It's okay if the hotel is old, but it's important for the management to keep the hotel cleanliness up to standard. Stayed in room 705. Pros The bed is comfy Room is spacious Amenities are well packed Even come with bathtub A/C are good and cold Blanket is fluffy but slightly thin Price is affordable Cons The toilet constantly will have small flies, especially in the toilet bowl (Should do something about this) Pillows are so thin Due to the area near to mosque, you'll hear the adzan, which is fine cause it's for a while only, but you can even hear the disco from no idea where for the whole night 12AM to 630AM No lift security, you can go to any floor as you wish.

Very comfortable bed. Bedsheets are crisp and comfy. Towels are old but still clean. Room is old but spacious. Location is very good, easily accessible to attractions. There's a CAT Penang bus stop just outside the hotel.

Chose Merchant due to stayed before, about 7 years back. Hotel provides carpark facilities. Location is also very ideal. Stayed from 28th to 30th May. Room 509. Room wise, the aircon is located wrong placment, therefore when u sleep can't get the aircon. The bathub and sink needs to be repaired. Not able to fill bathtub with water due to no facet closure. Ask from the Night Duty staff and reply received was "nothing can be done". Room was cleaned and good condition. Met two staff, Nisa and Raj, both were friendly!. This hotel is always full on weekends. Hope the management will take heed of comments to improve on the hotel environment! If you are in the room just for sleeping, then can stay here as there is a fantastic Food Court at the back.

Liked · the location is good as its near the main penang street. bathroom is clean with new tiles installed and i can see the bathroom is kept clean. Disliked · first of all, i would like to complain about the room itself. the old furniture smeel from the wardrobe stinks the whole room. aircond is not cold. room 904 9th floor. it was literally at 16 degrees but it was not cold. next, the pillow provided is like "sotong" (squid) where there is no cotton in. so lembik and i felt that the beggers out there has better pillows to sleep with. i mean, how can a 3 star hotel provide pillow that is worst than a 2 star shoplot hotel. very disappointed on this. the comforter was also very thin its like a white cloth only with fully filling. better give a plain white cloth as a blanket. basically, we been put off with the beautiful pictures from the hotel but what was given below expectation especially with the pillow, comforter and the matress. the main reason to have a stay in hotel to enjoy a good night rest and sleep but this is not achiveable in this hotel with the NON SOUND Prof windows and door, you can hear the sounds of vehicles from the road below. very disturbing for a sleep. basically, i would rate this hotel as BAD and making in my WORST hotel that i have stayed. if can please avoid and choose many other hotels nearby.

Love The location , nearby with everything. Easy to walk. Front desk staff was really helpful , lovely great and smile . Love it. Cafe staff good. But the food always same. try new recipe please. many times stay but same buffet breakfast. Food in menu was so expensive and not tasty. Not recommended. Weird when cafe staff drink a coffee and read paper next to my table. He's tall chinese guy if not mistaken.

I never slept there, I only went to eat 3 or 4 times the all you can eat breakfast for 25 rm (2008-2019). The dishes are mostly simple Western (fried eggs, toasts, butter, jam, white sausages, rosti’s, orange juice in bottle, pineapple juice in bottle, milk,…) . Before they had mashed potatoes but now no more or not always. However it is too hot in Malaysia to be so full after breakfast and in Thailand in Hat yai I know a place where you have a lot more choices of dishes for half price in a more luxury environment. The dishes are not bad, just simple, they are more and more refined choices in the place I know in Thailand. I was also a bit frustrated the last time when I went to toilets and they think I want to go out without paying. Better pay before when you enter. The food place seemed to be clean in a kind of modernish environment but their toilets downstairs were disgusting. I was surprised in a seemed to be expensive hotel for tourists while I sleep in a place in Penang very clean for one third of the price.

Window didnt close, door to balcony wasnt soundproof, so we heard it all! The club nearby, the cars and loud motorbikes, the mosks, the wind... it was horrible. Even with earplugs we couldn't sleep. After complaning we received a room in the back of the hotel, so service was oke. Breakfast was a laugh: fake jam, fake orange juice, dirty coffee. Rather pay more and enjoy. Cannot believe the people who say they enjoyed their stay. Although the rooms were ok

Prepare yourselves if like us you want To sleep at night. Constant, cars, sirens, car horns and above all the nightclub which sounded like it was down stairs makes it all but impossible To rest after a hard days sightseing, beware the trishaw riders at the entrance, they are lazy and rude. The room was clean and the breakfast nearly médiocre. Only one key card so impossible To return to a nice cool room, which we had when we stayed 20 minutes down the road in batu ferringhi. Yes its cheap and you get what you pay for. If you like a good nights sleep dont stay here.

OMG! The service is already bad, but we ordered something easy: iced lemon tea and pasta carbonara of their menu (as they had run out of a couple of items). The iced tea was served hot with the iced melting and had to reorder ice. Took them 20 minutes to serve us, probably forgot because other ladies that came later where almost finishing when we were served. In their menu, showed a picture with “spaghetti” but they served broken spirals. When I asked the lady she said it’s because I had said “pasta”… Spaghetti = pasta. Ok, we accepted. First bite… extremely overcooked, not even close to a carbonara, and then an incredibly small portion for the price we were about to pay. By it all means they have no idea what they are cooking. If you don’t know about western food, do not cook western food - do just Malaysian. We never do this, but this time pay for the teas and gave away the “pasta”. Good thing is they apologised and give us back the money without hesitating. Fun fact was that a few streets just behind are all the local restaurants with the good quality vs affordable prices.
