Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Hotel is relatively clean for it's age. However, amenities is very basic. No face towels, basic toiletries, only 1 bottle of body wash and shampoo per room, does not have cups in toilets sink for toothbrush, etc. Breakfast was surprisingly not bad for the price of the room. Rather good spread. Wifi is definitely not high speed. In fact, I'm better off using my Digi 4G data. For those are driving, free multi level parking is provided. However, the turns can be extremely difficult for wider bodies vehicles.

opened in 1983 and as of 2023, when i wrote this review, the building has been around for 40 years. despite its age, it is still well-maintained, and the staff was very kind and helpful in showing us the local cuisine guide. the room was decent, nothing extraordinary, but there were plenty of toiletries, so all in all, i had a good stay.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and this hotel will be my first choice whenever I need to travel to Ipoh, whether for business or pleasure. The only reason to contribute to my choice is that the location of the hotel. It is perfectly located in the heart of the city, which is within walking distance to all the famous restaurants.
Frankly, this hotel is really outdated and in need of a serious facelift. I noticed that the check-in process is still quite manual, but quick. Had booked the superior room for 2 nights, the room size is adequate and acceptable for 2 people. The king-size bed is excellent and comfortable with lots of amenities that surprised me. The free Wi-Fi connection is not very strong and needs serious upgrading. Guest car park is located on 1-3 floors and requires excellent driving skills to get up to the car park as the winding way to the car park is very intimidating. Also, parking is very limited and you may have to fight for it at weekends.
Overall, the location of this hotel won my heart, until I forgave it for being outdated.

This four star hotel should be downgraded a few stars.
1) first bug bear on entering the room 815, was the stench of urine. There were no visible signs of urine stains, but I wonder if somebody has just mopped the floor with a urine stained mop. I washed the whole bathroom myself. I am not one to trouble the front desk if it is something I can handle myself.
The next day, my bathroom smelled ok. The day after that, it smelled of urine again, so I wondered if the bathroom is mopped every other day... wished they had left it alone. So it was another round of toilet washing for me.
2) the second bug bear was that somebody thought it was a brilliant company policy to blast loud music out of the corridor speakers positioned just outside the room doors.
As this was something I could not resolve myself I had to apologetically trouble the reception.
After some time, no action was taken so I called again ... and then again.
The sound was so loud I could not concentrate on my work. Nor could I get any rest.
Finally, a staff appeared at my door, and he he told me that nothing can be, as he does not know where the switch is for turning down or turning off the volume is, and the music is scheduled to go on till 11 pm!
The sound stopped for a while and I told him that it seemed that something had been done. He said that they were just in between changing CDs. I was thinking that they should not load the next CD if they don’t know where the switch is!
Sure enough, the music came back. As he couldn’t fix the problem, I asked to speak to his manager and asked that he call me, but as expected, nobody called.
The next morning, I went down to the front desk and spoke to a lady and she said that it was their company policy to play the music and the staff could not do anything about it.
Again, I asked to speak to the manager with a good mind to tell him how to manage a hotel! But he had not turned up for work yet and I had to go out
However, there is one waiter Bakiaraj who somewhat saved the face of the hotel. He was ever cheerful and helpful.

Dear Ms. Juliecjl, We hear your concerns and it has been directed to the proper channel. As for the operation hours of the Lobby Music, it has been a policy of the hotel to close within a stipulated time. Other 4 or 5 star hotels surrounding us also practices the same way. Between we did lower the volume as our concern to the guest. All our Manager report to work by 9 am including myself and did checked with my staff and heard that you've left early in the morning. I've stayed at the hotel on the 22nd jan till the 23rd 7th floor. The cleanliness of the room is not statisfied room is very dusty, non sound proof, i've asked the housekeeping girl which is a malay I would like to ask for things for my room , which she could not hear until I have to repeated my question to her many time which she could not here cause she was listening to earpod, when she could hear it, she answered very rudely and with no manners towards me as a staying guest, then i've asked for her name which is ain . overall my stay in the hotel was ok, during check in was in order , and the food wise is fine.

We stayed for a couple of nights. The shower was dirty with mood around the bottom of walls, we had ask for more toilet paper and towels and soap. Was a small room with a dirty window, not just on the outside but on inside. Staff were ok, but that friendly, almost got the impression they didn’t want to be there. The restaurant downstairs was nice for breakfast and the staff there were outstanding. Same about the rest.

Fast check in. We like the soft pillows, 2 per person, and retractable clothes line. Shower did not wet floor outside. Breakfast was ok. However we were surprised that boiled eggs (hard or soft) were not available. Hand towel not available even when asked for. Walking distance to 2 highly recommended restaurants: Ipoh Tuck Kee Restaurant and Yuk Sou Hin.

The room fixtures and furniture were old. The cupboard was old too. The bathroom fixtures and tiling are old too. The morning breakfast choices are limited and the papedum served was already not crispy. The food was oily with not much vegetables. The check in process was interrupted by a group of LEO club gang causing delayed check in.

This is the worst hotel that I have stayed in my life. Customer service is nonexistent. They are very proud to inform that : 1) the hotel is well-known of no/extremely poor wifi connection 2) live band drumming noise will be up to 2 am as we are in the middle of town 3) very rough toilet paper 4) Poor breakfast choices 5) no hand towel.
We can not relax with the noise and do any planning without wifi. This is a zero star hotel. Definitely not a 3 star as claimed by the website.

Yes, if it's too expensive, cancel your booking and book again. Unless u book those that cannot cancel during their offer period.
Anyway their breakfast is very lousy, no worth paying it if it doesn't come with the booking. U can always write in to enquire if your booking comes with free breakfast
There are more places to choose from in the Ipoh area.
