great hostel has everything you need comfy bed great air con. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. They can help you with any information you need and more. I recommend speaking to the lady who runs the front desk her knowledge of the town is mega and has the best food recommendations. There’s a street food market 30 metres from the hostel. Hot and cold showers. Towels not included. Breakfast is toast. Free cold water. Good bars close by. It has two decent social areas but the only 2 things that could be better is comfier sitting area and hooks in the showers!
We stayed here with my friend for 6 days and we liked it. We stayed in one of the hostel's private rooms which was situated across the road. The room was nice and clean, aircon worked perfectly and the bed was comfy (only one blanket to share though). In the neighbour there was a mosque, so be prepared for very loud 5am prayer calls. The only weird thing was the bathroom: its' walls were made entirely out of glass so whenever you would go to the toilet or shower, the other person was basically infront of you on the other side of the clear glass and could see everything. We didn't mind because we are close, but for some other people that could be disturbing hahahah. We didn't find the hostel that social (we didn't stay in a dorm though), the common room was quite small. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and always offered their help and recommendations on everything which was nice :) During the six days we were here there was one event, a bbq night. It would have been nice to have more common activities of that kind. I would stay here again!…
This was easily the best hostel I stayed at in Malaysia. As a solo traveler it was very easy to meet people in the common area and there was always something to do. The BBQ (which should become a regular thing) got everyone together and the hostel owner, Rayson, always had recommendedations for things to do around town. In fact, it was Rayson who made this hostel the best, this guy should have his own page on TripAdvisor so people can just rate him. A great kareoke singer (belts out the Chinese bangers), a visionary for better hostel interior design, an electrician, a taxi driver, fire starter, top joker, you name it, he's that guy. Big love to my man Rayson and best of luck with the baby. An emotional Brit
I've been travelling in se Asia for 3 months, and this hostel has been one of, or the best, hostels I've visited. The location is perfect. Its on a quiet street just off from the centre of town. It takes only a couple of minutes to get to love Lane for drinks, little India for food or chowrasta Market for art- each in different directions. The service here is outstanding. Rayson, the owner, is one of the most welcoming people I've met- he takes such good care of everyone who checks in. The facilities are all clean, tidy and in good order. The social space is only small- but that means you're always sitting down next to another traveller and starting a conversation. It's a very relaxed setting, so perfect chilled vibe. In the evenings, it's easy to kick back with a beer here and find people to explore with- either for an adventure the next day or to find more beer later that evening! Rayson will sort you our with everything you need to make the most of penang- which was an amazing city to spend time in. I've reccomended many, many people to stay at house of Journey. I want to go back. …
This hostel has to be one of my favorite hostel experiences. Rayson is super communicative and interacts with the guests to create an open and social atmosphere. The facilities are super cozy and the staff are friendly. Many other guests I talked to extended their stays— And I can totally see why! Would book again in an instant.
We stayed here for 3 nights and liked it a lot. The only negative point is the air con which was way too cold and we couldn't turn it off so we got ill.. Otherwise i would come back as it's near all the cool bars and love lane
I recently stayed at this hostel and it was a good experience. Located in the centre of the town, there is good transport to the west of the island where the beaches and National Parks are. George Town is steeped in colonial history by various European powers, resulting in a mix of history and architecture. I went on a free walking tour covering the Second World War which was very interesting. The hostel had a basic but good free breakfast, although there is street food everywhere. The staff were very helpful and friendly on the local area. The hostel is located a few streets from some good bars and nightlife if that's your thing. This hostel has lots of international travellers, it's literally written on the walls, so it is clean and tidy. If you're staying here, just note you may have to ask the staff to turn on the air conditioning in the afternoon as it doesn't seem to come on automatically. Overall a good stay and would recommend.…
The standout element of his hostel is the location! So close to everything and more importantly, an array of street food, restaurants and the artwork that Penang is so famous for! The rooms and beds were clean with nice white duvets (something we’ve missed the last few months in most hostels). The bathrooms aren’t overly glamorous but always clean so no complaints there. The communal area downstairs is a nice place to meet fellow travellers and the staff are always keen to engage in conversation and offer recommendations for the area. Free breakfast with tea and coffee was an added bonus too.
Great location in the centre of George Town. The WiFi was really terrible but the beds were comfy and the duvets were great. The AC worked really well in the dorms but it wasn’t great in the private rooms, which are in a separate building across the road. The atmosphere is pretty quiet so it might be difficult for solo travellers to meet people.
Fantastic staff, location and facility. I'd gladly pay 3 times more to stay here. Wei was friendly and would gladly help you with anything you'd ask for. The only negative was that the WiFi wasn't working for a couple of days but it didn't matter I had a great stay.
