Had a lovely two-night stay over Christmas. Was allowed to check in early and also got upgraded to a suite for being a bonvoy platinum member. The suite was gorgeous, with sumptuous views of Georgetown. The bed was comfortable. Water pressure bang on the money and the smart TVs meant we could binge on netflix like we were young again. The nespresso machine was also just the tonic.

The pool was delightful, and large enough for a good workout and the gym was sufficient too. Breakfast was ok but if I was paying for it, I'd give it a miss given the array of delicious food at your door step. And the location is convenient, being a short saunter to New Lane and a swag of other nifty kopitiam joints sprinkled around the traps.

The only let down was the parking situation. On both times we tried to exit, we found ourselves in a queue that snaked seemingly for miles. We felt like desperate refugees crowding Brandenburg gate after the Wall came down. Can't see why the front desk can't control the boom gate remotely when a customer has a ticket problem or else every sucker behind the offender has to wait too until the issue is sorted out.

Despite this mishap, I still look forward to returning when I'm back in Penang. I just won't bring a car!

I booked a Deluxe Room for my one night stay & was upgraded to Courtyard Suite due to my Platinum Elite status.

Check in was smooth & staffs were efficient. The lobby was a bit small to my preference but still functioning. They offered me complimentary breakfast for two or 10 USD F&B voucher or 500 points but I chose 10 USD F&B voucher.

Courtyard Suite was huge! It has a nice decor & layout. I love the fact that they have toilet for guests which is located besides the room entrance in the living hall.

I was given complimentary birthday amenities which included a slice of chocolate cake, fresh fruits & jeruk. Thank you for that.

For dinner, I ordered Courtyard Fried Rice & Black Glutinous Rice with Pandan Creme Brulee. The food was extremely delicious!

Overall, I am happy with my stay & will definitely come back again in future.

We stayed here for 10 days. Good location to get downtown, about a 30 minute walk or take Grab (usually less than 10RM). Good day and night markets nearby. Hotel staff quite friendly, rooms clean, beds comfortable. For laundry, there is a 24 hour place immediately next door (Polar Bear) that is quite reasonable. Titanium benefits at the hotel are excellent - Free breakfast, 40 RM credit each for two people, two free drinks each in the evenings. Staff in the restaurant are very friendly. Lina in particular is a real gem. Service from the room service staff is very good and prompt.

I returned here because of good experience in my previous stay. Just less than 4 months apart this hotel gave me completely opposite experience.

1. Water Leaking Faucet. Water dripped all the way from sink to towel storage and floor
2. I requested 6 bottles of drinking water 2 days in advanced and received confirmation from Courtyard on the same day.

I didn't request to change room because my previous good experience, I would expect everything would solved by the time I back to the hotel (i was away from 630pm to 12am) but I was WRONG. Not even single request was fulfilled. Even simple drinking water request.

Marriott should have better quality control.
1. Quality of service
2. Quality of room

How could the housekeeping not noticed the leaking faucet? Despite it's just courtyard, not other premium hotels under Marriott, the BASIC MAINTENANCE is still required, especially after being pointer out by an in-house guest! Either Courtyard in-house guest is totally not important to Marriott or this is the normal to Courtyard/Marriott.

Booked 2 rooms for our 4 days stay and have requested for an early check-in and connecting rooms as I've elderly parents. We arrive at 1:30 after a long drive from KL, but was told room wasn't ready. No complimentary drinks or seatings were offered and we had to go to a nearby cafe to kill time. Came back at 3pm and STILL the room wasn't ready and we were kept loitering in the small lobby area for another 20 minutes.

In the end, no connecting rooms for us and luggage took over an hour to be brought into our rooms. We could've just brought it up ourselves if we knew it took this long!

As mentioned in some reviews, ventilation is bad in the room especially smell from the bathroom. No ventilation fans or window openings whatsoever. Bed was hard as rock and we had to request at the reception next morning to have it sorted.
Pool was ok but lack of any hotel personnel.

F&B is a hit and miss everyday with staff fumbling about cleaning up tables and crossing paths with guests. On an occasion where there was spilt drinks at the juice counter, it took a long 45 minutes for someone to actually cleaned it up. No staff could be bothered despite many many frustrating calls from the guy manning the entrance to the restaurant calling housekeeping for help. Can't they just have at least a mop or basic cleaning equipment in the restaurant?

Truly a disappointing 'Marriot experience'

Only credit is to the ever so friendly reception team that has the best smiles and never says no to any request. Special mentioned to Mr. Chandran whom managed to really, truly single-handedly offered every guest with at least somewhat an experience worthy of Marriot. Just by him being helpful and chatty simply made our day.

For around RM500 per night, I'd give this place a pass the next time I visit Penang.

Hi Baldwin C, Firstly, thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. At the outset, allow me the opportunity to extend my most sincere apologies for your recent experience. I’m am deeply pained and sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay at Courtyard Penang. We strive to exceed expectations 24/7 and take your comments extremely seriously. It is never a pleasure to know that we disappointed a guest but I am always grateful for feedback so that we may learn and improve. I do notice your remark about the room assignments and apologize again, a cause of disappointment. We only have limited number of inter-connecting rooms and we strive to allocate this as best we can based on pre-arrival requests, and unfortunately on that day there were none available. I have taken your remarks about the room readiness time, room ventilation, and the operational glitches at breakfast very seriously and again, I apologize for the shortcomings. I’ve shared this with our teams and we are on the path to fixing these shortcomings. I was extremely heartened and thank you for your compliments towards our associate Chandran, I’m happy to know that he was friendly and took good care of you – just as it should be! We’ll be sure to pass along your compliments to him and you definitely made his day! Again, I am sorry to know that our service did not meet your expectation level. One of the newest hotel in town and we stayed here for a night to get some city experience after 2 nights in a beach resort in Teluk Bahang.

Arrival experience was good and staff were attentive seeing us unloading our luggage from the car. Area was a bit crowded with some discriminate parking entering the car park area but was quickly resolved by the security. Check in was quick, probably because all my details were available through Bonvoy membership. Took minutes to get my room key.

Room was clean, pretty large and comfortable. Great views of Penang city and we booked an interconnecting room as well due to kids growing up.

I have to say one of the best experiences of this hotel is their dining. The food served at Penang Kitchen was superb. Penang being a food haven, majority would go out and dine leaving this hidden dining gem in the hotel not explored. We decided to eat in due to Covid and to reduce exposure especially with young kids. Whoever stays at Courtyard must try their food there. Salmon laksa was amazing. A good variety of choices to fit both adults and young ones. Prices are so reasonable too for the quality of food you get.

Breakfast was also great and they were made to order with other sides and condiments on the buffet counter. This concept definitely reduces crowding at buffet counter and let guests sit down at their table.

Another hidden gem is their lounge or bar (I call it speakeasy bar concept) called The Gin Library located on Level 23. If you are a gin lover, you must try this. Many options of gin mixes done well by their f&b staff.

Overall this is a great hotel to stay. Staff were friendly all round from front desk to F&B. Attentive, friendly and courteous.

Would have been 5-star if not for the car park - it has zero cell service which is very dangerous. The hotel needs to fix this quickly or at least install easily accessible panic buttons. Also you need a touch n go card to access the car park they do not dispense manual tickets. Took me a minute to figure out when first arrived. Maybe a better signage will help. They have a machine at the valet side which will validate the TNG card when you leave.

Aside from the above everything else went well. I was initially worried as there were some negative comments here but all were unfounded. Yes they have a new and young set of crew but this means they always try their best, polite and radiated positive energy. The room was splendid, everything clean and in order. The food from Penang Kitchen ordered through in room dining - one of the best in terms of quality, taste vs the price paid.

All in I would say the hotel clearly has Marriott signature and quality all over, they are new so give them a bit of understanding there, but they need to fix the car park cell reception quickly.

Check-in was painfully slow, rooms were not ready till 4pm. Front desk staff seemed clueless.

Asking rate is comparable to St Regis KL. No recognition of my Titanium Elite status nor any upgrades, was assigned two lower level rooms.

I booked two rooms under their Family Escape package which includes breakfasts for both rooms (Titanium Elites are entitled to free breakfast but i didn't even bother to rely on this) but ended up being charged for breakfast for both rooms.

The last straw was their breakfast restaurant manager, a Malay man named Irmi (spelling could be wrong as I got his name verbally from the Duty Manager over the phone upon calling to complain after checking out). There was a free table for 4 available which I moved towards but Irmi stopped me and rudely said "it's taken". His subordinate then motioned us to a tiny table for 2, when there was clearly 4 of us. Throughout our entire 30 minutes there no one occupied the table, towards the end they let a single guest sit there. I gathered Irmi was too lazy to set the table as there was only cutlery for one person. Irmi could be seen pandering to Caucasian guests in the meantime, oblivious to our family of 4 crammed in a tiny table set for 2.

The most overpriced Courtyard out there. First and last stay.

We took an opportunity for a one night break at this recently opened hotel. Being Bonvoy members got us a very good deal for a room and breakfast. Nothing to fault in this hotel with lovely new rooms and quality fittings throughout. The restaurant was also a nice experience for both our evening meal and breakfast. We have even been back for lunch since our stay which again did not disappoint.
I think the one consistent impression is the friendliness of the staff. Right through from security and the much appreciated strong SOP for Covid19, check in staff, and particularly the staff in the restaurant really made us feel special. Thankyou Selva and GM Subash for a nice break.

Fairly new hotel and clean,, decent location. This hotel does not have an executive lounge. Elite members should have their breakfast foc at the cafe on the ground level and not offset their 500 welcome points for the free breakfast. Breakfast variety is decent.
