Well, if you believe in that sort of thing anyway... So I stayed here on the 17 Dec 2016. I was travelling with an entourage of about 50 people. I roomed in with my brother. Ipoh is a sleepy town. I almost can't see anybody walking around during the day. The hotel lobby looks new but either it is in the state of being renovated or closing down I'm not too sure because I see unfinished work at some parts of the hotel. The room itself is weird with tiles on the wall and a stark bathroom that has a bathtub and is not cosy at all. Room size is standard and has a musty feel to it. Overall, its just a place to rest and put our stuff for we would be out most of the time anyway. The room has a tv and fridge that don't work. I remember buying ice from the eatery nearby. The spooky part? Well, after the rooms were given out, my friend's little girl adamantly won't go into her hotel room (even though she was sharing with her parents) and pleaded for another room. My other friends exchange rooms. All of us went out after that and didn't return to our room till late around midnight. We all meet up at the restaurant across the street for breakfast the next day and exchange stories like "how was your sleep last night?" and "see or heard anything strange?" " were you disturbed in any way?" The 2 guys that took over the room had stories to tell. And so did others. But it's all in good fun. I'm not even sure the hotel provides breakfast and most likely will never find out.

My return to this hotel after last stay in 2014 saw its housekeeping sliding from above average to barely acceptable level. No doubt the hotel has aged a little since its last renovation a few years ago, I am referring to the essential supplies – bed sheets, towels, pillows, in particular – see the attached photograph. It is too me, and probably to many other customers, it is up most important for a star-rated (3-stars in this case?) to supply clean and reasonably new (rather than soiled) bed sheets and pillow cases as we rest our bodies for at least 8 hours in the hotel. It is such a pity as the hotel’s location can never be as strategic as now, ever since the stupid Malaysian govt policy to centralize express buses in a location that is more than 10km away from Ipoh Town, that that Hotel Lucky is situated next to Sir Maju Express Bus – which provides free two-way shutter bus service for visitors at hourly interval starting 9am till 5pm. For visitors to Ipoh to shop and enjoying good food around new and old part of Ipoh town, the hotel commands a very good location. Imagine one has to carry 8-10kg of Woh Kee coffee powder (and yes, those so-called popular brands are far more inferior in quality!), among other local products to the hotel, travel distance becomes critical. Likewise for travelers who intend to use Ipoh as a angling point to have short half-day trips to nearby towns like Bidor, Taiping and the Highland, all within 2-hour journey (one way), the hotel is perfect because the shutter service bus next door will bring them to the official express bus terminal. I can already see new players – smaller and newly renovated hotels come around in Lucky vicinity – just 200-300m away, such as W Hotel (the price seems a bit more – but the beds look better) and I hope the management will do something about the beddings and towels so that it can retain its return customers. For me, I will certainly give W Hotel a try in my next visit end of the year.

Stayed a night for MYR108, with this price i expected the room would be kinda spacious but nope. But the room was clean, tidy and I slept comfortably. The receptionist at the counter were nice. The extra pillow in the wardrobe was too dusty so I didn't use it. Overall, its a decent place to stay for a night or two.

Been here during the school holiday as all the leading hotels are fully booked. The room is in very condition, clean and neat. The bed is very comfortable and we really have a great night sleep. This hotel does not provide breakfast. It is in the town center where food is so easily available. Overall it is a nice stay if you are on a tight budget tour.

We booked Lucky Hotel through Agoda and we chose Junior Suite. Somehow we ended in the room that is more "Deluxe" than Junior Suite. Anyway we were quite happy with the room. It was quite decent and fairly clean. It was near to places and it was not difficult to find. I must say we had a pleasant stay in the hotel. Just one tiny bit of a complaint. There is no covered parking at the hotel area and we reached there when it was heavily rain.

Stayed here for a night not as a tourist. Tried to check in at 3pm, room not ready..at 5pm when we got our keys, we were surprised that the cleaner is still cleaning our room. So finally we came back to our room after dinner. Room size is quite big but a bit dark due to lack of lightings. Bathtub looked horrible. Bed is fine. There were coffee n tea making facilities which we did not use. No place to hang our towel. Ceilings were mouldy due to leaking roof. Private carpark at the back of hotel. No restaurant. One massage centre. Paid rm120~130 if I'm not mistaken. Wouldn't recommend this.

Not much to say about this hotel except that it is probably over-priced rooms but for those travelling with heavy luggage (due to shopping for local products) and by express coaches, it is just a stone throw away to broad the bus - nearest to Sri Maju, slightly further away Five Stars, 88, Grassland & one other. The room goes from M$120 (online booking slightly cheaper) for a twin-bed room and compared to other tourist cities in northern Malaysia, it is considered not value for money. Even within Ipoh Town, which is between 15 to 20 minutes walking distance via short-cut route, there are more value for money hotels, especially in the "New Town" side of Ipoh Town. Generally the room is basic (key lock rather than card key), but relatively clean, aircon/heater working, limited channels TV, hair drier etc. But for a short one night stay and the need to rush to take the 10.30am express coach after a good one hour walk to and fro the Old Town for breakfast, it is considered an acceptable choice. For those who wish to venture out to the nearby smaller towns of Ipoh - such as Menglembu (highly recommended - see photos attached), it is better to stay nearer to the Ipoh New Town which has easier accessibility to local bus. Likewise for those who wish to go round sampling local food including two excellent western-style kitchens (Plan B and STG Boutique Cafe) and travel light, I would suggest you try staying nearer town.
