We decided to try out this hotel restaurant as we had heard some good things about it. It serves excellent bonus food and you are surrounded by exquisite antiques. The service was very good and the food was excellent. For those who want to try Straits Settlement food this is a must visit

Had a birthday dinner here with my family and we were very pleased with the whole experience. The building's architectural concept was preserved in this heritage enclave . Food was okay albeit the portions, which was rather small. Anyway, we had a good time taking some photographs in this unique boutique hotel.

This hotel was originally several Peranakan houses in a row. The interior, furniture and decor are elaborate and beautiful. I enjoyed the stay here with great friendly service and perfect location near famous eateries and Unesco heritage zone. Highly recommended!

We arrived at the hotel on a hot afternoon. We were greeted with a cool refreshing and welcomed drink and a smile. The receptionist asked us to sit down and relax whilst she dealt with our check in. She then informed us that she was giving us a free upgrade due to some renovation work and an upcoming wedding. They...

This heritage hotel is everything you imagine an old Straits house to be: wooden furniture, beautiful decor, high ceilings. Yes, you need to climb upstairs to get to most rooms, but really, there's no harm in walking up and down (if you are able to). The only reason why our stay was not perfect was that the breakfast was not...

A fabulous piece of architecture with beautifully decorated rooms. This is a very special building and it's great it has been so well restored and operating as a hotel. HOWEVER...running it as a hotel seems to present some problems for the owners. Breakfast is practically non existent, cake one day and usually just noodles the others. The staff tried hard...

This hotel is in many ways a contradiction: locals talk about it respectfully as the restaurant is considered best in class. We think it is most expensive in class. However, we agree with the locals that the chinese museum-like 1881 style hotel with antiques et cetera is second to none charming. But if you stay - like us - more...

The place had absolutely stunning interior and furnishing of the rooms allowed to envisage different era. Really interesting and beautifully renovated courtyard too. But service was very average, when we asked them to clean a room at certain time we came back and room was not cleaned yet. Then there was one evening when a celebration was going on downstairs...

The 1881 Chong Tian Hotel is one of those truly magical, unforgettable hotels. In a developed country this would be a luxury boutique hotel charging astronomical prices. In Malaysia it is accessible to mere mortal hotel-goers. The property itself is a lovingly restored set of nineteenth century "Chinatown" style townhouses tastefully decorated with lovely antiques. The rooms are similarly (if...

We recently spent 2 nights/2 rooms in Chong Tian. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the old town. However, we were not happy with the overall cleanliness and management of the place. For the price one would expect a clean bathroom floor (was extremely black and dirty), good towels (ours had seen better days), reasonable furniture (seats...
