I guess you get what you pay for and RM 110 is cheap for a night. Nevertheless I was disappointed. yes the location is good and yes it has a pool....but everything else was less than average; all in all you get a clean room with clean sheets and and clean towels but everything else is pretty run down. We all have different expectations so maybe other people will disagree but for us it was not a nice experience. It was convenient as it was next door to a medical facility that we had to go to but that is about all.

Had been my choice every time i visit penang for the past 3 years. This hotel has all the basic needs: parking, opposite famous tau sa peah(both ghee heang and him heang), close to komtar,.. but rooms....from family room till the triple room i stayed recently, it really needs upgrade, especially the bathroom!

I stayed in this hotel for 04 days and 03 nights. The Hotel has its own pro and cons.

We reached here early morning. As the checkin time was late and the room was not vacant, our luggage was kept in the luggage room. Reception staff was helpful and asked for the mobile no saying that she will inform us as soon as any room gets vacant as she was expecting some room to be vacant by 10.30. As I did not have ant Malaysia no by that time, I could not give her any.

When we checked in, room size was okay not large as described in other review. Old world charm of the hotel has been maintained. our room was on ground floor, on pool side.

The Parking was ample. Wi Fi signal strength was good in rooms but speed was slow.

As Penang is hot and humid, you can get umbrellas from reception.

Pool was good Shower and pool water was warm. However one has to go to reception to get the towels and sign for them and also return them at the reception.

Biggest let down was Breakfast. our package included breakfast. for all four days the breakfast was ditto same. The spread was also not great. For a vegetarian like me there was not much choice. When I casually asked the attendant there he said as the management is cutting cost, so there is limited spread and cheaper dished are repeated everyday.

Second letdown was house keeping. Rooms were not cleaned properly and Bathroom never during our 04 day stay. They never refilled the tea station, soap. we were four people in a Family room. When we asked for tea bags at reception, we were sent 02 tea bags.

Bathroom were just passable, leaky toilet seat and with a lot of scope for improvement.

I booked2 rooms in this hotel via laterooms for 6nights although i've read the reviews before. At check in the receptionists insisted on paying the total amount without showing our rooms, hotel facilities and services. As we travelled with my 4 year-old daughter and my parents since 5am everybody was exaustied, we paid everything in advance by credit card. Then they ask a deposit on the top of that during our stay. Hotel rooms are not soundproof our rooms located near pool were quite noisey and we could hear clearly sound from upstairs room. Rooms are not clean even after housekeeping: unclean floor, no fresh towel sometimes, bed undone sometimes. I made my daughter's extra bed by myself during our stay. Our bathroom was tiny and equipments were ancient. Breakfast were ok but we had to go earlier than 9am otherwise the choices reduced. Hotel tour desk helped us to get taxi but we realized afterwards that they doubled the price then we booked our excursions ourselves with a very kind and helpful local taxi driver. Hotel management office was next to the guest room but unfortunately when we were crossed in corridor no greeting no exchange.

My guess is that this hotel is fairly inconsistent, which is why the reviews are so variable and mixed,

PRO
- Good sized rooms, what feels like an authentic colonial atmosphere, lovely outdoor pool, free WiFi, Website which portrays its assets to the very full!

CON
- Slow unempowered reception, poor breakfast, dirty room, threadbare towels, very noisy at night (air conditioning & noisy residenmts at weekends)

We originally booked here for four nights, but left after two. Friday night was our first night and resulted in little sleep. The hotel offers very cheap weekend-only rates which seems to pack in the young punters, with the obvious consequences. However, that doesn't account for the poor reception and the less-than-clean rooms.

If you're not travelling with children, can avoid weekends, and you can negotiate a great rate (and the location really suits your itinerary) - then this hotel may be fine for you.

Worst place ever. Rooms smells so bad that it was impossible to sleep. The bed stinks the pillows stinks. So dirty. A terrible place. This should be closed for a cleaning session and construction job. Don't get fooled by the photos. They are not the reality.

Stayed here during our recent visit to Penang. Turned out to be a great location as it's near Gurney Dr, the foodie's paradise, tourist attractions like the Thai sleeping Buddha temple & Burmese temple as well as others, a couple of food courts/coffee shops just around the corner offering great varieties of food to choose from.

There's also a nasi kandar across the road offering tasty roti canai in the morning. Nothing beats roti canai & teh tarik to start the day.

Lots of families stay here as it offers great value. There were however a couple of maintenance issues requiring attention - the door lock on one of the rooms didn't work properly & the floor boards squeaks in another room. The free wifi keeps dropping out.

This place is very busy so book early.

Tip - pool side rooms can get a little noisy during the day, but these rooms are also more convenient with car parking right outside.

Worst hotel that I ever stayed! With the price that I paid, its totally crap!!!

Checked in the hotel at 2pm something; went out for dinner at 8pm plus. Came back an hour later with total shock. Missing DSLR, camera bag with camera flash light inside, ipad and iphone5.

The management could not give explanation how my belongings all gone within an hour. Claiming that no one walked near to my room! Total crap! My room was at first floor, and management claimed that unlikely for people to climb up to my room as the room below has fenced up. And yet, the management could not provide reasonable explanation.

This is indeed the worst experience that I have encountered. I had stayed in even low-ranked hotel but this was my first experience for missing belongings in THE hotel!!!

I have experienced great loss because of this! Hence, I request a reasonable and acceptable explanation. Reimbursement on similar value losses is expected. I will not tolerate with any crap explanation from the management.

Love this hotel. It's simple, cosy and staff there are friendly (of course you have to be polite first!). I have seen complains about rude staff on other websites but they are not. I will definitely stay in this hotel again and again. Some complained that there are not toiletries but think again... for SGD60nett for a double, how much toiletries you expect? I am totally fine with this idea of just clean room, clean towels AND coffee facilities.

It's a beautiful building, rooms are spacious and for the price, breakfast is great. Location is away from the crowd and you see the local way of life there, minus tourist buses and karaoke and all those crappy places.

The best part we park our car right at the back door of our room!

Everybody should support small hotels like these as they are really value for money.
