The George, Penang, a five-storey, 92 key boutique hotel, is located in the UNESCO Heritage enclave of George Town. It is built in the style of Georgian era architecture to echo the colonial charm of 18th Century British public buildings which can be found around George Town’s Farquhar and Light Streets. The George draws inspiration from the European Renaissance Revival, which in turn has its roots in ancient Greek and Roman structures. The architectural style includes the aesthetics of symmetry, with many sturdy columns, multiple long glass windows and glass doors which bring in natural sunlight to the interior, grand balconies, higher ceilings and decorative stone vases. The colour of pristine white is predominant in the hotel's exterior, as are all buildings in the Georgian tradition. The hotel name, "The George”, is an allusion to the era Penang was founded, a nod of respect to the then reigning monarch, King George The Third, of the British Empire. Captain Francis Light founded and named George Town after his king in 1786. The hotel has a red Morris Cooper parked outside with the number plate 1786 as a reminder of historical Penang's founding year. The George Penang architectural structure is reminiscent of George Town's British legacy, a unique feature which has won the city a UNESCO World Heritage Site status since 2008.
The location was good. Nearby attractions and eateries but the hotel service was lousy. Reception was cold, unfriendly. I called for housekeeping several times but nobody answer the call. I asked for 3 bottles of mineral water but the staff said only can give 2 so I had to call again to get more… 2 each time, really stupid. The room sliding toilet door cannot close. Actually bad design. Only consolation was the location. For the price we pay, I expected more.

Had a wonderful experience in this hotel. The hotel is newly built thus in good condition, I do hope they can maintain it well as the rain shower is having leaks. The breakfast is a good choice in view of the extra price I had paid. The pool is long enough for laps and due to low usage, I was able to swim laps and the steam room and changing room is very clean. Will be good to post a sign to collect the pool towels. I do hope they can maintain the hotel well so that I can return soon

This is a new boutique hotel situated in the middle of town where eateries are well within walking distance. The rooms are bright and generally clean. It has a compact reception area that is manned by 2 desks. It was quietly efficient and that’s important. I took a Junior Suite on the 3rd floor where the bath gel was missing from the toiletries provided. Other than this minor hiccup, the balcony seemed to have some manner of water ponding after a downpour. The elevator buttons are also poor in contrast and doesn’t make selection an easy task. I took a dip in the lap pool one morning and found that there were no towels provided. Obviously not many people use the pool here. As for breakfast, you can give it a miss as there are so much options around the hotel. This is assuming you are not in a hurry. So why the 5 star ratings? Aside from these very minor points mentioned , the room was really great value for the price paid. In short, I would stay here again. Of course, if they fixed the above issues, I guess I may have to pay more the next time I come over.…

We stayed for a night at The George Hotel's Colonial Suite. The room is amply spaced and like the rest of the hotel, very tastefully decorated. The most amazing thing about it is the ultra massive balcony! The location is also superb, being right in the middle of historic Georgetown and walking distance from Love Lane and Lebuh Campbell. The only thing I wish during our stay was for us to have stayed longer. Definitely five star.

Horrible experience there is a club next door that you can hear the base and music from Your room on the second floor. Do not stay over the weekend. The room was quite sparse and minimal, check in was slow and nothing too special with the amenities

I rarely writes review of the hotels I visit, but this one deserve an ecception. The hotel has a perfetct location: near enough to the city nightlife to go there in few minutes walking, but far enough to experience quiet and peace during night. The hotel building is beautiful and so is the furnishings; the staff is always present and attentive, but discreet. Indeed one of the best hotel experience I have ever had.

We booked this last-minute. This exceeded our expectations. On arrival we were able to get parked in their underground car park. The friendly concierge offered us an upgrade and let us see the room in advance - a beautiful duplex with two bathrooms and a balcony. They also offered advice on where to eat and provided wine glasses, a cork screw and ice buckets when asked. The pool was suitably cooling and towels are provided. We love the location: next to Little India and China Town. Lots of bars and eateries to go to at night. Perfect location for exploring George Town. Our balcony overlooked the bustling town. Shower was warm and powerful and toiletries provided. Only gripe was a room for four only included two breakfasts with an additional charge of 75rm per person. However, the positives outweigh the negatives. The door man also super attentive. A lovely hotel. Will definitely come back and recommend to friends.…

This hotel is brand new which opened end dec 22 and it shows as the rooms are still in very good condition. The lobby is big, airy and the blastmof cold air when walking in from the hot weather is awesome. Staff are super friendly and kudos to the front desk and the security who always helps with the doors whenever my friend and i return from our daily numerous trips out. I booked the executive twin and it comes with a sofa bed which can comfortably fit 2 kids less than 1.5m and below as 1 can sleep on top and 1 on the floor pull out. The room is very spacious (online it states its 391 sq feet). Bathroom has a single sink, toilet with japanese bidet (so if you love that functionality... 😀) and a spacious shower. My 1 and only critique of the bathroom is that the hooks for the towels are not well placed vs the opening/ closing of the shower door as one has to walk out dripping to get the towels. Amenities like soaps, toothbrushes, comb, shower gell, hairdryer etc all provided. Bed was super comfortable. Not too soft nor too hard. For my friend and i, it was just right. Super comfy. 2 pillows each with a spare at the cabinets. Room comes with a table and a single chair but no led light but rather the orange fluorescent light from the cieling. Take note there is no bluetooth speaker provided so bring your own. Aircon was strong enough too so thats a good thing. Swimming pool is on the 2nd floor and its saltwater. Not many people use it and there is no view to speak of but its sheltered so rain or shine, you can swim!! Bfast is included in our rate and its the usual standard hotel buffet with egg station, milk ,2 or 3 types of cereals, bread area with toast, jam spreads, peanut butter, salads, about 7 to 8 hot food items, congee and noodles with condiments.. freshly brewed coffees. Its nothing to shout about but if you dont know where to go or lazy then it is good enough. Now the best part of this hotel is its location. Its chefs kiss. 2 min walk to Toh Soon cafe, 3 to 4 min walk to Il bacaro, 3 min walk to the perenakan restaurants across the road via a shortcut, 1 min to Siam Paradise massage, 10 mins to wheelers/mugshot and chulia street Hawkers. I mean its all there within walking distance. 5 min grab car to Him Heang for the biscuits, 7 to 10 min grab to gurney plaza/paragon. Will i come back again? yes. The location followed by the stellar service of the staff just sells this place. Of course the room being lovely is an added bonus. My friend and i will be back!! Its a matter of when!…

Stunning stunning hotel in the heart of Georgetown. I have been to Georgetown many times and stayed at its many heritage accommodation offerings. The George on Penang Road is the newest kid on the blocking having opened its doors in December 2022. Like its siblings in the business the George is a conversion of a heritage building but while the others concentrate of showcasing Penang’s rich cultural heritage , the interiors at the George are minimalist & modern. The hotel exudes a cool, fresh vibe and offers a variety of well-appointed rooms. Other facilities at the George include an onsite restaurant, a bar, a decent sized lap swimming pool with a sauna room. The hotel has a car park equipped the parking cages enabling it to expand capacity if needed.
