My friends and I had booked a total of 4 rooms and we chose this hotel due to its location right in the heart f Old Ipoh Town and pool. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived and was told that the pump in the pool was not working so it has become a big algae pond. Our room for 4 persons was a spacious loft with 2 levels, 2 aircons, adequate bathroom (only shower gel was provided) and it was clean but terribly noisy as it was facing a main road. At midnight, a car alarm went off for 20 minutes and the ear plugs provided by the hotel was of no help. Staff was friendly and personally showed us to our room and brought up a hair dryer. Pantry with free water refills, iron and ironing board was just opposite our room. Take note that only street parking is available.

I know this hotel before Ipoh become a famous travel place. Here is so special and quiet, their vibes is really good and this hotel become my bucket list. I randomly come Ipoh today and choose their dome room. At the first, I cannot find counter of hotel and it really not obvious and small. And this area got many stall and noisy, I really hate everyone like to OOTD at here. It is like a maze, you should use three card only can enter your room. Their facilities quite okay and their design is cool too. But I think they didn’t keep it clean, some bathroom place is dirty. Their concept and design is nice, location also great. But I don’t really recommend it.

The hotel is located right in the center of Ipoh's old town. This means that most attractions and good food are within walking distance. But boy, oh boy. The problems with this hotel are endless. First off, no parking provided. They would only give us free parking coupons for 2 days (as we booked for 2 nights). Then, we couldn't find the hotel lobby. There was no sign anywhere that indicated the hotel's whereabouts. We walked around Plan B for a good while before we gave up and called them to bring us to the lobby. We finally checked in. The room smelled musty. My pillow has got some stain. The walls were thin, we were the only guests at the Annex building so it should be quiet, but we could hear the commotion from downstairs and the staff working outside cleaning the pool. We noticed some things missing. No mineral water(!) and hairdryer provided. Not even a kettle to boil drinking water. I should stop here, future visitors should get the hint reading this review to stay away from this "NYT-featured hotel" if you can. At the price we paid, we could have gotten a much much better hotel. It was an experience, for sure. But probably not a good one.

I was visiting some friends in Ipoh and had to find a hotel for just one night. I looked up Lonely Planet and saw that they had marked Hotel Sekeping Kong Heng. I booked a room, but my experience was not good, I was very disappointed. First the Grab driver could not find the place. I had been given the old address which is in a small hidden alleyway. If I had been given the new address with is on Jalan Sultan Yusuff it would have been easier. The service was not very good. I was not given code for internet, which they have, and later the code did not work! When I should pay the card machine did not work. However, the worst was the style of the hotel. It is of course a question of taste, but it was for sure not my taste. The style is rough, uninviting and with no charm. It did not like the place and I can not recommend it.

Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel at all. Initially we chose the hotel because we heard about the uniqueness of Sekeping properties. On the outside, it was indeed unique but on the inside, it's a different story. We are perplexed about the whole hotel, homestay - whatever you want to call it. We booked a room for 4 pax in Annexe B - which was just right by the roadside although over the phone, the staff told my friend that the room is on the quieter. It was loud that one could hardly sleep. The room was dirty and dusty (maybe it's an old building). The amenities were minimal - thin toilet papers, some soap and nothing else. So please bring your full toiletries if you decide to stay here. No WiFi for us - not detectable by our phones. No problem, we used our phone data. We complained the next morning and was offered a room that is smaller and cost less than what we paid for which we rejected. Then we were offered a room for 2pax in an apartment building which we accepted because we think that was the best option we could have had and it was for one night. Room was not clean and shower was flooded because the hotel did not clean the strands of hair in the drain filter. It was late and we were pissed off at the hotel already so we unclogged the drain ourselves. We checked out and swore never to go back again.

We stayed there 2 nights over this last weekend. Main entrance to the property is pretty obscured, this coupled with No on site parking makes it inconvenient if travelling with small children and old people. The rooms lack basic amnesties bath soap!, coffee, tea, hand towels. They give you one half used hand wash soap from the 5 ringgit store! We got the twin King bedroom (4 o clock) and a single King (1 o clock) If you have small children and old people the twin is too dangerous! I had originally booked a single with instructions for an extra bed but got upgraded to the bigger room because they couldn't put an extra bed into the single King. The elevated bed is a constant nightmare if you are a parent with small active children. The drop from the top is at least 10 feet! With almost no safety bars! Everyone in the twin gets 1 pillow and 1 towel for the duration of the stay. NO housekeeping service. For the rates, im sorry in Ipoh one could do much better The rooms are Industrial designed so if you are into it great but you dont get it, the rooms can be a little daunting. Applaud the designers for all the recycled stuff in the rooms but some basic hotel necessities should have been addressed during construction. And speaking of construction there was construction going on upstairs and it was noisy! Im sorry but i think value wise one could do far better in Ipoh. On that note the uncle running the store downstairs was extremely nice! And the location is fantastic if you wanna eat your way thru Ipoh! But everything else about this property unfortunately not to our personal preference.

Sekeping Kong Heng is one of the string of Sekeping accommodations in Malaysia. This is a refurbished shophouse with many of the original features maintained but with mod cons put in I was initially a bit worried about the noise as was pointed out by quite a few reviewers. That is definitely a negative if you want a bit of piece and quiet. The plus side is that you walk down the stairs and land smack bang in the midst of a busy street. Lots of tourists lots of local food to eat. Plenty of options to explore on foot. There are 2 wings. The wing I stayed in (above the Kong Heng shop) is noisier. But it has a huge common area on top which has hammocks and chairs for you to lounge about it. The other wing has the tiny swimming pool which we can access from the street. About the rooms, a reviewer mentioned a huge step from the toilet to the room. Yes. It’s huge. Probably because as an old shophouse the piping has to be incorporated under the raised portion. But ya it could do with a step. It’s a bit of a bother to go to the toilet at night The flooring is old floor boards. I used to go to a school which had this type of wooden flooring. You walk and the floor creaks. You just get used to it. The room is clean. And comfortable. Don’t stay here expecting the mod cons of modern accommodations. Or complain about the lack of it. You can get that in every other hotel in town. Stay here for the experience. The charm of days gone by.

We had the family room for one weekend night for our yearly schoolmates getaway. Yes, we are aware of the centrality of this stay and some nice is expected as it is the happening area for food and a few worthy places of interests which are all within walking distance from this place. It's modern, charming & in all sense having it's own values for different age groups. Unless you are planning to party til wee hours of the night after coffee shops, swimming pool, stalls, shops & Plan B closes at 1 am, you will have no issue. During that particular weekend, we have a bunch of adrenaline high teenage boys across our wall-less room who screamed, shouted & splashed non-stop until we have to inform the guardians of the place at 10.30 pm. You will be awoken very early by the food preparations smell and sound downstairs. The shower room has no door and the toilet has holes to view the shower. So, that depends who you are going with and how open the whole troupe is on this open design. If you are planning for a quiet & relax time off, there are plenty of other options in Ipoh.
