Thanks a lot Mr. IRFAN !

Stayed here mid February.
What an amazing hotel, it is modern but still has that classic Penang charm about it.
Our room was delicious, just stunning.
Unfortunately we only stayed one night but I will definitely be back when I am in Penang next time.
The staff were friendly. Checking in to hotels in Malaysia generally is a slow process as was this but no real problems at all.
I didn't get a chance to check out the hotels amenities as I was out all night and checked out early the next morning, so I can't give you anymore feedback, sorry.
I think my photo of the room will tell you the rest!

We recently stayed 4 nights at the Hotel Penaga. The rooms were decorated with antique Malaysian furniture but had ultramodern bathrooms. The public rooms and the gardens surrounding the lap pool were lovely. The staff were very friendly and obliging and the reception staff, in particular, were very helpful with information on what to see etc. The hotel was only a few minutes walk from a main street where it was possible to catch the 'Hop on/hop off' bus which proved a great way to see some of the main sites of Penang. There were also restaurants a short walk away. Our rooms were at the front of the hotel so street noise was a bit of a nuisance, however, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Dear Anne_P562, Thank you for taking time to write us. We are glad that you have had an overall wonderful stay. We realise the issue with the street noise and will be commencing double glazing works in most of our rooms soon. We do not guarantee that it will work 100% but we certainly hope that our clients would appreciate the calmer environment. We look forward to your stay with us again soon. Regards Karen

I booked and paid thru Hotelopia.com for 4 rooms for 2 nights in Penaga Hotel from 14-16 Dec 2014. Overall stay was pleasant.
On check in ,I was asked to have my credit card imprint taken for misc charges , as rooms was already paid as confirmed at the Front Desk. We checked out of 16 Dec 2014 and Front Desk confirmed there are no outstanding bills to be paid. Well and good.
Three weeks later, my credit card with Citibank was charged for MYR 2,800.00. Citibank did not allowed it, but Penaga Hotel charged it anyway, on second attempt. I was advised by Citibank to cancel the card which i followed, causing me great inconvenience.
How was Penaga Hotel able to billed my cerdit card? I found out that it was thru the trick of asking for your card imprint, so they can charge you as they pleased , some weeks down the road. Totally unethical!
Lesson 1, do not allow less reputable Hotel, like Penaga to take credit card imprints from you.
Lesson 2, what you paid the website, the ones that are less reputable , be careful, as Penaga Hotel claimed they have no relationship with. Either Penaga and/or Hotelopia.com is not telling the truth.
My point is if Penaga Hotel have not being paid by Hotelopia.com,then they should inform me when we check in on 14 Dec 2014 and/or when we check out on 16 Dec '14.
But instead Penaga chose to take my card imprint from their Front Office Staff, which is meant for miscs expenses, as they clearly confirmed that hotel rooms has been fully paid,on check in and sneakily charged me again for rooms already paid for. This happens after 3 weeks.
This is to warn travellers not to take things for granted, esp when dealing with small hotels and less well known travel web providers. I have regularly used estd websites, like Expedia,Agoda, Booking.com,Amonna, Asiarooms etcs with no problems whatsoever.
Be forewarned!

Dear post2015, Dear Mr Saw, I sincerely apologise for the double charge situation. It was an oversight on our part, and was informed by the respective agent to "go ahead and charge". Admittedly, we should have called to verify with your goodself first, and we could have certainly handled this matter a lot better. I am still investigating with both the respective agent and my staff as to what has happened and will look into this immediately. Please note that it is NOT our common practise to charge clients this way as we have been in business for a long time. and have never been put in this situation. Please allow me some time to further investigate and clarify this. Please let me extend my personal apology and hope that you will have a big heart to forgive us. Regards Karen Tan

Saw the high ranking on TA and we booked the room for a weekend. The staff at the front desk are lovely and super friendly. The room is clean and well decorated in antique style. However, the room can be stuffy every time the aircon is off and a couple bathroom items were missing on the arrival and there was some water spilt on the floor. The biggest disappointment was the broken pool throughout our stay as its one of the reason we chose the hotel at the first place.

The Penaga Hotel puts themselves up to be one of the best hotels but oh how we disagree! The staff are absolutely clueless on any information you ask of them, only a couple can even speak moderately fluent English, and let's not get started on their customer service skills!!! - Very very poor!!! Especially from one particular staff member called Shoba who was very unprofessional in general. To be fair a couple of the other staff members did manage to smile & try to help us though. Cleanliness is average in the bathroom, but overall satisfactory. The room is a good size and decorated well. The bed however is literally a rock. To say the mattress is firm is an understatement. I had to use one of the pillows provided to lay on as I couldn't tolerate the firmness! The pool is a joke, it's like a baby pond but rectangular. Also situating it directly opposite to the restaurant is just plain awkward.
Try the food opposite the hotel (nasi kandar) it's yummy and cheap!
Pack a small towel with you when walking around as it can get very sweaty. It rains more than expected but the hotel does provide umbrellas. The location of the hotel is good, most things are walking distance (shopping centers, food places). Lastly you must go on a trick shaw ride - 1 hr is 35RN ask for Abdul from the hotel, he is contracted with them and is a really friendly guy who speaks good English.
Overall rooms are good but customer service and professionalism REALLY needs to be looked into!!

Travelers are doing their best to put Georgetown on the map for Malaysian tourism, but if this hotel's staff is representative of the efforts being put in by Malaysian's themselves, they get low points. The hotel is clean and well situated for the enormous amount of walking we did - Georgetown is a walking town. But the staff couldn't have been less helpful in giving us tips or help in where to go, what to do, etc. One particular young female desk person was a downright ogre about giving us any information about anything, from breakfast hours to getting a cab. Here's the deal: Georgetown is a a crazy, wacka-doodle place, but it's not beautiful and its historic colonial architecture is in advanced - I mean advanced - decay. Travelers who go there are making a big effort to participate in the possible re-birth of the town, which was initiated by the street art festival 2 years ago. Wake up Penaga hotel staff! You need to help make it easier, not harder, for guests to enjoy and appreciate the chaos of central Georgetown. Be friendly. Make recommendations. Suggest your favorite food hawker, or antique seller or wacky museum (really private collections that they call museums). Turn those awful sitting areas of yours into comfortable, inviting spaces. And that converted fountain you call a hotel swimming pool? Well, there's nothing you can do about that, but if you get the rest of it right, the pool will be just another enjoyable part of the crazy experience of Georgetown.

Transfer suites with balcony
without balcony(バルコニーなし)がありました。

I withdrew my original review as I felt that I had been a bit unfair to all the lovely staff we have encountered at this hotel. It is a lovely place, with employees (apart from one) who do try hard to please despite some lacking in knowledge.
Unfortunately we happened upon a snivelling receptionist on our arrival who lacked customer service and she set the tone. We also had lots of bags but as we entered the building the porters (were they porters?) seemed to disappear into thin air.
We were given a nice room (I suspect they are all nice here though) but literally over the road from the motorbike repair shop. The noise from the road, junction and the revving motorbike engines was too much. When we complained the receptionist didn't seem to care and just wanted to charge us more money to swop rooms. Eventually she seemed to magic a room on the same floor facing the side street, which was much better.
In terms of the staff she was a one-off though. The bar staff have been great, and tried to fill the gap of the non-existent concierge and always serve us with a smile, despite not having an idea of what is on the happy hour or how to process it on the till. I suspect this is lack of training as management are thin on the ground (to be fair, the catering manager we did see was always working hard). It turns out Wednesday night is ladies night and house pours are half price, which is a good deal.
My impression is that this is a nice hotel with lovely interior (bizarrely designed pool though!) but that the lovely staff need some better training.
It is indeed a noisy hotel even with the windows and shutters closed and the tops of the windows let in the light. So there almost seems to be a slight compromise for beauty over practicality. But I must be fair, the rooms are beautiful and come equipped with a jacuzzi bath, to take away those moans.
Anyway, if you want to stay here, I would still recommend you buy your own guide to Penang and make sure you bring your earplugs and eyemask (or perhaps when higher management resurface they could provide these?).
This is truly an exceptional hotel. The hotel is set on the crossroads of two busyish roads within walking distance of Georgetown.
The staff are extremely friendly and the customer services is as you would expect in 5* hotels. Breakfast is plentiful and of a high quality. The juices for example actually taste of the fruit not watered down as in many other hotels. The staff at breakfast are attentitive and will serve coffee and tea at your table.
The grounds are small but very attractive with the usual lush foliage. The swimming pool is about 10m by 4m and is set next to the restaurant, it has limited sunbeds.
The decor inside the hotel is gorgeous, a lot of money has been spent and the attention to detail is very high. The artwork on the walls may not be to everyone's taste but is tasteful and interesting.
We stayed in rm 11 in the inner courtyard after reading the reports of road noise. My partner is a light sleeper and had no issues sleeping. The bed was a four poster with a slightly hard mattress, the pillows perfect. Bathroom again is perfect with multijet power shower and jacuzzi bath.
I can't fault the attention to detail, from light switches to multi plugs (us, euro, gb).
The only downside is the slight road noise, but if you want to be close to the sights I'm not sure you could avoid the roads.

Hi Mr Yeo,
Please contact us directly for more details.
Thank You.
I think that you should contact the hotel and ask them. They are very helpful and will be able to answer that question for you. Have a great holiday. The Penaga is a great place to stay.
