Staying at Clockwise Hostel is like staying with your best friend who knows Penang like the back of his hand and enjoys having visitors. Our hostel is a small but extremely cozy place in the very center of UNESCO Zone of the old part of Georgetown. Our delicious breakfasts have no time limits. The hostel is located in an old heritage building which is nicely renovated. We are crazy on cleanliness and gardening. Our advanced size beds are stable and comfortable and have two personal electricity sockets - Malaysian and universal. All room are equipped with air conditioners and fans. Dorms have nice wide windows in old heritage style, private rooms are without any windows. For only 4 rooms we have 4 shared WC and 2 showers, which is more than enough, so you will never wait in a queue. There is a nice terrace in the top of the back yard to chill out in the evening. Breakfast is included at any time of the day (starting from 8 am), with no matter when you wake up. We also serve a wide choice of local and European dishes. We do famous food and beer walks several time per week. They start from the entrance of our hostel. We can help with visas, bus and train tickets and laundry.

A wonderful experience. The view was amazing. The hospitality of the owner was exceptional. We loved our breakfast. The room was very cozy and very clean. I loved the details that were hand made. You felt the spirit of Gjirokastra. We will come back. Wish you all the best and thank you for the experience. Best Ina.

My husband and I stayed in their 8 bed hostel but on a recent visit were told that the hostel rooms weren't available due to problems with permitting or something along those lines. It was such a shame. Their other rooms are wonderful though. The staff were so friendly and made our stay amazing.

I booked on Agoda.com. I had a receipt of my payment in my email. After traveling 10 hours on a bus I arrived around 10pm. I told them about my booking and they said they received no payment and that they only received a reservation under my name through Booking.com (which I did not use). They told me I had to pay again even though i showed them the booking confirmation email and receipt PDF. I understand some places have technical problems but the front desk people were laughing at me and very rude about it. They then got a "manager" lady to come basically tell me i had to pay or leave so she was even worse. Incredibly unprofessional and not a fun experience for me. I left and got a new hostel. Maybe this place would be ok if you just show and pay? But I wouldn't pay to deal those front desk people. Probably wouldn't stay there for free.

We have stayed in a private twin. There was no window in the room, the freestanding A/C unit was simultaneously cooling and heating the air in the room. One of the bed frames should have been trashed long time ago but instead was fixed with duct tape and some wire. Mattress was thin and was wrapped in plastic packaging. They only have two private rooms but still do not provide any towels. If you decide to stay with them do not arrange your bus journeys with them. I have asked the lady at the reception how much they charge for bus to Cameron Highlands. She said 50 RM with a pick up from Clockwise. As it was only 2 RM more expensive than what I saw on line I have decided to book 2 tickets. I have asked at least three times if the price includes pick up, and she said yes. After issuing the tickets she said I owe her 106 RM which is 2 x 50 RM for bus PLUS 2 x 3RM for transfer to the bus station. One good thing about this place is that it is located on a quiet street close to everything.

We slept here for 4nights. 3 nights in a private double room which was quite warm (there was a fan and airco though but still..) and 1 night in a 8beddorm. Bring your own travelsheet because we were not sure if the sheets of the hostel were washed.. The owner was very friendly and helpfull.

We hadn't booked any accomodation in advance in Penang so just stumbled upon this little place by chance. Only 60RM for a private air con room with breakfast, so very budget friendly. The whole place is painted in bright and cheerful colours and in one the heritage buildings. It's a really nice hostel, on a quiet lane just off Love Lane, so within walking distance to the main roads. The staff were super friendly, and the whole place was very clean. The only minor things: the wifi a little patchy, the air con dripped a little bit and our room was a little dark, could have done with one more lamp by the bed but as I said, all minor issues. Very happy to find this gem and would be glad to stay again :)

We spent 12-13 days at Clockwise Hostel (during our two months in SE Asia). We just could not make it back to Thailand (we wanted to stay at Clockwise for 2-3 night and hitchike to Singapore), we really liked this place. Each day we extended our stay (yes, the lady working got used to it). The whole place makes you feel like home (bit lazy and comfy), honestly. There is that big hall with reception downstairs and the staff leave overnight (they go to opposite building)so the whole place is yours (locked). It's nice especially during long, warm nights. We are gonna stay there next year as well

Good location right off Love Lane where there are some great eateries/drinking holes. Shared Bathrooms were decent with nice strong showers and toilet paper provided. We took a double room; size was ok, bed was ok, no windows which to be honest doesn't bother me as it keeps noise out. The a/c was quiet but temperature control didn't work well so we had the choice between arctic or boiling in the room (with only aeroplane-style blankets provided). I found the staff friendly and helpful, they spoke good English and helped us book our boat to Langkawi. Would stay again.

This place is located in really quiet and beautiful area, close to the center. The only disadvantage was the bed that wasn't comfortable at all, but the price wasn't high so it's not a big deal. Rooms are nice and clean!

Very rude staff, they were not helpful at all. No air-conditioning, as promised. The only good thing was location. The rooms were clean and basic. There was also a nice area to lounge in. No blankets or towels.
