Once again, the service and standard of The Edison is second to none. Having stayed at the hotel pre-Covid, I was already extremely impressed by the warmth of the staff and the beautiful features of the hotel. I would say my return to the hotel felt like I was coming home. Although the staff had changed after 4 years, the service was still impeccable. As we arrived at the gate, the managers came running out to assist us with our bags and checking in was made quickly and efficiently. The hotel is as well maintained as it was prior and you do get a full tour of the compound so you can make your way around the hotel seamlessly. You can even ask for delicious local food and drink recommendations from the young and vibrant staff who are more than happy to share their knowledge of Penang to enrich your trip. The hotel is also situated in a very central location so you can easily make your way around authentic local restaurants and cool bars. If the scorching heat isn’t your thing, the Grab rides are an equally efficient and convenient alternative as well. Perks of the hotel were the complimentary snacks/ drinks and the wine hour (6-7pm) where you get to enjoy a glass of wine on the house so you never have to feel like you want for nothing. The Nasi Lemak for breakfast was also a standout. Shout out to Faz, Yen Thin, Chloe, David and Pei Li for being so hospitable and treating me like a friend. I will definitely be back again whenever I’m in Penang.

We booked 2 rooms through their website and get better deals then other platforms. Staffs are very helpful and friendly, give us a lot of recommendations for local food and attractions. They takes care of my parents well even with language barrier, haha! The 24hr lounge supplies lots of snacks and beverages with free of charge!

Unsure why there are negative reviews about The Edison, It is lovely! Its got great charm, history, great location and fabulous staff. Travelling from the UK on business and pleasure I stayed over a weekend. From the arrival to departure the service was fab. Polite and attentive and ready to help. Lovely rooms with great shower and bathroom. Complimentary lounge products available throughout the stay. Loved it - really relaxing way from the heat of George Town. Recommend to UK tourist and business users.

Service of the staff was very good. The manager, Albert Tan, is young, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The price is decent for a 4-star hotel (my rating). Hotel is well preserved. It used to be a tycoon’s mansion built in 1906 or thereabouts.

Lovely hotel in an old building, well adapted to a hotel with stylish public spaces. Rooms large. I would have preferred a door rather than a curtain separating the bedroom from the bathroom. The windows are frosted which makes the rooms rather dark. The only mirror is in the bathroom but there is no plug socket near to it, making drying your hair difficult. The swimming pool was out of action during our stay which was disappointing as we had specifically chosen a hotel with a pool. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

We thank you for your review and are happy to hear your appreciation of the restoration and planning of spaces done to this Grand Old Dame. With strict restoration, impositions existed on how much enhancing of the structure and interior fittings especially within the bathrooms could be done. We note your highlight of the open concept bathroom which we understand is not preferred by every guest, we do however have some guestrooms which are separated by a wall from the bathroom. We apologize for having to close the pool for maintenance during your stay. Hopefully, you would stay with us again on your next trip to Penang and our Pool will be in tip-top condition for an afternoon swim.

It was a memorable stay because of the hotel. The staff are exceptional. Better than any big chain luxury hotel. The personalized service from Albert and the rest of the staff will make your stay enjoyable. The massage and restaurant recommendations were excellent. The hotel is beautiful historic building. Large high ceiling rooms. Must not forget the great breakfast, and the beverage and snacks offering which open 24 hours. The happy hr wine, nuts and cheese was something we look forward to. One of the gem in Penang!

We traveled to Penang with my 1-year-old and 2.5-year-old children. We lived in Edison for the first two days. It was perfect. It has complete baby accessories and is very clean. Although it is an old house, it has good sound insulation and retains the architectural features of the old house. Modern decoration, a blend of old and new. The location is very good. In the old city, we took our children all by walk, and we can reach many famous foods and attractions. The reception staff are also very friendly, you can ask them for assistance if you have any questions

The hotel property is a beautiful representation of Penang's colonial times. It was an easy walk to anywhere in George Town. Albert and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful--some of the best service I have ever experienced. Just be aware that this is a vintage property and may not include all of the in-room features found in modern chain hotels. My room also had frosted glass on both windows, allowing no view. It was easy to open the smaller window, though, to check the weather.
