I stayed here for a couple of nights, had another booking in town, and then came back for the rest of my stay in Penang. It was like coming home! I love the place. It’s casual, it’s beautiful, the location couldn’t be better, and it’s very reasonable. The staff is lovely, the owner is great, my room was sparkling clean, and the whole place is a feast for the eyes!
So unique place. The walls and the decoration reminded me of a mix of Alice in wonderland, a boutique French hotel and imperial China with an indoor/outdoor feeling. Kent the owner is very friendly and helpful. Helped out with tickets to Thailand to a paradise island on his recommendation instead of our original plan of langkawi, also helped with all our queries and went out of his way to assist. All staff on the premises where very friendly. There’s several hang out areas such as the cafe and a library full of books. There’s a shop too where you can buy some cool postcards and art. All rooms are unique where some are small with steep stairs, others with tiny bathrooms and one with a balcony and the other not but it’s all part of the charm and made it even more unique. If you are a couple, traveling alone or even a family (had family rooms too) I highly recommend this place. In addition, comfortable beds, warm shower and good water pressure :)…
Stayed for 2 nights. The moment i step into the place, it feels like home.. aesthetic decor and warm hospitality.. The owner, Kent is super nice and friendly.. definitely will stay here whenever im in penang..
We didn't stay here but we ate a tremendous "home style" Chinese meal which was the best food we ate in Georgetown. Lots of character and friendly. The chef chose the food for us and it was all delicious.
This accommodation was one of our favorite ones in Malaysia. The house looks very nice, it's clean, the owner is extremely friendly and helpful. The housekeeper did our laundry fast and cheap, everything perfect. It is located in the centre, so everything is close to reach by foot.
This is a pretty unique place to stay. Lots of character and interesting little nooks to sit around in in the public areas. The location is excellent - close enough to all the action on Love Lane and Chulia Street to be convenient but just far enough away to not be bothered by the noise. Everywhere in the Old Town is within easy walking distance. The owner, Kent, is a really nice guy who will give you all kinds of useful information about where to visit and eat. I'd stay here again!
Despite the price this was a very disappointing experience. Grubby mattress on the floor, open hole which subsequently led in a tonne of mosquitoes, ladder going through the open hole into the "seating area" (disgusting deck chairs facing a wall) and "bathroom" (toilet with showerhead above it). We left after 1 night and checked into a proper hotel down the road for a cheaper price (go figure). No idea how there are so many 5 star reviews.
I stayed here recently. To be honest doesn’t worth the price that I paid. Bathroom drainage stucked. I think with this price you can get better room with more facilities. There is no bed is just a mattress. Extremely Kampung. If I paid less I wouldn’t get disappointed this much. But rm 100++ that shouldn’t be the room amenities.
This is a great place. It is a heritage hotel in a heritage site so don't expect big rooms or any fancy shenanigans. Just a nice and cozy, well maintained place with great atmosphere and an owner who cares. Kent was great and had many recommendations for what to eat and where to go.We had left our glasses in the room and he was kind enough to send them all the way to Cambodia completely free of charge. This is the kind of friendly service that makes you want to come back to a place again and again. We will definitely recommend MonnTree to our family and friends.
Charming, Georgetown building centrally located. Kent, the friendly owner, has done an amazing job of creating some unique charming spaces in this classic building. I stayed in the back in a loft with an open upstairs bath and small table. Lush with a tropical walkway. But sadly, the bright but peeling paint upstairs, a persistent smell of mildew throughout, 2 graying, rag "bath" towels never replaced over 3 nights, questionable bedding with one sheet, and absolutely no room clean-up by 2 service women who basically sit around all day left me feeling more like I stayed in a neglected vision of Cool than a unique Boho-Local Color hostel. The downstairs spaces have a sweet antique'ish atmosphere, but feel overstocked as in a warehouse sale. Suggest Kent thinned some out tables and create a common sofa space by the skyway-garden pool as my and neighbors' rooms were too small to hang out Ken plays great music and I can see more folks drinking and kibitzing here. But as it is, I wouldn't stay here again... …
