Multi award winning Campbell House has been on our "to visit" list for years. Finally got to stay there this week and can-not recommend the place highly enough. The attention to detail and passion owners Nardya and Roberto have lavished on the establishment are evident even before you step through the front door. Their hard work and dedication have kept this gem of a hotel afloat during the trying times of the last few years. The luxurious rooms and harmonious decor will not fail to please the most discerning guests. Then there is the food, authentic Italian at its very best. Not to mention the great service, friendly, hardworking staff and prime location in the very heart of George Town. I could go on and on .....
By far the best place to stay in Penang. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. We were given a welcome drink so delicious we could have drank an entire pitcher of them. Since we arrived a great deal earlier than check in, they held our bags for us and even recommended some things to do in the surrounding area to pass the time while they got our room ready. We took their recommendation and were not disappointed! When we arrived back, we were shown to our room. The first things you notice in this hotel is the historic feel. They have done an excellent job making you feel like you’ve stepped back into another time when staying at a hotel was supposed to be a personal experience not just a place to lay your head. We felt right at home. The room had antique furniture, beautiful finishes, and luxury bath products. The hotel has done away with single use plastics so all of the products are full sized, it is a nice touch to an already luxurious experience. The room was spacious with beautiful soft light coming in from the colorful glass window panes. Our room came with coffee, tea, glass bottle of drinking water, and a delicious iced lemon tea…all replaced daily. If you have the opportunity to stay in the Rose Room we highly recommend it. Breakfast at the hotel is an experience unlike any other property we’ve stayed at. It is served down stairs, the restaurant has an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are in a movie. The food is unparalleled in quality and you will not leave hungry, we can assure you of that. From fresh fruit, to home made breads, to main courses that rival some of the best breakfast restaurants we’ve been to. This is by far the best hotel breakfast we have had or will have. In closing, this is a must stay off you are coming to Penang! We can’t wait to come back!…
We had a truly lovely stay in the Campbell House. It not only is a beautiful property, well designed and decorated, but more importantly the staff were all incredibly welcoming and attentive. I would highly recommend it to anyone who would like a high-quality experience for a very affordable price.
Great service, warm and friendly staff, beautiful and clean rooms. Easy access to George Town Heritage sites. Owners were very accommodating! Love how they had restored and preserved the heritage building!
Nice hotel in a very central location. Room was very nice, tastefully dine in traditional style. Nice bathroom with amenities. Fridge was filled daily with water, milk and ice lemon tea, and a treat. One point to mention - shouldn’t advertise free mini bar - it isn’t a bar as there’s no alcohol. Nice terrace at the top. Food all around near the hotel, market round the corner, plenty of choice. No private parking, just street parking
You wouldn't think that you could find a cosy, well-appointed room in the middle of Georgetown with truly thoughtful service and amenities, but the Campbell House is what I consider to be a hidden gem. It's located very centrally in Georgetown, just down the road from the famous Hamideeyah nasi kandar (which always has lines) and is great for tourists that plan to walk around Penang a lot. It's also easy to get a Grab for further places, we never had trouble catching one while we were there. I booked the Opium room specifically because it's one of the few that has a bathtub and it was beautiful. Lots of room, a lovely bathtub, L'Occitane amenities and a tiny fridge that was always filled with water and ice lemon tea. They even had rose petal decorations for my partner's birthday, and every night they left us a little something in the fridge for turndown - we loved the orange cake and the pear tart. The spaces within the hotel are also very nicely appointed - the reading area for relaxation and the veranda to hang out with friends. Il Bacaro, the hotel's restaurant, was always full in the evenings when we were there - we had a delicious prawn risotto and pizza, and Nardya, Roberto and team surprised my partner with a tiramisu for his birthday! Service was always, consistently friendly and thoughtful, so major kudos to the Campbell House team for that - you feel like their friends rather than just customers. Overall, highly recommend Campbell House and would return again. Things to note: parking is not provided by the hotel, there is a public parking bay on the road behind but the overnight charges can be quite steep - might be better to remove the car before midnight and park on the road, then pay with the Penang parking app before 8am.…
This was our first holiday with our 6months old son. We took the 2 Night "ITALIAN INDULGENCE" With Dinner Package. The hospitality team both at the hotel as well as the restaurant was amazing. The room decorations is awesome, I may come back just to stay at another room - with a different theme. We really enjoyed the breakfast & the Italian Tasting dinner was memorable - I’m trying to recreate the Spaghetti alle vongole at home. An improvement point that the management may look at is the build quality of some of the room fittings in our case was the door lock which always stuck & shower head which leaks.
Our stay was perfect and felt like home in Penang. Nardya, Roberto, Hema, and the whole team provided us with warm hospitality in the beautiful Campbell House. We were all pleasantly surprised at the complimentary dessert banana cake and Panna cotta provided in the room minibar, it was nicely done and delicious. The refreshments drink on the arrival was a great touch to ease our tiredness from the long hour's drove. The room was clean, fresh scent, neat, and well-arranged in such an appealing presentation, it is extremely important during the pandemic. We felt safe during our stay. They are using the full size of L’Occitante amenities to reduce plastic waste too. It is a great way to protect Mother Earth. The Campbell house is located in a strategic location and is easy to access to the main area in Penang. We will come back again.…
Stay only for one night, but the hospitality of the staff were superb from the time we entering the place for check in until we check out. By the way there is restaurant name Il Bacaro, under the same building (maybe same owner?not sure), the dishes were perfect for me, especially the dishes that the waiter suggested for me Rigatoni Cacio Pepe (still thinking about it until now). Might come later again for another staycation 😁😁
We chose Campbell House for a Penang staycation and are so happy that we did! Living in Penang, we have been fans of the hotel’s restaurant, Il Bacaro, for years, but this was our first time staying in the hotel. It was even better than we expected. Our room was beautifully furnished, with extraordinary and welcome attention to detail of the kind we rarely find in Malaysia. It was quiet, calm, and the bed was luxuriously comfortable. The staff were helpful, friendly, welcoming and responsive when needed but unobtrusive when not. We highly recommend it!
