Come Home to Historic Splendour 'One of 10 Greatest Mansions In The World' - Lonely Planet 2011. A grand mansion conceived and constructed by a Grand Man; an eminent edifice which history calls home; a peerless representation of the Paradigm Chinese Courtyard House – the Cheong Fatt Tze “Blue” Mansion has been perfectly poised for over a century on firm foundations of architectural, cultural and historic superlatives. Essentially an ‘heirloom with rooms’, today, the Mansion readily bequeaths its charms to visitors who are able to indulge in exclusive heritage stays, guided tours; and beautifully tailored events on its premises. The favourite home of the “Last Mandarin and First Capitalist of China”, the Mansion is undoubtedly also the favourite home of George Town. 2 of our rooms are actually Townhouses or full private residences, that are a 10 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) away. Each is unique, yet united in providing an unparalleled heritage experience of George Town, Penang. These are located in the heart of the city, which means that staying here, you can choose to truly live like a local – experiencing the sights, sounds and spirit of George Town.

Arrived with my partner and greeted with warm welcoming. The Blue Mansion is stunning and out of this world, very unique! All staff were excellent and polite. Room cleanliness was of a high standard, cleaned everyday. They hotel provided you with some evening snacks delivered to your room, which I thought as a good touch. Breakfast was amazing, with a great view of the centre courtyard. The breakfast food too was great, high quality and plenty of choice.

Overall, I’d rate my stay 10/10.

What an amazing experience.

One Afternoon Tea Care Package for two
Two complimentary cocktails at The Bar
Complimentary guided tour of the mansion
Complimentary room upgrade (if available)
Complimentary WiFi and use of house bicycles
10% Off All Food and Beverages

Proof of residence in Malaysia required when checking in
Make changes to your reservation up to 24 hours before your arrival at no additional charge
Pay upfront for special rate
Valid till 31st August, 2020

This house is just gorgeous, and photos simply do not do it justice. It may at first appear on the 'splurge' end of the scale of accommodation, however if you are thinking about spoiling yourself, and want a unique experience then this a wonderful piece history of which you can experience.
When I arrived I was greeted with a cup of tea in the elaborately furnished main hall, Check-in was quick and efficient. I stayed in the Old Kitchen which has a Jacuzzi. The old kitchen stove is the statement piece in the room, as it has been converted into a table. Capturing the imagination of what the past would have been like and maintain the history of the house. It has been beautifully preserved. The room was quiet and immaculate, with cookies and cold drinks made available in the room, and the Jacuzzi was well worth it. I spend about 3 hours relaxing in it.
The breakfast cooked by chef Andy was so tasty! I especially recommend the Teo Chew Congee – with century egg, salted egg, shredded chicken, peanuts and pickles. Golly I still salivate over this dish. A huge fruit plate was also served and coffee on tap. Breakfast was served by Erylyn who was attentive, chatty and really helpful.
The pool is located in the Chinese garden and more of a dipping pool. It does look dated and in need of some renovations. However the Chinese garden was lovely and it was nice spending the late afternoon drinking cocktails from the bar while lying on the lawn to watch the clouds graze by the sky.
On my last day I joined in the house tour which was conducted by Sally, who was knowledgeable and made the tour interesting. She was inclusive with her tour style asking the group questions too, rather than just plying us with information. The tour is well worth it, and sally was able to impart some in house knowledge about the history and design of the mansion.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in the mansion, and hope I can squeeze in another night there before I leave Malaysia.

Our four night stay here was most memorable. The ambience of the wonderfully restored place first takes you in and then the history becomes more apparent thanks to the special tour by Sally for in-house guests. The location is quite central in old Georgetown, which we explored during our time there. The breakfast was very good with different local offerings each day, backed up the very friendly & helpful team of Resty, Jessy, Aldwin & chef Andy. We did the set three course lunch in the main restaurant and it was well worth it, the local dishes served in a wonderful setting.

It’s a beautiful place for sure, and great for the novelty experience of being able to say you stayed there. The location is within a five minute walk to chulia street and love lane, and approximately twelve-fifteen minutes walk to Armenian street and the clan jetties depending on your pace, so extremely perfect for us who want to go out often to eat/drink/party and explore street art. Also, literally right next door is an awesome night market with mostly chinese, some south east asian and aeabic food plus live entertainment. The hotel gives every guest ear plugs due to the local festivities going on throughout the neighborhood through the night, but I didn’t need them, since it didn’t seem noisy at all. They also keep fruit, a local delicacy, biscuits and water stocked in your room every day, at no extra cost. However, there were some issues for me, personally. First of all, mosquitos - I got bit while sleeping a bunch of times, and we did not do anything to cause this. I figure they come in through the key hole on the door or the ventilation in the bathroom, and the room we stayed in (Fragrant Poem), amongst other rooms, is just next to three decorative pools of still water. Second, we were both (my friend and I who stayed there) told verbally when we checked in that breakfast would begin at 6:30 am, but it actually begins at 7, and not even promptly. Third, when pulling our kinda large bags through the lobby and out to catch our taxi after checking out, two security guards for the hotel strolled right past us without offering to help at all. Also, we did (SOME) laundry through the hotel laundry service, and between the two of us it came out to be $50 USD. That’s our fault for not going to the laundromat down the street, and this would be fine if some of our laundry didn’t come back to us still damp, which it did. The best service at this hotel that we received was from the young, smiley guy who checked us in, and even more so from the Filipina lady working in the kitchen who was so sweet, helpful and apologetic when breakfast wasn’t served at 6:30 am as we were originally told it’d be. There are so many hotel options in this neighborhood, so I recommend you stay at one of them and just take a tour here and/or have breakfast (because despite all, the breakfast here is some of the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had).

Undoubtedly a wonderful heritage mansion with friendly service and a lovely team.

But the breakfast food is poor (cold and unappetising breakfasts with limited choice). This may be because of the RMCO but would expect a hotel like this to be able to serve hot food - especially when they are asking people to pick it the night before at their current price point. The limited choice matters when it doesn’t change days on end - we ended up going out for better food even though breakfast was included.

The housekeeping needs improving: rubbish was not removed from our rooms and coffee/tea not replaced nor any creamer. We ended up buying it. The pool needs cleaning from leaf litter.

Overall although a beautiful environment, the experience felt very basic and not what I was expecting given the prices I paid nor the marketing pitch.

Should start by explaining a visit to the mansion has been on our bucket list for a long time. The history of Penang is fascinating and this mansion is a piece of colonial trading history.

The mansion is truly amazing, the restoration was done with care and not “overdone”.

Purely as a boutique hotel is lacks many things and is vastly overpriced. Only the rooms are air conditioned and our room never cooled to a comfortable level. It rained during our stay and immediately a unbearable moldy smell was overpowering, to the extent we were planning to change hotels. Opening all windows, keeping fan and A/C running together with air freshener made us acceptable, but we did not enjoy.

Breakfast was very poor, low quality and it just seemed cheap.

The staff were first class, extremely helpful. Location is wonderful to walk the old city.

Upon reflection, glad we stayed as guests as the tour of the mansion was cancelled during our stay due to the Corona Virus.

If the tours were running our choice would have been to stay in another hotel and tour the mansion.

Dear AdrianH1212, Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to send your feedback on this platform. Thank you also for your kind words with regards to our restoration and our team as well, it is much appreciated. We are sorry to hear you we’re disappointed with your room and that the air-conditioning was not adequate - we do try to ensure our guests as comfortable with both the ceiling fans and air conditioners as options in each room. The mansion was built to enhance and harness natural airflow and chi, thus an important part of the restoration was to keep the open common areas and courtyards original - having them air conditioned would not have adhered to the principles of the restoration. We have also noted your other comments regarding breakfast and the smell when it rains and will act upon them accordingly. Have a good day.

This was our first visit to Penang the Blue Mansion filled our brief what we want in a "boutique" hotel.
The hotel has tours that operate twice daily which gives a good background knowledge on the history of the Mansion. These tours are free to join when residing there.
We stayed in Towkay (means Boss) during our 8 day stay the room is huge with antique furniture, a dressing room and decent size bathroom. The aircon was a welcome relief after being out exploring. The staff were all very friendly and obliging and the resident ginger cat can get a mention too.
The breakfast was great with a good buffet selection with local cuisines and also a choice of cooked breakfast. We
We did go to pool area. The area is small with 4 sunbeds just enough to go for a quick cool down after exploring.
We got around George Town by using Google maps and got a street map from the hotel.
There is the Red Garden Hawker area next to the hotel it is very clean and cheap if wanting to grab a quick bite to eat. There is karaoke from 9 pm the noise didn't bother us after a days exploring and a comfy bed we were shattered and fell asleep quickly.
Mask wearing was still mandatory when we were there so gave reassured to us that everyone was taking covid seriously and preventing the spread.

I booked directly with the hotel and selected a ground floor room which had direct access to both the internal courtyard and outside garden and pool. An Evening cocktail in the attractive bar, hot and cold drinks, fresh fruit and afternoon sweet treats were supplied each day and included. The bed was large and sheets divine - I slept very well.
Breakfast was very good with such a huge selection of local and international dishes available plus a choice from the hot menu. After the 45 min evening mansion tour which was very interesting, I ate at the restaurant - fine dining and excellent service.
I would love to return to this very special hotel.
Special mention to three members of staff who made me feel very special and cared for as a solo guest: Erlyn and Resty and Asyura.

We were part of a company trip that stayed at Batu Ferringhi and opted to stay for a night in Georgetown. And the choice we made to stay at the Blue Mansion was the best choice.

This century-old mansion was restored by its new owners in the late 90's, lovingly kept by its dedicated staff. The modern amenities put in (read ensuite bathroom) never detracted from the charm and ambiance of the building itself.

We stayed in Towkay (meaning "The Boss") on the 2nd floor of the wing near the pool. It had a high ceiling, with wooden floors and antique furniture completing the picture. The bed was comfortable and we also had fun fiddling with the old lock and key of the main door. The nanya sweets sent to our room at 4pm made us feel we really were "The Boss!"

They conduct a free tour at 6:30pm for inhouse guests. Our guide Clement's spiels had humor, giving us a better appreciation of this gem of a hotel. The breakfast was delicious and so varied and having it in the courtyard was such a delight. Location? Armenian St is a 15minute walk away and Jl.Penang is nearby for souvenir hunting. The Rapid Penang CAT Bus stop is also two corners away.

Needless to say, we were a little sad as we checked-out. Maybe we should have stayed longer. My kudos to my "kababayans" who were so happy to see countrymen staying in the hotel: Myka, Resty and Kim! And our thanks to the rest of the very friendly staff of the hotel. A big part of the enjoyment was the warmth of the staff. Don't you ever change...

Always wanted to have an extended stay in this beautiful heritage mansion and now its possible with special rates to fit company's budget.
Room guests are able to access all compounds where tour and diners cant so there was lots of privacy for guests even if there is tourist and diners visiting the main building.

It's the best time to have a staycation now with the pandemic rates and there wasnt as much crowd like before. The hotel did their best to distant the rooms of guests best they can over the nites. Our room was upgrades to Escoy, with access to the garden and pool, pretty much to ourselves.

The mansion is rich with flavour and very strategically located in the heart of Georgetown, surrounded by great food and attractions at walking distance. Every corner of the mansion is a gem to admire shining differently in day and night I was still missing it after 3 nites there.

Downside is the breakfast experience was so good (with option of Courtyard or in/outside room) that I couldnt have enough appetite quota to try other breakfast option around.

Definitely worth even any locals for a nite or 2 staycation at this beautiful place and appreciate the owners for keeping this heritage alive for all to admire.
