Pleasant 3-day stay exploring Lumut, Marina & Pangkor Islands. Spacious room with marina view. Breakfast lacked variety. Quick ferry access, convenient parking. RM80 Pangkor taxi tour enjoyable. Marina Island jetty recommended for ease. Overall, a positive experience.

The Best Western, Lumut is part of the Best Western chain of hotels, which claimed that they are the biggest chain with more than 4000 hotels in over 100 locations worldwide. This hotel is located on Marina Island, which is a reclaimed land, facing Pangkor Island, one of the tourist destinations in Malaysia. As you enter Marina Island through the bridge, you will see that most of the commercial development is still empty and not yet open for business, apart from a few restaurants. In fact, there are still constructions going on the other area of the island. There is also a new ferry terminal to Lumut, with ample parking space which is across the road from this hotel. The old terminal is in Lumut town, a few kilometres from this hotel. Due to the close distance of the new ferry terminal, those who are staying here can make a daily trip to Pangkor island.

The lobby is pretty small, with just 2 seating areas for guests. Next to the lifts is the restaurant / coffee house where the buffet breakfast is served. The buffet spread is not as lavish as one would have liked, but the spread is adequate. There are 2 small swimming pools – probably one is for kids, and the other one is deeper. There is also a beach nearby, but, more like a small enclosed lagoon where there is, practically no waves at all.

The apartment that I was staying was a 3 bedroom apartment, complete with ensuite bathroom for each room – that is very convenient. The whole unit is huge – the lounge and dining is one massive area. Although there is a kitchenette provided, there is no cooking stove. There is a fridge, though with coffee making facilities as well. There is a balcony as well. Actually, this is a big plus for the hotel – ample space, with huge rooms and ensuite bathroom. You dont feel cramped or cooped up like some of the other hotels where space is scarce. The flooring is all tiled. When I first entered the unit, I was amazed at the huge size of it.

The main bedroom comes with a separate balcony – and the bathroom is equipped with a bathtub and shower area. It is equipped with a queen sized bed – though I think, a king sized would be better. The other 2 rooms come with 2 single beds, and there is only shower in the bathroom – no bathtub. Of course the wc and sinks etc are available in all bathrooms.

Now the not so good part – the floor tiles in the bathroom is pretty slippery when its wet, so you have to be careful, especially after taking a shower. In addition, although the shower is equipped with the rain type shower, the water pressure is low – to me, due to that, it defeat the purpose of having a rain type shower. It also takes a while for the desired water temperature to flow, and if you keep adjusting the temperature lever between hot and cold, you may not get the water temperature that you want. To overcome this, maybe in the morning, you turn the shower on, then only brush your teeth and hopefully by time you are done, the temperature is suitable for shower. Of course, water will be wasted, but who can have a shower if the water is far too cold?

Due to the floor tiles, you can feel the dust after a day or two. I also noticed that housekeeping do not sweep or vacuum the floors – merely making up beds, replacing the towels, toiletries and coffee/tea etc. So if you are staying for a night or two, maybe you can feel the dusty floor by the time you want to check out.

There is also limited no of power plugs in the room – only 1 in each room. So it is very difficult if you have multiple gadgets to charge at the same time. I think there only 4 in the lounge and dining – 2 being used for tv and fridge, leaving only 2 free power points. The tv reception is pretty bad – there is no cable or satellite channels – just the normal channels.

Wifi should be available throughout the rooms, but there is none in my room. According to other guests, they also have bad connectivity, if they can manage to connect to the wifi. The best place is in the lobby, where the wifi strength is strong. Also the mobile lines for data are pretty bad in this area ( of course this is nothing to do with the hotel ). If you need to do some works and emails, best bet is to head out to the lobby and work from there.

Other than that, it is pretty averaged – the staff may need to smile more to welcome the guests. Probably that could cheer up the guests. But then again, if the management is not doing much, then I would think that the staff also cant do very much eg wifi connection in the rooms. I am sure some guests would have complained to the front office, but if the management is not taking actions to rectify the matter, what can the staff do about it?

In conclusion, if you are travelling on business and require heavy internet connection, then perhaps you need to find some other hotels. However, if you are travelling with families on holidays and requires less internet connection, the huge space in the 3 bedroom apartment would be a major consideration to stay here. In addition, the weaknesses listed above doesn’t mean that you cant stay here – only that you have to bear with it eg being careful with the toilet tiles, prioritise charging of your gadget – or get a multiple sockets adaptor etc.

Was there in the month of September for a friends pre wedding function. The first impression of the room that it is very spacious and great views and windy. Very suitable for couple and group with families as there are many room types to choose from. We took the 2 bedrooms suite so that all the grandparents and grandchild can stay together and yet had our privacy in separate bathrooms.

Pool water was clean and the recreation activities such as paddle boats , canoes in the lagoon with not much of waves is surprisingly feeling safe as we have kids that just started to learn how to canoe.

Children request to come back again!!!

IN DIRE NEED OF MAINTENANCE

Our 3room apartment was spacious and generally clean but staff missed cleaning one of the bathrooms..... still with used soap on the soap-dish and clumps of hair in the drain. Yucks! We got out rooms only at 6.30pm

Staff was friendly and courteous. Hotel in dire need of maintenance and refurbishment.

The pool at D'Ocean wing was closed for upgrading and the pool at D'Sea wing has so many broken tiles, it's safety hazard. Guests have cut their toes. No regulations on proper swimming attire. Water is murky and dirty.

There's nothing much to do here except for paddle boat and grouper fish feeding (I only saw 4 in the pond). Other recreational facilities are closed or in shambles.

The Marina Island Ferry Jetty is just 10mins walk away. It's more popular than Lumut Jetty because the ferry ride to Pangkor is just 10mins compared to 40mins from Lumut Jetty. If you are a guest from the hotel on a day trip to Pangkor, I suggest you walk to the jetty because just too many cars, you might need to park so far away, almost back at hotel....and with RM20 parking fee!!

There are no restaurants open for dinner at the Hotel....only one at the restaurant & bar at the Marina Island jetty

The unit is very clean. Linens, towels and mats are changed daily. The staff cleans the unit on a daily basis so cleanliness is kept to the utmost highest standards. Sunita as the host is very responsive. Any issues or problems raised to her will be solved immediately by the next day. The balcony overlooking the sea view is simply splendid and breath taking. The chairs and tables provided at the balcony allows this experience to be enjoyed to the fullest. Phone reception may be weak, but this is not a problem as the internet provided is splendid. Thank you for such a wonderful place to stay for my work here.

The management of this place seriously needs to "wake up" to how pathetic this place is being run. Horrible service and everything in this place is either broken or run down despite paying premium for the room, and the worst 2 ladies running the show in the evening of our check in. One is a Malay lady at the reception that just lies about everything and then there is another Indian lady who is arrogant, unhelpful and has zero manners. We arrived late in November and had a sick family member. There is no signs or humans at the entrance area to tell guest where the check in counter is . Once found, service is slow. and was given a key card that didn't work. Here is where it went south. So, instead of changing our room despite the whole block having minimum occupancy, they insisted the key would work but had to call the maintenance guy who was not even at site. Waited for half an hour, with all our bags at the hallway and Indian woman refusing to acknowledge there is a problem. This despite telling them we have a sick family member. The receptionist said she knows this place is rubbish but too bad, they are fully booked. Checked their website and still ample rooms available. The maintenance guys tries and tries but the door doesn't open and STILL, they refused to change our room until we kicked up a big fuss. Magically, they could find another room but guess what? The room door sticks and can't be open or shut without breaking your shoulder so we rejected that room and they were still reluctant to change our room again. Finally, because we were going to lose it, they gave another room which looks like it hasn't been cleaned for weeks but we were too tired at that point to care. See photos of blood-like stains on the desk and holes on the walls. The term resort is used very lightly here. Free breakfast is sick inducing cold food with the only hot item is an egg station. The paddle boat is okay with the guy running it trying his best to make a buck in this lousy place. Couldn't wait to check out. Holes on the walls, stains everywhere, dirty iron board, broken iron and TV that has such poor reception (see photos). Place smelt musty. Yucks! Just don't stay here unless you enjoy paying over $200 for crappy service for a night.

Where to start. Mmm. I'll just let the photos of our room do the talking. The ants won't mind.
Breakfast was really bland buffet affair. Flies all over the food. Staff really look bored and peed off. Service is slow (I had to clean our table this morning just to eat breakfast)
Room was basic at best. Ants all over. Flies too.
Dusty old headboard with the outline of someone's hands still on it. Bare cables in places accessible to 3 year olds. No head spray on the toilet bum gun. Nothing in the mini bar either. Bathroom door was split. Two 50cl complimentary bottles of water though. You couldn't close the windows in the bathroom either so all of the islands many and varied insect life can and did gain access to my toothpaste.

We were only there 2 nights thank goodness, so not worth complaining to staff - I'm not sure they would have done anything anyway.

Overall it is what it is. We were attending a wedding in the conference hall next door so location was key and there's no other hotels on the island - maybe part of the reason so little care is taken of the place.

I can't recommend this hotel. Next time I'll pay the big bucks and hit Pangkor Island proper. Lesson learned.

We stayed at D' Ocean. Took 2 rooms. The apartment staff , Mdm Sunita gave us an excellent service from arranging the units and answering our questions patiently. She also suggested for places to dine in around here. The unit is clean, huge, has a bath tub ,dining table ,tv in short a well furnished room. It's certainly clean and the view was majestic.
If you are lazy to go out, foodpanda delivers here.
In all, a beautiful short trip.

For a person who wants to admire and explore Lumut and Pangkor Island, I highly recommend this resort as it can give a majestic view of both Pangkor Island and Lumut at the same time. The thing that baffled me the most is you can watch from the resort as the rain forests in Pangkor Island and Lumut form rainclouds and they drift away to pour rain on this earth. After this pandemic, the resort offers many fun activities that you guys shouldn't miss at any chance. Lastly, I thank the authorities for the services that exceeded expectations.

If you mean monsoon period which generally affect most of East coast of Malaysia and will it affect the northern region in Lumut seashore? Be at rest for what you may face maybe some light to heavy rainfall. You won't confront flood unless it's the Hand of God.
