I stayed at Queen's over Chinese New Year weekend. Friendly staff, clean rooms and super secure. Swipe access to the building then a further swipe access door to the dorm. Its a pretty funky little place, met some really nice people.
Female hostel right next to Little India, close to the action, but quiet hostel. Clean and comfortable. I enjoyed my single room. Wifi not the best when everyone is using it, but I had data for when it was not available, so no problem for me. I will come back again to this hostel.
I booked Queen’s Hostel through booking.com and I was really drawn to it because of the canopy-style beds! They were super cute on the photos and definitely were what I expected in real life. So it’s called Queen’s Hostel because they cater to women. The canopy-style dorm beds are strictly for women. The dorm beds are located on the second floor while they have private rooms on the first floor. Men are allowed to book the private rooms but almost everyone in the hostel is a woman. The curtains provide so much privacy because they’re opaque. The bed is on the floor, you have your own lamp and the side table doubles as a locker for your valuables. The receptionist is super cool! I love her! I forgot her name but I remember her being Brazilian and she mentioned that she has been coming back so many times to Penang and every time, she works at Queen’s Hostel. I also met some really nice women at the hostel and one lady even shared her roti with me while I was having my tea. I definitely will stay here again and hopefully stay a week. I want to lounge in the area and just relax instead of napping on my bed or going out so much.…
Queen's Hostel is the comfiest, cleanest and most amazing hostel there is in Penang. I loved the amenities, the people and I have never felt safer in a hostel than how I felt whilst staying at Queen's. If I were to come back to Penang, I would definitely book and stay here again!
I stayed in this hostel from 16 to 20 of April 2018, I got 40 bites by bed bugs from the first night and I continued to get bitten by bed bugs the following nights. During my stay, the ones who managed all the check-in and check-out are the “work exchange volunteers” from a website ”Workaway.info“ They didn't know how to react and handle this bed bug situation. I finally decided to move out on the morning of 20 of April because I got 60 bed bug bites all over my body, IT ITCHED A LOT AND IT HURT! I hadn't met the hostel owner until the morning that I told those volunteers that I wanted to move out. Later the pest control company came, and there were bed bugs and bed bug eggs all over the bed curtains. It proves that the hostel never clean the bed curtains and there is a serious hygienic problem in this hostel. If you don’t want to take home beg bugs and bed bug bite scars as souvenirs, I suggest that you choose at somewhere else.…
"The queens hostel was really nice! One of the best hostels I have ever been! Clean rooms und comfortable beds with private atmosphere. I would definitely stay there one more time when I am going back to georgetown."
Queen's was one of the best hostels I've stayed in! First of all, the concept of the dorm room is great : with curtains all around the bed, it's almost as if you had your own room, with some space to leave your bags around. Great privacy! The staff was really lovely and helpful, they all love Georgetown and know a ton of great places to see and eat at. I didn't think that would be my thing when I booked, but I also really liked the "girl power" vibe there. Thanks to all the staff for your kind help and advices :)
Worst experience in Malaysia. There are very steep steps to the dorm. No lift for luggage. They turn off air condition during day and makes the place so hot that it does not cool down in the night. It was like sleeping in a sauna. Women sprayed fragrances late at night and you could smell it the whole night. There were MOSQUITOS all over the place in the bedroom area. The beds are so close together you can hear a person cough or basically move. The shower nozzle was broken and there were mosquitos in the shower. The private rooms were small and no windows. Overall, there was just a bad vibe from staff that hang around and do nothing and stare at guests. Staff member from the U.K. was rude and arrogant with a bad attitude and talked down to the women like we were five years old. I would avoid this place and especially the woman from the U.K that works there. It will ruin your vacation. It was not worth the 14 U.S. dollars. Maybe 10, tops.…
I initially wanted to stay for 1 day but ended up staying 3 days. Only reason was queens. I absolutely loved my stay there. Its a very laid back, peaceful and well equipped hostel. The amenities are on point (free wifi, hair dryer, hair straightener, washing machine, fridge, toiletries etc etc..phew!). The volunteer hosts Jasmina, Samantha and Elizabeth ended up being my partners in exploring the city in fact! They were always eager to help out guests with travel recommendations I noticed. After few days in a party hostels, this place felt like a meditation retreat. Loved my stay here, highly recommend it :)
Each bed has a pretty canopy, which helps with privacy and cutting down the noise. The beds are comfy and it's a good place to relax. It is a female only hostel, which has it's advantages. The biggest drawback is that the canopies, while cute, can get a little warm if you close the curtain. The air-conditioning only reaches so far, and someone kept turning the fan off in my room (not really a comment on the hostel, it was just annoying because it was so hot).
