We were there recently in Dec 2019 for breakfast on a weekend. But it was disappointing as there were only lilke 2 restaurants open for breakfast. And none served an English breakfast. It is a shame as I would guess many customers would like to have a good fry up on a lazy weekend.

Needed to go to Penangpac for a theatre production and booked a suite for the cast to stay as back up in case other accommodation didn't come through. It eventually did, but the Agoda company operating the apartments said they would not allow cancellation since it was a special offer rate and I would have to pay the entire three night booking. Hmm. Not customer friendly. Since the location suited us, we put up and shut up. But would not happily book through Agoda again. Next time we will find a place that takes direct bookings. Or at least one that has a better policy for cancelling. We saw a few on the main road offering at RM100 compared to the RM400+ for Agoda's special. The Tanjung Beach Resort should reopen soon after its renovation. Maybe it will offer a better deal. Or stay at the E&O hotel. They have free shuttles to Straits Quay.

The one bedroom suite will sleep five people, three in the bedroom and two on couches in the TV area. It was clean and quiet and well located. Though a bit hit and miss for checking in. You need to find the operator who walks up and down the Mall entrance hoping to be noticed by people looking to check in. Big fridge, cooker, free bottled water and wifi with coffee and tea and someone to come in and clean. Big TV with DVD player but no Cable TV. No microwave. Also no place in Straits Quay to buy food - need to go to the Tesco which is a hot and sweaty 15 minute walk away. A verandah overlooked by some building meant that drying clothes outside was impossible and a magnet for mosquitoes. Got a pool and fitness centre which we didn't visit.

Location wise, you're pretty stuck at the Straits Quay without a car. Taxis abound, but it is a good distance to Penang centre, and traffic can be slow given the road system. Fine for a family getaway, but not for people looking to experience Penang in its historical glory.

This is The Straits Quay Suites and NOT the E&O Hotel. The hotel has the potential to be really great, but they're really really rough around the edges. For starters, the 'check-in' concierge had no idea what road they were on or where to park our car for closest access to the counter. Claimed wifi available, but was down for the 5 days that we stayed there. Keys were not properly filed meaning it could take you 2 seconds to open it or 5 minutes. Kitchenette is cool but no amenities or plates or cups. No major showstoppers, but all these shortcomings do add up. Thankfully we got this room on offer so it took a lot of the bite out of this review, if we paid full price, i'd be plenty pissed. The room was nice and spacious with decent furniture and we had a nice balcony attached to it. To be fair to the management, they were extremely apologetic about some of the shortfalls and tried to make amends on it.

Large spaces, well appointed, great potential but clearly not cared for.
Lacking in any sense of hospitality and blatant disregard of standards or guest experience.
Described as ‘brand new’ they are clearly not, and obviously wear & tear, maintenance and upkeep budgets have been ignored.

We followed the E&O hotels recommendation to stay at the Straits Quay Marina where they operate a number of suites while the hotel was fully booked. To be honest, we have never heard about the development there and were a bit cautious in the beginning. The charming lady at the phone convinced us after a short while. The main reason for our decision was the proposal to stay in a 2 bed room suite with the whole family and to mention the price is more as reasonable.

Arriving in Penang, we were still a bit insecure if we have done the right decision. However, from the moment of the pick up from the E&O Concierge at the airport to the professional transportation service, the warm welcome at the Concierge Office at Straits Quay and finally arriving in the suite... all was superb! The suite is spacious and modern in its facilities. You have a more as sufficient kitchen area. The suite is super clean...and the look outside your window down on the Marina is just amazing!!!! We loved it from the very first moment.

The service provided by E&O is as well extra ordinary... we had the choice to get every day a breakfast box or to use the transport to the E&O hotel to enjoy the breakfast there. Being in holiday, we used of course the second option. What did we find? A real great breakfast... wide range of food... fantastic view on the street of Malacca.. charming professional service... yes, that's life and that's a high class standard.

Beside this is the lovely E&O concierge team to mention who took really care of us. They organized everything that we have asked for... you cant do it better! They even offer a free shuttle from Straits Quay to the E&O hotel or the second property Lone Pine ( Batu Ferringhi).

As a tip... around the Marina there is a lifestyle mall... not too many shops (it's not a shopping mall)...but a lot of different restaurants for every kind of taste. We like to highlight especially the Delicious restaurant which is directly at the sea.... wide range of food... great quality and a sense-making price quality level.... and attention...these desserts... gosh they are not only yummy... they are massive and ... well every penny worth you pay.

Overall... we can only recommend the Straits Quay Suite as well as the E&O hotel team.

This place is such a lovely surprise in Penang!
We drove into this place by chance. It has a fantastic location, on the ocean front. One can see the mainland in the distance.
Loads of great restaurants, pubs with german beers and a small bay for parking ones yatchs!

This place lets out service apartments and I think it would be a great place to stay with kids or even for a relaxing escape..

Straits Quay Suites are located within the Straits Quay marina and shopping complex. We stayed on the 6th floor looking over the pool. The other side looks towards the marina. The apartment had one bedroom, two bathrooms, a kitchen with stove, hotplates and all the necessary cooking utensils. There was a washing machine and the furniture was minimalistic. There were two TV's but the reception was such that it was unwatchable. Talking to others it appears that even if the reception was okay, there is only one English channel and that is very ordinary. There is also a balcony. The airconditioning worked fine and the fans made it quite comfortable.
Straits Quay is a bit of a ghost town, for the first week we thought we were the only ones living there, then to our surprise someone got in the lift with us. The retail area is also very quiet. there is a big pool and gym. It an easy walk to Tesco down the road, but if you want better food and wine go to Cold Storage at Island Plaza, about a 20 minute walk. The bus outside is the 102 but it is elusive so we found it is best to walk to Tesco and catch the 101 outside, to go to Georgetown it costs 2 ringet each. The Viva hawkers market is about a 20 minute walk, go to Tesco and turn right for about 1 km.

Pros
1. Nice layout and comfortable bed and come with 2 bathroom ( 1 at living hall & other at bedroom) can accomodate upto 5 person with 2 single beds, 1 day bed and 2 sofa beds.

2. Free Wifi a plus point of the suite.

3. Superb fast for the check-in and check-out.

4. A quick and resourceful facilities briefing.

5. Shop and eat within walking distance

6. Nightlife and bars within the premises

Cons
7. No free parking (even RM 1 per entry is a pull back to hotel guest)

8. No breakfast inclusive (another pull back for the suite)

9. Dusty room and slow room service (with just a simple request for additional towels and floor maps, need to call for more than 3 times and waiting time of 30 mins)

10. A great idea to provide hotel guest with the mobile phone but it is not available in the suite nor given to me during the briefing.

Great location and comfortable suite but poor management might keep the guest away.

We had stayed in this property for three nights. The suites are very spacious, well decorated and were furnished with anything that a traveler may need for a long stay- two toilets(One with a bath tub), large TV, Cooking range, all utensils for cooking, hair dryer, iron, ironing table and lots of storage space.Cleanliness was superb. There is plenty of parking area and a marina for the yachts attached to it.A large swimming pool is located at the 3rd floor level. The lobby and entrance areas is better than many 5 star hotels. The shopping mall was fabulous and there were quite a few restaurants. The staff was quite courteous. I would prefer to stay in this property than in any 5 star hotel
