It was apparently called coral bay as the beach nearby was white 30yrs ago, but this is not the case now.
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with a pool view as 3 adults for 2 nights. It was roughly 218 MYR / £40 per night.
The apartment was very spacious and had a nice layout including an en suite in the master bedroom, kitchenette, dining table, balcony, utility balcony, wardrobes and mini fridge. Beds were comfy and 3x AC units kept the entire apartment nice and chilly.
The apartment was very clean, including the bathrooms and whilst it was a little dated with signs of wear and tear it was not dirty.
Negatives of the room are that it could do with a little decor (minor complaint) as it does not feel very homely with so much empty space. The kitchen space, apart from the fridge is also not really usable as an apartment kitchen (no utensils, plates or mugs, just 2x glasses and a kettle)
Soundproofing is the major problem. The windows are single pane so the bedroom near the pool let in a ton of noise, especially from kids. The other bedroom faced the hallway and footsteps, talking or doors opening/closing were waking us up. Its also audible from the living room.
Front desk staff were fine, housekeeping were nice, breakfast staff did not look happy at all.
Breakfast buffet was below average, despite being very busy the choice was limited. Porridge, fruit, cereal, hot drinks, orange juice, a few rice dishes, eggs, noodles each day. Not much variety.
The pool is very small and as a lot of kids were in it, i would not recommend it for adults.
The gym was bloody awful lol, it was like a prison gym and absolutely knackered. The equipment looks like its from the 70s and has never been cleaned. There is no AC and the door to the gym is a metal gate, so its as hot as the outdoor temps.
Location is ok but quite busy. Lobby has a duty free store and supermarket next to it. Taxi rank outside alongside a few eateries, food stalls, bike rentals, small beaches and massage parlour within a 10 min walking distance.
Would i visit again?
Yes for another short stay. The apartment was fine by island standards but I would pick a quieter time (not Raya week).
Even if you're not staying over, you could just come over to shop at the duty free shops, play foosball (Rm 4 per game), and eat at the amazing restaurants nearby.
It's a splendid location
It is not a hotel I would recommend to anybody. It is a pity as it is located close to the beach and has some nice cafes closeby.
It is however near the beach and some restaurants. It also has a supermarket and a duty-free shop. Good for location but otherwise there are better hotels.
There was a big group there for some sort of conference. They made so much noise as they were getting back into their respective apartments, and that was almost midnight. The next 'good' part was at 6.45 am we were woken up by loud music played over speakers as the group was dancing and stretching as their morning exercise ! When a complain was made regarding the noise level, the staff at the reception simply said 'oh I am powerless, you need to speak to someone in charge but I don't know where she is'
The cherry on top of the cake was the pool cleanliness. Coral Bay does have a big pool with acceptable depth for adults and children BUT the hygiene of the pool is non existence to say the least. The pool floor littered was things like name tags, tissue papers, rubbish etc even the water didn't look clean, later that day I found out why. Around 15-20 middle aged men and women just jumped into the pool fully dressed (dressed in track pants , t shirts and headscarfs for females) to 'swim'. The hotel staff just watched and did not attempt to stop them when pool sign clearly stated basic pool attire.
My uncle fell sick after swimming in such appalling conditions.
Breakfast was provided but it was a pathetic spread, it was mostly oily and fatty unhealthy food.
This is one place I will definitely AVOID !
Pangkor Island itself is also pathetic as the place is also dull, dirty and it's difficult to look for good foods esp. for muslim like us! I am really sad to visit this Island after more than 2 decades, I do not see any transformation to make this Island a real resort island to attract tourists be it the locals or overseas to have repeat visits! This will be my last visit to Pangkor and also to Coral Bay Resort as it's is really absurd with bad services!
I would suggest that Agoda to remove this resort from it's listing as it is just disappointing!
