Although the Dragon & Phoenix Hotel looks dated, the owner is making an effort to modernize the facilities. Just as we checked out, the signboards were being replaced with brand new ones. The shower in the room is new with powerful pumped jets.
The staff is friendly. One of them informed us that our car lights are left on so that we can turn it off. Room is spacious.
the furniture is very good, great bed, good shower, lots of hangers, a big window and enough space for a dance. a good lift helps with your luggage.
Internet was excellent, among the best we had. The only little drawback in the room is the lack of power plugs, had to use the TV one to charge my camera batteries and the phone.
Apart from that, the room service was perfect and the receptionists all knew good places to eat!
I found this hotel via this website thus want to share my hotel stay here. Initially I wanted to book a big room that can fit 5 adult but because it is long holiday, I only managed to book two standard room. It is a very old budget hotel that already been renovated. It is clean but those old piping still have some small leaking. It is good for a budget hotel and clean. The only thing I hate is that one of the room have smoke smell. I guess I check in the room too soon. Normally hotel will open up the door room for fresh air to come in. For those smoker in close door air-con room, they will know the smell. And to be fair, somehow, end of the day, only I alone complaining of the smoke smell. My parent-in-law, sis-in-law and wife said I am overreacting :)
Overall the hotel staff is very friendly and can recommend places to eat. The hotel is located at the town area. One hotel staff even go extra mile to open up a gated worker's parking lot for me to park my car :)
I have asked for hot water for making my baby milk. In the room have air con, small tv, hot water for bathing, some room have bath tub (clean one) and some just shower. By the way, on the night of my stay, all the hotel rooms is fully booked. If you need, you can google yellow pages for phone number of this hotel. Perhaps can ask receptionist if previous night is smoker staying in the room, if yes perhaps can ask them to get you another room :)
We had, overall, an ok experience staying in this hotel. On the plus side, the rooms are spacious. Beds are comfortable and the place reasonably clean, though not spotless. Bath towels are provided (though a bit thread-bare) and apparently changed everyday. The staff are friendly and try their best to be helpful. When we checked in one of the rooms smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and our request for a room change was met with cheerfully.
On the minus side, there are a few issues. The room is equipped minimally. Although the rooms we stayed in were en suite, some had baths and others just showers. There were no mini fridges. Drinking water is available for purchase from reception at RM1 per large bottle. There were no hair dryers available even for loan. One of the rooms we stayed in at a noisy aircon that kept its occupants awake. While the rooms have a tv, the only channels available were the terrestrial channels.
Worst of all, and this is no fault of the hotel, was the dreadful caterwauling that came from a karaoke bar about 200m away. So if you are staying here be sure to ask for a room that does not face front!
Given a choice I would rather not stay here although for a night's sleep it is adequate. However it is a budget hotel and advertised as such, and it was quite inexpensive.
I highly recommend this place, especially if you are looking for great value!
"Avoid rooms facing the road because of noise from a discotheque opposite the hotel throughout the night."Read full review
