Detailed Reviews
When you approach the hotel before you turn off the main road, it does not look promising but the resort is tucked away by itself in an unbeatable location. The location surrounded by immaculately maintained gardens, limestone cliffs and hot springs is very special, and makes this hotel unique (otherwise you could transplant the luxurious rooms, fancy restaurant and bars, and great service to any number of luxury beach resorts in South East Asia and probably not notice the difference).
The rooms are large and very well appointed. Every room has its own personal plunge pool and hot tub and this is another good reason to come and stay to escape and relax. Staff are friendly without being obtrusive, and senior management are ever present and keen to check that you are enjoying your stay.
We really hope to return some day and wish this resort continuing success. This is probably being overcritical but at this price point and knowing what it aspires to be, a little more attention to detail would be good. The spa menu offered to us on arrival was a bit tatty, and one morning at breakfast the apricot jam was mislabelled as kaya (coconut jam), and the soya milk and low fat milk was incorrectly labelled. Don't let that put you off, and the breakfast choices are very good!

You would have read the other review about what a great holiday place this is. I completely agree, there’s so much to do and I would go again. But, for me, this lovely place only highlights what’s wrong with Malaysian hospitality ...
One: The breakfast venue has 3 small pavilions outside the main dining area. When I arrived for breakfast, some guests had just left one of the pavilions. I asked the waiter if I could sit there. He said no, because it had been booked. During breakfast, I noticed that the pavillion remained unoccupied until the end of the breakfast period. I concluded that the waiter couldn’t be bothered clearing the table at the pavilion and setting it up for new guests. What shows a total lack of respect for guests is that the waiter obviously knew that I would soon also know this.
Two: The housekeeping staff, as they go about their work, going from one suite to another, make themselves heard. They’re laughing and joking and thus destroying the quietude and connection with nature which guests come here to enjoy. On-going training is required to ensure that staff work quietly and their presence not felt.
Three: On two occasions, I requested room service. On both times, the receptionist couldn’t get through to room service which meant I had to wait awhile before I could place my order. This is not acceptable for a resort pitched at this high price point. Instead, the receptionist should have taken my order and passed it on to the restaurant. That would have been my SOP if I owned the hotel.
In conclusion, it’s a wonderful place ... but let down because of Malaysian service.

Stayed the weekend here with my parents to celebrate my birthday at my hometown. Seamless check-in with welcome drinks and cold towel greeted us at the lobby. We were then ferried to our lovely villa on a buggy ride. The staff were courteous and friendly, taking time to ride slowly and providing us with a commentary of the resort’s features. Well planned resort that took great care in preserving all of its natural features including the natural hot springs with several dedicated pools with stunning scenes. Ours was Villa No. 24 surrounded by lush greenery and a small stream feature overlooking the caves. Upon entering, there was a thoughtful Happy Birthday deco on my bed spread with flowers. The Villa itself has two pools separated by a small wall, has an open air section inside and closed enclosure where the bedroom, wardrobe and bathroom are located. We were advised to close the bedroom door at night as there could be monkeys from the surrounding forests that may wander around. And so there’ll be tiger cushion dolls placed inside each villa as apparently it’s effective in scaring the monkeys. Frankly speaking I initially freaked out seeing the tiger on top of my wardrobe myself as it’s pretty huge! There were complimentary cakes and also Ipoh’s trademark pomelo fruit in the villa. Thoroughly enjoyed this stay, which was a splurge considering the cost but well worth spending at least once in a blue moon, it’s a very special stay that leaves you feeling blessed to have stayed there. Do check out the resort’s many walking trails and natural water features, waterfalls, pools and the most amazing Cave dining experience ever! Amazing staff, thank you and keep up the excellent work!

The resort itself is very scenic, surrounded by greenery.
The outdoor facilities are spectacular, the hotspring pools, the steam cave and the heated pool are incredible.
We were in the lake villa which is the entry level room but even that has a private plunge pool and hotspring tub.
The room itself is large, clean with high ceilings and a balcony that overlooks the lake.
There is a complimentary soft drink mini fridge and we were provided with a complimentary welcome sparkling drink.
The breakfast is al carte at Pomelo and was of very high quality. The fresh juice options are great as is the service there.
It appeared all the staff are debriefed of the days departures as they all were aware of our taxi pick up and where we were off to next which provided a level of reassurance.
We also dined at Pomelo where the service was attentive and the food was to a high standard.

Hard to think of any tbh.

Perhaps the gym could be better equipped.

Can’t wait to return. A truly stunning location on the outskirts of Ipoh Perak Malaysia a visit of 3 to 5 days is more than sufficient to enjoy the beautiful settings and facilities of the spa. The massage is 2nd to none I’ve ever experience and value for money superb especially with 5.5 ringgit to every £1. Hotspot, crystal caves, sauna caves, plunge, pools, swimming pools, jungle, walks, superb restaurants, and gobsmacking, beautiful accommodation with your own permanent, hot spring bath, and your own plunge pool within your room, overlooking the lake side, if you require to go to a restaurant or a different part of the enclosure call reception and order a buggy. They pick you up with minutes and deliver you safely to which ever part of the facility you wish to visit, the rooms are luxurious, toiletries, plentiful, fresh towels and fresh linen daily if required. Thank you for our wonderful stay and we hope to see you again in the future.

My husband and i travelled to banjaran hotsprings on saturday to tuesday (best decision ever since monday and tuesday were their quiet days). The resort had a very zen feel and we loved it. The whole resort is very lush with greenery so our walks were very enjoyable as well.
In my opinion, this was my best local trip since the whole pandemic happened. Firstly, there wasn't many people which is a real relief. The resort only has about 40 villas and even at full capacity, the resort will not feel like it's packed since the resort is huge! Buggy services are available if it rains or we don't feel like walking.
There are public hot springs but each villa also has their own tub with natural geothermal water.
All their caves are natural and they have made it comfortable for guests either with AC or a huge fan. We meditated everyday in the morning in their caves which is really rejuvenating.
My husband is a big fan of ice baths and they have one too! We could jump into the hotsprings then go into the ice bath or the other way around.
The staff were so friendly and attentive. We did not really leave the resort much during the 4 days because of that. Our minibar was refilled everyday and the kind staff sends us our grabfood everyday with cutleries and plates.
On monday, we decided to do the jungle walk and our guide gave us tickets to the lost world of tambun too. It was a treat to just do over and enjoy the park with animals! At the end of our trip to the park, we were picked up by the banjaran van so we dont need to walk back through the jungle.
Our long weekend at banjaran was truly memorable and we felt like new human beings when we left. We will be back again and we really thank banjaran hot springs for the excellent service and hospitality.

We visited The Banjaran Hotsprings in July. The garden villas are lovely with private swimming pool and hotsprings water jacuzzi. The spa and massages were good and included in the resident package, as well as breakfast and dinner. Be aware that food is really overpriced there and quality does not match the price tag. The main restaurant Pomelo serves standard blend food. The skybar is nothing of what they advertise, it is barely 10m from the ground and sells bad cocktails at 70RM/glass! We had dinner at Jeff's cellar, the dinner menu is at 675RM/pax (in our case 250RM upgrading our dinner package). This price is a scandal. I had foie gras (7cm*3cm piece!), then a tenderloin (10cm*5cm piece of meat!) with 1 tbsp of mashed potatoes, dessert was clearly not made at the restaurant (bought frozen?). At 675RM (drinks not included) this is a rip-off! I was extremely disappointed and upset. I would happily pay that price for an extraordinary dinner but this was really sad and bad.
In conclusion, yes the resort is very nice and the villas are great, but it is clearly let down by its kitchens and by the very poor quality of the food at a huge price tag. Pomelo is acceptable as prices are still bearable. Jeff's cellar is a pure scandal. Chef should be ashamed of serving this poor quality food. No passion and no love in his food, just sadness. If we return, we would not eat at any of the restaurants unless they upgrade and change the kitchen staff.

Dear SgSling, Thank you for sharing your experience and review in our Trip advisor page. We are glad that you had a great overall stay. On the other hand, we are truly sorry to hear about your unpleasant dining experience in Jeff’s Cellar. We need to clarify that RM675 is for a non in house guest full course meal where your package optional entitlement is for an upgrade to a Jeff’s Cellar 3 course meal while an in house guest a full course meal price is slightly lower. All meals are being made in house including dessert too. We could have been able to do some immediate recovery if this had been brought up to our attention while you were staying in house. We were also surprised as generally we do received good feed backs on our Jeff’s Cellar food , unfortunately not in your case. We value your feed back nevertheless and we will continue to strive for improvements for a better dining experience. Thank you. Best Regards, Raymond Koh Director of Operations

The Banjaran is possibly one of the best hotels we have stayed in. The facilities are excellent and the souroundings so beautiful, well maintained and offer so many unique features.
The room (lake villa) is well equiped including private hot tub and plunge pool, and very clean and well maintained.
The breakfast is very good with wide range to cater for every taste and the sky bar is a great place to chill and look over the beautiful grounds.
The staff are exceptional and are the ones that complete the whole experience as they are all so friendly and helpful.

We stayed for two nights in a new villa, which was almost perfect. Directly at the check in, every guest is asked to book dinner at Jeff's Cellar, to book treatments in the SPA or to book any activity you could imagine. All the upsell actives will go on until you have entered your room. Wine & Drink prices are overpriced, even for a 5 star resort. Food in restaurant is really tasteless. Only Dinner at Jeff's Cellar was really great and delicious. To put it not a nutshell: Nice villas, perfect location, resort is in a top shape, but there is always a commercial upsell atmosphere, which made our stay only average.

From the moment we parked the car in the secure car park to the moment we left we absolutely loved every second we spent in the Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat.
The scene was set when we literally banged the huge metal arrival gong before check in, which was also an informal breeze. We were welcomed with a refreshing soft drink and wet towel the formalities being done on an Ipad sitting on a luxury chair.
We booked the Garden Villa and the 2 night 3 day Celebration of Love package for my birthday. The package included two breakfasts and evening meals.
We were given the Retreat grand tour in a golf buggy where the driver pointed out the various venues within the grounds of the retreat. The steam cave, the crystal cave and the meditation area, the Pomelo restaurant and Jeff’s Cellar restaurant, swimming pool, ice cream tree etc, etc, etc before being shown around our villa.
The garden villa had its own very private ample sized swimming pool, private geothermal jacuzzi and wonderfully spacious accommodation. Everything from the provided toiletries to the bed sheets to the Nespresso machine was high end and worked exactly as it should.
The Pomelo restaurant, where you start the day with an amazing and varied breakfast menu, is staffed by polite, attentive, helpful and smiling staff for which nothing is too much trouble. Add to that the eerie and beautiful vista of the steaming geothermal hotsprings lake, the well kept trees and the quiet of it all allows for a very pleasant relaxing start to the day.
Our highlight was dinner at Jeff’s Cellar which is an unforgettable culinary adventure set in the most beautifully lit cave, where we were bathed in un intrusive classical opera. The added delight of a chocolate cake and birthday candle added to the celebration.
We have had the privilege of eating in many of the UK’s finest Michelin starred restaurants but the unpretentious Jeff’s Cave surpassed them all in ambience and what an adventure for the taste buds……quite extraordinary and particularly memorable.
Inviting as it was we didn’t go in the main swimming pool or try the hotspring dipping pools but we did dip our feet in the fish pool where the little fish tickle your feet as they clean them. We also visited the crystal cave where there are cushions to sit while you admire the crystals embedded in the walls while breathing in the pleasant aromas generated by the oil burner.
The highlight of the whole place was the friendly and helpful staff who make you feel quite special and for whom nothing was too much trouble. The peaceful nature of the place, natural architecture, water features, food quality and highly trained staff all contribute to a wonderful experience which we eagerly look forward to repeating.
In conclusion we cannot, absolutely cannot give this place enough praise. It exceeded our every expectation. We simply loved it.
