Value
Immerse yourself in a unique cultural experience, 'living like a local' in one of George Town's few true homestays, in a family's rustic wooden home on stilts at the Chew Jetty, a unique heritage community nestled on the city's waterfront. Right on the water’s edge of the heritage city of George Town, the Chew Jetty is a unique settlement consisting of 88 rustic wooden family homes linked by a long walkway, starting from the shore and jutting out onto the water. In existence since the 1880s, and one of seven remaining clan jetties, the Chew Jetty is unique in that the residents all share the same Chinese surname. Ours is a wooden house fronting the main walkway, roughly in the middle of the Chew Jetty. You will be staying in 1 of 5 rooms in our family house, out of which only 3 rooms are for homestay guests. You will be getting a cozy DOUBLE ROOM in the middle section of the house, with a small window on its side. The room is air-conditioned, and also has a wall fan, and is furnished with a queen-sized bed. We have a bathroom shared by all in the house, and it comes with instant hot shower and sitting toilet. Our living room, dining hall and our back and side open decks are available for your use.

Live in a vacation house in chew jetty is the best experience that ever had. The family is funny, kind and helpful. Nearby there got a nice bar where you can go have a drink. A place that is near to the town area and bus station. Out of the jetty there will be a lot of local foods to eat.

I've just recently spent 2 days at My Chew Jetty Homestay. I have to say that my family and I felt very at home as the owner treated us like a family. The home stay has all the necessities, and convenience. A totally different experience in a positive manner

This is an interesting place. I used to see this place for many years from the ferry going to school to Penang but did not think to visit it but the time my wife who's Finnish wanted to visit the place. As we took the free bus from Komtar to Weld Quay it was only a short walk from there. Firstly one sees the temple on the outside before one goes into the village. It's very interesting the way people live. There's a bit of smell but I guess the residents are used to it. Everything looks very clean. They have a jetty in there too. I suppose some fishermen live there too. Motorcycles are the other popular means of transports. The homes are very tradional in that they all seem to have the alter in the front room. Plenty of little shops selling all sorts of things including food. Really worth a look. Sorry did not check out the home stay bit.

Friendly and very welcome by owner (Chew family), located on historical area.
And good to know they (Chew jetty) still keep the culture and stay united to protect it.

Very clean environment and superb comfortable room.
Free coffee/tea and fruit available while enjoying great sea view.

In walking distance, you can get very nice local food(breakfast,lunch,dinner/supper)nearby.

We just left My Chew Jetty homestay. It was a highlight of our entire trip. They were so helpful, the rooms comfortable and clean and very central. An amazing and unique place to stay, steeped in history. Could not recommend more highly.

Stay here for 2 nights and what a great experience it was! The room and place is basic but what a great cultural experience! You stay right on one of the historic jetties and really get a feel for the people who live there. The owners were so welcoming and helpful. And another family member lives across the Jetty. It's a great location and easy to walk to everything. I think was the best place to stay in Penang! Highly recommended!

The toilet and shower were immaculate. There is a general oudour depending on the wind direction and tide when you are on the actual jetty but not once could I smell anything inside. It is a proper toilet but the waste does dispose into the sea - as with all the other houses on the jetties.
