Affordable room rate BUT :
The room seems renovated but not shower room and you can spot the yellow mark on the bed sheet and shower room.

Car park available that's good for those who has their own transport.

Anyway the housekeeping service is good but the shower room wasn't give me a pleasant experience.

Hotel rooms is clean and cozy. Though it is situated a little 'far' away from the central area, you'll be surprised at how convenient it is! Just a turn take a turn (while facing the road), to the right you get a eating place that operates in the morning, while taking a left turn takes you to a stretch of road (Jalan Macalister) with lots of stalls selling various popular local delicacies. Just diagonally opposite is the old brand name, Ghee Hiang, which I personally feel that sells the best tau sar pneah (ground green bean biscuits).

Lobby staff was very pleasant and polite. Gave me the password of WIFI at midnight with a smile. Called for a taxi for me to the airport in the next morning - it came within minutes.

The room was very basic yet complete. Aircond, TV, lamps; working perfectly. Beds were made up nicely and the whole room was clean.

Toilet had shower with strong pressure for hot and cold - did not expect this one!

Internet (mine was in 3rd floor, code name GIH3 was superb. I downloaded a 1-Gb office file in less than 30 minutes - did not expect this one as well!!! =D

For RM120/Friday night in Penang? Totally worth it =D

Do not stay here . Our room was old, dirty and smelled like stale smoke and to top it off we ended up with bed bugs. We knew it was a budget hotel but we were definitely steered wrong by the high ratings it received. We looked around the other floors and saw they were doing renovations on the upper floors. We went to use the stairs and there were old mattresses and furniture in the stairwell. This is probably the worst 3 star place we ever booked.

[Air-con]
Air-condition unit isn't cold enough to cater for the room environment, even though at full blast & temperature set to the lowest.
[Wi-Fi]
Hotel attendance can even give you the wrong passwords for my room & lobby.
Wi-Fi isn't strong & had never been at full-blast ever since I stayed there for 3 nights. Wi-Fi is very difficult to hook on, most of time hooked on but unable to surf internet.
[Over-all]
The lift, room corridor & room are very stuffy & warm (especially during noon time)

Last april I stayed at this budget hotel during my visit to georgetown.
The room was dirty and the shower was not working well. The receptionist who attend us at the front office was rude.
I knew this is a budget hotel, but at least they can give a better customer service and clean room.
Next to the hotel, there is a dimsum restaurant. The food was nice and the price was reasonable. You can visit the restaurant for breakfast

I usually use another hotel (PPIsland) in Penang, but on this occasion it was fully booked. The Garden Inn is just around the corner so I tried it. The reviews are not too good so I was not expecting a good stay.

I think that the reviews are fairly honet here:-

Older hotel, good location, reasonably priced, very clean. free wifi.

The only downsides are that there is loud karaoke until very late. I was on the top floor and I would have been distubed if I had not been out until 3am myself. The staff are OK, a little dis-interested, I did not take breakfast, but it did not look too "exciting".

I would return, but with earplugs and only on the top floor.

I'm having a one night stopover in Penang. I'm using this hotel as a place to sleep after enjoying Penang's nightlife. Travel to the hotel by car, easier and nearer if take the Penang Ferry compared to Penang bridge. Search the hotel using Google map. I went out at night to enjoy Penang's great nightlife. When I get back to hotel around 3am, parking is full because of karaoke patrons car inside the hotel. Need to wait around 10 minutes before can finally park the car with parking boy help. Karaoke still noisy at that time and I can hear it from my room although I'm on the top floor. The karaoke closes at 5am since it's on a weekend.

Stayed there last weekend on 20/9 - 21/9/09. Realised both the rooms were infested with red bugs that bites. Checked with duty officer at 4am requesting to change rooms but was told that's how it is. Then requested to change mattress but still there awful loads of them. The supervisor Mr Lee refused to get us a diff room at other hotels, but refunded only 1 nite while charging full for another. Could sleep bcoz of the bugs and compounded by the loud noise from the KTV on 1st floor till 6am!!! Will never recommends this place plus already file complaint with Consumer Triibunal over the rooms condition!

I did not stay here but I was wandering around on my own and very lost. I walked into this hotel to ask directions. The young lady at the desk was very helpful, ordered me a "Grab" gave me a nice chair to sit on and organised with the driver where to take me, so on those merits, I'm writing this review.
