Stayed 3 night in the Presidential Suite (Room 1 & 7 connecting). Upon arrival at the hotel about 4pm, the staff who greet us seems unsure about our booking. We would expect our rooms to be ready as it was already 4pm, however, the staff told us to have some tea at the reception area till 10 mins later, I...

I stayed in the hotel as my original booking was cancelled at the last moment and I had to seek refuge somewhere late night. The hotel is conveniently located near the markets and culture hubs of Penang. The staff is courteous and welcoming. The interiors are beautifully maintained and are tastefully decorated. The room was huge with all wooden furniture...

1881 was a random find walking in from the street. Georgetown is mostly full of cheap hostels and we were searching for a hotel of slightly higher caliber in the center of all the action. The location is perfect and we found it to be a true gem in the hostel jungle. We were warmly greated and offered delicious jasmine...

I stayed here for 2 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is down a quiet side street in the heart of town, and I love the unique décor of the rooms - wonderful Chinese furniture, bedding etc. - anything but bland! If you're looking for a room that feels like it's part of some grand old home rather...

We stayed here for three nights over Christmas and although there were none of the traditional decorations (it is very Chinese) it was perfect. Everything associated with UNESCO heritage is within walking distance and we never used the car at all. The food was well presented and the staff were delightful. We shall return!

First impressions are very important. Due to an error in booking during Marathon weekend, we were not able to stay at chongtian for the first night. Prior to the trip Caroline, the manager, called me to apologize for the issue. She immediately assured us we'd be picked up at the airport and brought to another hotel and that the costs...

My mother & I stayed for 4 nights. We enjoyed the old world charm (this started out as a purpose built hotel since 1881) and the welcoming staff. We stayed in two rooms, both were very very spacious, the room on the top floor had extremely high ceiling, and also flooded with lights through both windows & light wells. The...

Stayed 2 nights (too long) at this hotel; to be fair - am not a fan of heritage boutique hotels but had no choice as all our other top picks for hotels were fully booked due to the year-end holidays. Paid RM300+ p/room p/night for the last room (Room #4) at 1881, only to find a badly-lit broom cabinet of...

Small boutique hotel smack in the heritage trail. Ideal location for a short 2-3night stay. Didn't manage to have a glimpse of the rooms tho. Heard about this interesting hotel and stayed a few days. The decor is authentic and you get really beautifully decorated rooms. Service is good and location very convenient to the town centre. FThe restaurant food is very good too. Will come back to try the other rooms too. Highly recommended for unique experience.
