Stayed at the Penaga hotel for 3 nights last week. Was not impressed. Other than a great location in Georgetown there is not much else positive to say. The accommodation was average. Spaciaious rooms with nice bathrooms and a nice outdoor jacuzzi. Lighting was quite dim throughout the entire apartment. Breakfast was poor. Every morning you're woken up by one of the workers opening some sort of shutters at the front of the hotel very loudly just outside the front doors at 7am. The gym and pool weren't much to talk about either, both very small. Staff were friendly and informative though

Dear Smirza0590, First at all, thanks for choosing our hotel as your accommodation in Penang! We are glad that you like the bathroom and Jacuzzi in our room and compliments for staff services. We are apologizes that some of the area was not up to your expectation. Of course for the lighting we are now in the midst to change the bulb to the higher watt in most of the rooms. We will have our team to look into the breakfast and also the opening shutter at the Clarke Terrace in the early morning . We are sincerely apologize for inconvenient caused to you during the stay. The gym and pool was made up this way (small) due to building structure itself and land area. However, we are look forward to welcome you back again in near future. Have a nice day ahead! :-)

Enjoyed staying here. Charming and authentic hotel with friendly staff and a decent location. Well appointed room with great bed and all you could ask for in the room. Good WiFi. Breakfast ok but could have more fresh fruit and non dairy options. Recommended.

The room was spacious which comfortable and clean bed plus a Jacuzzi to unwind after a long day. The hotel was situated at a strategic location within walking distance to all the highlights of Penang.

My family and I stayed in Clarke Terrace, what a lovely place! The building is old, needs maintenance, but that is what makes this place so characterful! Creaking floorboards, windows and doors which needed a bit of nudge to lock and unlock, the old solid wood front door, front door opens up to a private 5-foot way, outdoor jacuzzi, with a private garden at the back, wooden louvered windows, antique (or antique looking) cupboards and cabinets, large bathrooms, and a balcony overlooking the hotel. The terraces have lots of space to gather, out back in the private garden, more space to sit and chat, while we sipped tea. There's a well stocked up complimentary mini bar with soft drinks and snacks, plus 10 min neck and shoulder massage, and complimentary glass of wine, afternoon

We stayed here in July and loved the hotel and the area. The rooms are very comfortable and are decorated in a "Chinese Heritage" style that just suited the whole place. The only issue we had was the WiFi dropped out a couple of times but that sorted out very quickly. The staff were amazing - could not do enough to assist you - all very polite and helpful. The breakfast was excellent and we did eat in on a couple of nights too. The only negative we had was a limited dinner menu. Would stay here again,

We had a Hutton room. This was spacious and well furnished with period furniture. Cleanliness was good. Service was good but don’t expect a knowledgeable cocktail waiter! We didn’t try the small pool. We had a very enjoyable 1hr massage which was good value for money. The breakfast just average but adequate for our needs. The centre of Georgetown is just a short walk away so we didn’t eat in the restaurant. We had a superb 2hr tour of the sights in a trishaw - well worth doing as the driver acts as a good guide and ensures that you don’t miss anything. We were able to park the car just outside the front door of the hotel.

We stayed in a Hutton room for a couple of nights and we loved it. The hotel has been beautifully restored from existing colonial shopfronts and had a certain charm about it. It is strategically positioned near to the town centre. Check in was quick and efficient and they gave us lots of free extras (like free wine, massage and tea hour) which we unfortunately didn’t take advantage of. The room is spacious and comfortable - pity however that we couldn’t see outside. The toilet had a problem which was promptly resolved. The four poster bed was super comfy with good bed linen. Air con was quiet and worked well. The restaurant and bar served a good selection of food. I would happily stay there again!

The Good: central location, good safe area, heritage, lovely spacious rooms albeit in need of some TLC, complimentary mini bar, good shower and hot water, pool nice but v small and often no towels. The Not Very Good: please note that for the price this hotel is still a good deal but these are just things to be aware of ahead of your trip. Deteriorating buffet breakfasts, started off ok though not v tasty but barely warm one morning, stone cold today. Dry pastries, uncooked eggs whatever way you ordered them, inattentive staff and though not rude, certainly not friendly/welcoming or interested. Leaky ceiling after downpour, again staff not really interested and as far as we were aware the issue was not resolved. Afternoon tea terrible. Complimentary wine unpleasant at best. No

The location is nice. It is just walking distance to chulia street and love lane for night life. The rooms and hotel are very comfortable and it is a nice place to relax after a city tour of Georgetown. It has a vintage appeal. The bathroom is clean and nice. They have a small swimming pool, a welcome drink which could be a small glass of wine, a complimentary 10 minute massage. The breakfast is good but it would be better to have more choices. We've stayed here 3 times already and will come here again in the future.

Strength Location: Situated in the centre of Georgetown. Average 5 minutes by GrabCar or 10 minutes walk within hotel radius to many of the popular restaurants and attractions. Areas for improvement Building: Property in need of renovation. Examples are creaking wooden floor and unpleasant paint patches on wall. Not quite expected for the price paid. Room: We were staying at Hutton rooms. Old furnitures are used, I’m not sure if this was intentional but some are in need of repair as there are wood chipping and broken hinges. Suggest to management to review old furnitures to be compliant with Malaysia hotel industry Environmental, Safety and Health standards. Rooms are also not clean; examples are dirts found under bed and tv cupboards.
