Not very friendly, minimal English, went for a room, and had to wait for staff to come fix the light, instead of promptly giving us a different room. Lounge area was cramped, and not welcoming. Internet was not working very well either. Find a better place.

I came back to this guesthouse for a dorm room to find out the price had increased from 22 RM to 28.5 RM for a similar air-con dorm room. I think the fan dorms were 25 or 25.5 RM. The common shared bathroom is mostly the same (5 toilet/shower combo stalls), but it seems like hot water heaters are in... More

I arrived in Georgetown with nowhere booked to stay, after asking around at a couple of places I decided to stay at Crystal Guesthouse. I looked the nicest from the outside, had a bed for me in the dorm and they repeated over and over that they had hot showers. The dorm was just a simple dorm, 12 single beds... More

I liked the place! I stayed in their big dorm room on the third floor. The room smelled a bit, but other than that it was clean and had AC. Barhrooms on the second floor were old but clean and did not smell. Friendly staff, fast wifi (at least on the first floor), best location. Chairs on the first floor... More

Needing to stay one more night in Georgetown, I went ahead and settled on the first dorm room that I thought would be ok. Crystals was right there near the 7-11 and across from the night hawker stands where I got off and I decided to try it out. The large dorm room was on the 3rd floor. It looks... More

I stayed here several times in 2012 and 2013 while on trips to Penang. The guesthouse is in Chulia Street (Lebuh Chulia) right near where the minivans from Thailand drop off passengers. It is about 20metres from the entrance to Love Lane , and opposite are many stalls selling noodle soup. There are two entrance doors, one into an attached cafe... More

OK it is not smart, but at 22RM a night I think you get value for money. Rooms a clean (although there was an unfortunate smell of Durian). Staff are very friendly. WORD OF WARNING - beware of the Hacker! The cheapest beer we found in Georgetown (5RM), even cheaper than 7/11. The hangover the next morning was certainly the... More

We had a ground floor room, only had an internal window and could hear staff and guests talking loudly till quite late. Staff were helpful though, changing our baht for local currency, helped with getting the bus. Maybe the rooms upstairs are nicer.

All we are looking for in a room is somewhere cool to hide from the sun with a nice bed and no blood sucking bugs. This guesthouse wins on all of those points. The staff are friendly and polite, helping us with booking taxis and ferry tickets. They also held a free buffet for Chinese new year to which all... More

“Most rooms do not have any windows except those facing the street. These may be a bit noisy because traffic goes all night. Decide if you prefer a fan or airconditioning. Fan rooms are a few ringgit cheaper. There are some rooms downstairs. Most rooms do not have attached bathrooms, however the communal showers are cleaned very frequently and have hot water.”
