We booked a Vintage Suite for 3 nights. It was wonderful. Clean, good-sized room and lovely bathroom. Quiet area, but not far to walk into the centre of Georgetown. Welcoming staff and beautiful lobby/lounge to wait in. No food provided - but lots of eating places around. Great place to stay.

We were delighted with our spotless and comfortable bed, offering a king size mattress and fine quality white linen! The bathroom, too, was pristine and offered both a rain shower and wall shower, with piping hot water and excellent pressure. However, apart from a small and comfortable lobby area, this is all you’ll get. And beware - we were given a windowless room, which we declined and then “upgraded” to a first floor room with window. Note also that there are no lifts. Sadly, we weren’t given any opportunity from the staff on recommended restaurants, etc and they displayed quite a nonchalant attitude at times. Location is in the historic district of George Town. All in all, a very comfortable, albeit no-frills, lodging.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for your review. We do have a list of food places and attractions that guests may want to try. I am surprise you did not get it when u check in. I will reiterate again on this aspect. Yes there are a couple of rooms that are windowless and the back rooms have glass blocks so the natural lights can come in. The frontal rooms all have windows. Some of the inner rooms have windows but cannot be open. When we renovated this property, we set security as our main priority. Our rooms are on ground floor and. 1st floor, and we worry about breakins on the back lane, thus we decided on glass blocks instead for a peace of mind. Anyhow, thanks for your support.

2 night stay in room #4 - very comfortable king bed, windowless room. Room was very spacious and clean, ditto for the bathroom. Trendy RBG lighting in the bathroom and headboard which we liked for ambient lighting because of the lack of a window. It took us a day to realize that there is a switch (with a red light) for the hot water heater. Appreciated the 2 bottles of water and packets of instant coffee and tea with a kettle in the room, also a few small free snacks and water next to the front desk but no breakfast. Lots of local food in the area. I’d highly recommend this small inn due to the quirky decor and great value for money factor (booked through agoda).

This is a really small hotel and that’s about it about this place. This hotel has been refurbished from some shop houses and given a modern feel, other than that there is nothing heritage about the hotel or rooms. Maybe the bedroom wardrobe with holes had a heritage feel (see photos). We booked 4 rooms for 3 nights and were assigned 3 facing the road and a room without windows. Booking: as this is a small hotel as stated by the owner, deposit requires a bank transfer and payment in cash is prefer versus credit card. Upon checkin, the owner of the hotel has the audacity to tell us, such a small amount ($144) for tourism tax, you still want to charge to a credit card. Location: 7 of the 20 rooms faces a road that has traffic noise even late into the night. The poor sound insulation of the rooms makes it susceptible to the traffic noise for rooms facing the road. This is make worst as into the quiet night, a lone vehicle zooms pass the hotel. If you are a light sleeper, avoid this hotel at all costs. Because this is a small hotel with a maximized layout, there are rooms next to the lobby toilet, and a few close to the staircase. The floors are tiled and not carpeted and noise cause by other guests movement travels. The only 2 rooms that has some form of noise insulation are rooms 19/20. Not to mention some rooms does not have windows. Security: the 3 rooms on the ground floor (room 1-3) facing the carpark is outside of the lobby and has no form of security except for 2 CCTV cameras. Basically just imagine your bedroom doors open to the carpark lots, if you have a concern for privacy n exposure avoid these rooms. This can be a concern for some. In addition, there are no night duty personnel (as stated in the notice) after midnight n anyone can access into the hotel as the front lobby door was never locked during our stay. For people driving and returning late, their car headlights will be shining into your room and the worst case may crash into your bedroom if they are highly intoxicated. Impossible is possible. I guess if you handicapped or cannot climb stairs, the carpark lot rooms will be the given choice. Maintenance: rooms are fairly maintained but some of the aging has started to show especially in the bathroom. This is less than 15yrs old hotel. Bathroom had hitec weird lighting colors… Pink, Green n White, wonder what’s the designer kinky intention. At RM300 per night excluding taxes, look for other better choices.

Comfortable room, some room has no outside view. We choose one with a view of Komtar. Comfortable bed. Need to request for iron and ironing board from reception, not kept in the room. Attractive interior decoration - a bit of old and new. Within walking distance to many places of interest and famous eateries.

Hi Irene, thanks for your kind review. We want the guest to have a feel of the heritage but all the more we want them to feel comfortable. So we invested a lot on a branded bed (Sealy) for all the rooms as well as organic soap and cushy slippers, and many more. Yes we are strategically located on a quite street. Lots of eateries... Glad you enjoy yourself here in Penang.

A well hidden gem of Macalister area within "walk minutes" of UNESCO heritage sites, KOMTAR and great food. It breathes "home sweet home" accommodation with a heritage and artistic feel coupled with experienced and top-notched client service by Mr. Johan .. just ask him anything related to Penang. Rooms offer good acoustics matched with excellent bed support ensuring well-rested nights after a day out. On-site free parking available. Suitable for casual and business travellers. Thank you, Johan for making our Penang trip a very memorable one, will certainly visit again on our next trip.

Celebrated a cracking NYE 2019 here and got a 'front row seat' to spectacular fireworks as the hotel is located in the city centre of George Town. And rejoice, fellow art lovers: the hotel is also tastefully decorated with art pieces by local artists.

Going over for the new year's countdown with friends, I can't help but to admire the beautiful decorations and ambiance of the hotel. It gives a rather grand yet pleasant and homely feeling. We celebrated the countdown at the open air lounge, which had a beautiful open view of the TOP, and witnessed the spectacular display or fireworks. On a side note the hotel managers were also very pleasant people and were great host.

The place is located in Georgetown and it's very near Komtar, so it's fairly easy to move around. The hotel is clean and I love the design as it has a fine combination of the old and new and art. The lobby has so many artworks! Some of them are pretty funky. I was there for the new year's fireworks with friends. This hotel has upstairs' outdoor place that we can sit and watch the fireworks. Pretty chill area. I have to say, this is probably one of the best place to watch the fireworks in Penang.
