Stayed here for three nights. I needed a fairly central place in Penang. Gurney Drive is by the sea (however, being reclaimed). Food around this area is wonderful. Very quiet. So I did a lot of my work in this hotel room. The chair was a bit low...resulted in a bad back for this old man! The lobby is expansive, and rather devoid of people. Food in the restaurant is mid-grade! So I went out a lot to have my local, fantastic Penang food! Go to the Chowratsa area on Penang Road, by the market. Grab charges are minimal, and easy to get! The hotel is mid-priced. I would go there again. Staff need to smile a bit more!

Rooms were spotless very clean with good facilities. Hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful Sadly the food let the place down especially the breakfast little choice and badly cooked and cold Even the egg station eggs were cooked on a griddle in advance and left on a metal tray they were all like rubber and stone cold. I asked the chef once if I could have a sunny side up egg but he just pointed to the tray of cold rubber eggs and gave a snarl service was poor in the restaurant with the girls more interested in combing the hair and using mobile phones than helping guests the managers in black suits seemed to be doing all the work and were great The swimming pool had NO sun beds was was unused By most people Location is great. For all the malls and restaurants Such a shame this hotel could be so much. better with a few small improvements

Having buffet lunch with my wife now/today (1st October 2023). The spread wasn't very big but the food was good. Found a piece of plastic inside our food. Told the waiter to inform the manager about it. The waiter was shocked. No apology from the waiter or the manager. They just brushed it off. Ridiculous. The piece of plastic was white in colour and found in a piece of otak-otak popiah/spring roll. It was sharp and I actually accidentally swallowed a few pieces of it. It hurt my throat and luckily I didn't accidentally swallow this big piece. The restaurant staff honestly don't care.

The Hotel is centrally located. We had the Ocean facing room in a high floor. Surely the sunrise was superb. The Ocean front is being remade, hence no fault of the hotel. The room is big, clean, but surely needs a rework, carpets have worn out. The TV channels are limited. Breakfast is adequate. meets the requirements. Over all enjoyed the stay. thank you.

This is my 5th or 6th time during past 17 years with this hotel. Our stay has been assigned at 6th floor. We’ve heard the sound of renovation as I felt that some floors were under maintenance after covid period. I still love the pool, sauna, stream room and jacuzzi as always. We did book Seaview room as paid more compared to City View. What we’ve experience was ……not Sea View anymore since Gurney area under development by enlarging beach into the sea. You can see many trucks, construction area, etc. I am not so sure when we will get back feeling of Sea View. Anyway, our family have good experience with this hotel over 17 years. We travelled from Hatyai, Thailand to Penang, Malaysia by car. We still love staying at this hotel and gurney area…..esp Hawker at Gurney Plaza. Surely, we will revisit this hotel.

Nice place, a bit dated but well maintained. I had room 1401 a deluxe ocean front. Not much to complain. The view was nice it’s just a pity there is a huge construction site in front of the former beach . So no way to enjoy the waterfront. The staff very friendly and Wi-Fi was okay except for the evening when probably too many people were using it. You don’t need a cab, just take bus 101 and 102 from Konrad which pass behind the hotel.

Evergreen Upgrade from deluxe sea view to premier sea view room is 20myr per night. Deluxe is 32m2 with chair. Premier is 36m2 with sofa seat. Mini bar, which includes 2 mineral water, 2 soft drinks, and 2 apples are complimentary every day. Broken glass spotted on the floor. Family member toes got pierced by the glass. Spoken to the female manager, she simply took a picture of it, and close case. No service recovery. Room has this dusty smell. Even for us, with no sensitive nose, we can still breathe in the dust. Seems like the room has been vacant for quite some time. Bad sound proof. Each time families and kids walked passed the corridor of your floor, you can hear them talking and slamming the door. You can even hear the water pipe pressure, when they are showering in the room. Breakfast was not 5 stars standard. Breakfast cost 35myr per person. Choices were not as great. Probably good for a 3 stars hotel. Air con was weak. Even at 15 degree, the wind is weak, and the room feels like 30 degrees. Paid more than 50% extra for the 3rd adult. Extra bed were not comfortable at all. Bed was low and not thick. Looks like a super single bed for a kid. No amenities, drinking water, apples, shower gel, etc, provided for the 3rd person. We paid more than 50% of the room for one the 3rd person, and there was nothing given. Toilet flush seems weak. Toilet gets flooded with bubbles, each time after our shower. Can be very wet and dangerous, especially for elderly. Television channels were pathetic. Mostly local channels. Size of the television is about 29 inch. Nowadays, 5* hotels could have upgraded their television to 40 to 50 inch at least. Only 2 available adapter sockets to be used. I could not believe that is a 5 stars hotel. The service standard was a let down with a 2 stars standard. Our upcoming penang trip, would definitely not go for this hotel again.
