Located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Georgetown, the location was ideal.
Walking through the hotel's entrance, I was immediately absorbed by the hotel's showcase of Peranakan style and comfort, with decorative turquoise tiles and comfortable sofas.
The front desk hotel staffs were approachable, conversed well in english, responded to all queries efficiently, and handled all queries professionally.
Love the chic palette and color scheme in the Club Family Room. It was a stylish and cozy room.
The shower head and the foyer light were faulty, when we first checked into the room, but after we reported via the maintenance line, they responded fast and well, and fixed the shower head and foyer light, with almost immediate action.
The cleanliness of the room was fine, and a little above average.
Breakfast at the Club Lounge and Café Jen were a little under average. That was the same for the evening drinks and canapes at the Club Lounge.
Massages at the Health Club were not your typical spa treatments found, provided and received in large chain-branded hotels. The massage service / experience was something that you might get at a neighborhood massage parlor instead. The massage wasn't too bad itself, but it was the whole process before and after the massage that seemed too mediocre for a hotel under Shangri- La. Many independent / standalone hotels do it better.
Overall, a good stay at the contemporary styled and strategically located Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-La.

We stayed for 1 night at the hotel. This is our first holiday since the quarantine. Finding the hotel was very easy. It was just beside Komtar. Check in was smooth too. Just remember to drop your bags at the lobby since the parking basement does not have any elevator. We carried our bags all the way up the stairs because we didn't know about this. The family room was spacious and comfy for us. The hotel did their best to take precautions for Covid-19. The elevators were sanitized regularly and hand sanitisers are provided in front of the elevators. The pool was limited to 8 guests only and children below 12 are not permitted. We didn't mind this since we were out most of the time. We only stayed in the hotel at night. The TV was connected with netflix so we could watch some movies. Breakfast the next morning was good too. Quite a number of choices provided. Since the Covid-19 is still there, we just had to point what we want and the staff will send it to our table. We had a nice time here. Totally recommended for their location and also the hospitality. Will be back here again!

Having been taken over by the Shangri-La group and refurbished, the hotel has a really good, clean feel to it from when one first walks in, all the way to the rooms. For the price one pays per night, it is a very good hotel and the location is really good too, it can be considered right smack in the centre of Penang Island's city centre.
Furthermore, upon check out, I had left a card I had placed on the dressing table in the room. Upon sending out a quick email later that night, housekeeping had found it and almost immediately began processing the postage back to my address in Kuala Lumpur. It was really great service and I am really grateful for that.
P.S: The Front of House staff at the check-in counters can be a little friendlier though. And also hopefully, upgrading of the swimming pool area will be on the list next as that is one part of the hotel that is dated. All in all, good experience and will definitely be back.

I booked this hotel 2-3 weeks prior to my visit and managed to get these rooms at very reasonable prices. I thought this was good value money (breakfast inclusive, bottles of water in rooms, tea and coffee and good toiletries). The deco was very modern and it was clean. Receptionists were polite.
Location was not as central as perhaps some of the tourist attractions. I would say it was a 15-20 minute walk or if not, a 5-15 minute car ride to various tourist destinations. The plus side was that it was close to Hin Bus Depot (cool arts and events space).
One of the issues I had was that the room was not sound proofed very well. We could hear the occupants upstairs shifting tables (very noisy). Also, at one point, I could hear a lady having an argument when I was in the bathroom which wasn't pleasant.
Another aspect which I wasn't too impressed with was breakfast. It was very chaotic and busy. In fairness, the restaurant was very small and it was a busy period.

Was there for light travel 2 nights stayed after CMCO lift up and its was a great choice! Smooth checked in and yeah they followed SOP from the door step. Checking body temperature, they even gave complementary mask and sanitizer kit for every guest, small gesture that meaningful. Body temperature checked at all exit door. Smooth check-in, the car park just 1 level under ground. Christmas decoration taken place at the lobby and its has been cheerful. Spacious lobby and their cafe located also left side of the lobby. Surprisingly this hotel have smoking floor and yes we choose this hotel because they have bathtub which only few hotels offer that facilities.
Spacious room with King size bed for us, full amenities which they replenish every day, clean environment. Very convenient to walk within the tourist attraction. We stayed as 3x adults for 3 nights at roughly £81 / 437MYR a night in a family room with a double bed and a sofa bed that was already made up for us on arrival.
First off, we had a weird scenario where hotel staff went above and beyond to help us. We broke down 100m from hotel and all workshops were closed, being international tourists with no local help we had nowhere to store the car. Reception and security were excellent and allowed us to tow the car into a reserved spot on the forecourt for 1 night until we could sort it out the next morning when mechanics opened.
A lot of other hotels would have left us to our own problems, but Jen front desk and security staff were empathetic, helpful and kind. Thank you for making an already stressful situation a little less painful.
Also a shoutout to our housekeeping staff Noyon (I hope I got your name correct), he was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our little chats whilst he gave our room a clean, always spotless after he is finished.
Room itself is of very good quality. Nice big bed, strong AC, great shower pressure, clean environment, good lighting, quality bedding materials. The sofa bed mattress was better than some of our other hotel main beds in terms of comfort. Wifi is also very fast.
Gym is nice and clean, cool, modern and has a variety of freeweights and machines. One of the better hotel gyms.
We did not use the pool but it was not the biggest, however it was clean.
Location is great, a shopping mall, a variety of food, a few foodcourts and Love lane all within a 15 to minute walking radius. Likely even more that we did not get to see!

Have stayed at this hotel when it existed under another name i.e Traders Hotel also by Shangri La. It turned out to be a good decision.
The check in process was relatively smooth together with the health screening done by the hotel staff. It was quick and painless too!
We chose a Club Floor room with access to the Club Lounge also on the 16 th Floor. The room was clean, spacious and spunky in outlook with a wide enough luggage rack for both our suitcases. This shows thought was given to this aspect. Many hotels fail in this regard. There was even an extra lounge chair and a chair near the table.
The bed was a huge king sized one and extremely comfortable too. The pillows were soft and comfy and we both had 2 nights of restful sleep. The room was also quite sound proof from the............ street noises below. The toilet too was clean and well maintained with sufficient toiletries for our use.
The Club Lounge which we visited on both nights offered different levels of service. It did seem under staffed when compared to the ones at Renaissance Johor Bahru and the JW Marriott in Medan, Indonesia.
The choice of small bites and drinks on Night 1 was nothing to shout about but the choice on Night 2 was much better. Getting service from the staff was problematic for the reasons I mentioned on Night 1 but improved considerably on Night 2. Thanks Leena. Maybe the management should seriously look into this staffing matter. It makes all the difference.
The staff at Jen Cafe were courteous,friendly and efficient. The buffet breakfast spread was wide enough and enjoyable. Keep it up.

The location is perfect, right smack in town. Ample free, self parking during my weekday stay. If coming with large bags, recommended to drop it off at the lobby first, as there is no lift from the carpark.
The room is modern and has all the creature comforts needed. Despite being a younger, hip brand, the bed is typical Shangri-la luxury - Simmons mattress, Feathertop and luxe down pillows. Water pressure was good, internet fast and free.
Friendly and fast check in. Noticed SOP closely followed, plenty of sanitisers and special film on elevator buttons for extra protection. Highly recommended hotel.

We stayed here for 3 nights in a club room with club access. I would recommend anyone to upgrade to this facility as it was excellent and well worth the money and nice to go womewheere quiet in the afternoon for a cup of tea etc. The food and wine / beer etc early evening was really good.
The hotel is well situated and the staff were all very friendly and polite.
I would encourage people to download the Grab App and book taxis via that as they are over half the price of a taxi on the street.

Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-la is located right at the center of the UNESCO world heritage site, Georgetown. It is a contemporary city hotel that allows the guest to unwind after a full day excursion at Georgetown. The hotel's facilities and room amenities are not comparable with other Shangri-la properties, but the bubbly and energetic staff made up for this. William and Katherine were pleasant with their interactions. They will go out of the way and their comfort zone to make the guest feels comfortable.
I remember, William handed me his own medicated oil, when I told him that I have twisted my ankle. Katherine making sure attractions were open before I visited them by making phone calls.
Overall, Hotel Jen is a friendly establishment, you know that familiar feeling that you have made some great friends for life, that is hotel Jen.

Can consider grab but luck has to be on your side when you want to return to Georgetown since it is a distance away
I didnt used CAT bus, we used grab to go around town

If you like to know Jen Singapore Orchard - by Shangri-La regarding breakfast, I would recommend you to book room with breakfast because it is definitely more value for money.
Please note that there is additional charge for room with breakfast.
Buffet breakfast in most hotel would be somehow serving same food daily but still worth it.
Singapore buffer breakfast in most hotels are usually with lots of variety and is tasty.
