Nearby everything, you can discover Georgetown easily by foot, a lot of delicious hawker food around, really clean rooms (not common in Malaysia) and the most gorgeous and helpful ladies at the front desk!

From the moment we stepped into the hotel we felt welcome and loved The hotel had charming old world architecture and sympathetic furnishings. It was a sea of tranquility in the hustle and bustle of downtown Georgetown. Especially relaxing upstairs splendid lounge area . open air lounge, complete with a lovingly restored opium bed. Our 2-night stay at Yeng Keng was a wonderful experience. We booked the Chulia Suite on the 2nd floor. It was clean, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The special part were the open areas outside the room where the children could lazy around, read magazines and play scrabble. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Poh, the Manager deserves special mention...

Stayed 1 night in Yeng Keng as: 1) wanted to stay walking distance to Georgetown attractions, 2) easy car park availability. The hotel ticked these for us and added to that, staff were super nice and rooms clean. As the AC is not connected to the 'key' power, came back to nicely cooled room after walking around the area.. there...

Boutique hotel, renovated from an old building. Tastefully done. The room is clean despite its age. Breakfast is traditional nyonya food. Good spread. Staff is very friendly and helpful and provide you with good advice especially on how to get about to different parts of Penang by public transport. It's in the midst of Georgetown and makes it easy to...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Yeng Keng Hotel is a 20-room restored heritage boutique hotel located in one of the oldest surviving and intact 19th-century buildings at the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage City of George Town, Penang. Like many of the other buildings in the neighbourhood, it was originally built in the mid 1800's as a private residence. The Anglo Indian bungalow belonged initially to Shaik Eusoffe bin Shaik Latiff an Indian Muslim family and remains unique in Chulia Street for not being relegated to the rear of a row of shop-houses blocking its facade. In 1897 trustees of the Cantonese Club 'Ying Han Pit Shu' bought the building on behalf of the association, later donating it to the trustees of the Straits Chinese Building Association in 1939. The building was later leased to Yeng Keng Hotel. The conversion from a residence into a budget hotel was the prevailing trend along the street at the beginning of the 20th century. Small places of lodgings that were conveniently reached from the harbour were in great demand as the traffic in the port grew. An impressive traditional Chinese entrance gate was constructed announcing entry to the 'Lodging House,' adding grandeur to the commercial establishment and to distinguish it from the rest of the buildings on the street. Conservation and upgrading by the present owner, Hoo Kim Properties Sdn Bhd, was undertaken in March 2009 with the renewed Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010. ... more   less
