job than it should be ok. One thing which is not good about this hotel is there didnt provide us the do not disturb tag where most of the hotel will provide for us to hang outside the door handle. So every morning you will get a discusting morning call from the room keeper to knock on your door between 8:20-8:40am and ask you do you need them to clean up the room. What the hell after a late night sleep last nite and wrre disturb again by this room keeper for straight 3 morning. This so call 3 star hotel management should wake up as we are living in the 21 century where a minor things like a do not disturb tag will help a lot.

Stayed in this hotel for the first time. I was told that the room
that I was checked in was newly refurbished room. Room was
clean and comfortable.

Access to rooms was secure as lifts requires your room access key-card.
Although it seems troublesome but its a welcome thing for a safe stay.

Hotel was friendly and courteous.

When arrived to the lobby there were already about 15 people demanding for their reserved rooms which the hotel did not have. The receptionist just told us that the hotel was overbooked like it was the customers fault. The incompetent staff had given all the rooms out despite reservations and then went to the back room to hide. Never seen anything like this. They did not come out even when new people arrived to the lobby and rang the bell. Terrible service. This is the lowest quality operation in Kuantan.

I'll give 6 stars if there is an option. I've stayed at the Hotel several times and we couldn't come up with a reason to choose another Hotel since Grand Continental is the BEST in town. I think the price is just nice compared to the services. And it's newly renovated so it's clean and comfy.
Good for couples and families.. Enjoy your stay! =)

I was surprise that this hotel has shown improvement after my last stay in 2011. Rooms were refurbished and service has improved during check in throughout my stay. I really enjoyed my stay there and the food was excellent as the staff at the cafe was so accommodating. I will surely return to the hotel during my next visit to KUANTAN. Anyone looking for a hotel in the city , i strongly recommend this hotel.

Slightly better than Seri Malaysia which was terrible. At least there is a flat screen tv and the aircon is strong. The pool is also larger than the Seri Malaysia. Pay up and go to the Zenith or Vistana, I wish I did.

We checked in o this Hotel on the 15th January 2015 to as this is one of the few hotels shortlisted by our company to hold their monthly trainings for this year. We did not make any reservation and just walked in to evaluate the Product & Service. We had no help from the bell service when we arrived and had to carry our own luggage to the counter. We had to wait a while as the staff was busy on the telephone although seeing us waiting. We asked for a good room and was recommended the Premier Room which was at RM 260 nett. The staff was not efficient in handling our check in as they never look at us in the eye. Anyway , we went up to our room but was rather disappointed as some of the lights were blown and found ants around the sink in the bathroom. We called for assistance but no one understood what we were saying.
We then decided to go down to request for assistance and told the receptionist that we wanted to see anyone to assist us around the hotel facilities. The receptionist told us that all the sales staff had gone home but the Manager on Duty is around. We requested to meet the Manager to discuss on our requirements. The staff called the Manager and to our surprise , we could hear the conversation that the Manager refused to meet us and said that she has no time to come down as she has " other better things to do ". We could hear her tell the staff to ask us to see the sales the next day. The receptionist was rather in a fix on what to tell us. The staff said that we should meet the sales but we said that we need to meet someone now. We then asked for the Manager on Duty's name and the staff advised that her name was Alicia Khor. What kind of Manager on Duty do you have that represents the hotel with a very unprofessional and poor hospitality service to potential customers. We insisted to meet her but the receptionist advised us that she is busy. In our company, this Manager would be sacked. Anyway, we checked out the hotel the next day without even having our breakfast and moved on to Vistana for our next inspection which was handled very professionally. Our Management has decided to support the Vistana from now onwards without second thoughts. Anyone deciding to utilize this Hotel for any of your company's event, just FORGET IT.

Hotel is near to malls and good eateries- Berjaya Mall is a short walk away and East Coast Mall less than 10 mins walk; Kemaman and Hai Peng kopitiams are about 5 mins walk, Swan Restaurant is round the corner and Sara Thai is across the road. Our twin room on the 10th floor, a non-smoking floor, was clean, quiet with comfortable beds, complimentary bottles of mineral water, newspapers and wi-fi. For the amount we were charged for the room, it was excellent value for money. The staff were also pleasant and friendly.
