With the success of its sister hotel – YENG KENG HOTEL, Hoo Kim Hotels Sdn Bhd has established another pearl in the heart of George Town. Nam Keng Hotel is named after one of the earliest established cities in China, which was also the capital city of China for 6 dynasties. This hotel spans across a row of 3 combined units of shop houses which were built in the early 1900s. 3 intricately carved wall friezes bedeck the exterior of the hotel, a stark contrast against the modernised buildings alongside it, a unique feature that reflects its very personality. The hotel retains the original Straits-Chinese architectural characteristics and mix of cultures Penang, Malaysia is known for. Nam Keng Hotel – The perfect embodiment of George Town’s timeless beauty and living heritage. While antique furniture and ornaments embellish the interiors, its overall understated décor presents a more practical vibe-elegant, uncluttered, yet personal. Nam Keng Hotel~ Where culture and comfort collide!

Detailed Reviews
It's our very 1st time in George Town, I booked this hotel online as it looks so nice on the pictures and the location. We had great time. The staff were super nice, the room has very thing we need. As it's hot in Penang, the aircon worked perfectly and there a small fridge in the room where we kept the cold drinks. It's great to have a cold drink when we came back hot and sweaty! The shower is nice and big with plenty hot water. All toiletries are all provided, even though we didn't use for the most part, it's nice to see that they're there as needed.
We'd like to come back to stay next time when we're in town.
Thank you!
Stella

Great location, lovely property with a homely feeling (with a courtyard), good variety of breakfast topped with excellent customer service makes this property more than worth a stay. We stayed for 3 nights and all the key areas to visit in Georgetown are within 10 -15 mins walk with access to the main street 2 mins away. Room and bathroom are very clean, modern with the heritage touch. Highlight was the staff and their customer service with an attitude to help us in every possible way.

If you like boutique hotels this is a good choice. It is in a great location in Georgetown very close to most amenities in town. Room is of a good size and while our room overlooked a road, and was near a noisy pub (where live music stops at midnight) and also a mosque, the room was relatively quiet with I believe some form of double glazing. Breakfast consisted of nasi lemak, prata, yoghurt, bread, kuih, eggs, some veggie, coffee and tea and was the same every day. Nevertheless a reasonable breakfast. Staff were freindly. Overall a good hotel to which we will return

The Nam Keng hotel is a very welcoming little antique hotel with warm and attentive staffs. We would like to express special thank to the desk guy who was on duty on 18/7 evening and 20/7 morning, keep up with your good work.
Nevertheless, we were impressed by the architecture of the hotel and the room was sparkling clean. We had a really good rest after the long journey. We were lucky to have parking space available near to the hotel during our stay. We also really enjoyed the delicious breakfast, served with hearty traditional Nyonya kuihs.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone and return one day.

A great little boutique hotel in downtown Georgetown Penang, there is a nearby public car park so you can leave your car safely and walk. All the best parts of downtown Penang are within walking distance. We stayed in ground floor garden suite. Neat and clean and comfortable. Bed a bit hard but soft pillows and a good sleep. Staff are attentive and welcoming and full of suggestions for where to eat out and visit. A nice weekend treat in downtown central city

A quaint Peranakan style hotel with great ambience and conveniently located to main street Penang. Would like to do a shout out to one of the staff, Tharan, for providing exceptional and genuine service. He was of utmost help during our stay - giving tips on where to go, where to eat and even struck up friendly conversations whenever he saw us. Rooms were spacious with clean toilets. Only issue I had was that I had a sinus reaction to the carpet in the room - would be good to remove it (if possible) or increase the vacuuming / shampooing schedule. Otherwise it was a great stay!

I just stayed here two nights and was happy with this hotel.
Location – Good! - Was close to the port to get the boat to Langkawi and close enough to the bus station if you arrive via bus. Was also close to the main street were it appeared most of the restaurants and bars were.
Room – Great! - Bed was comfortable, shower was outstanding, hot and powerful. Person below mentions soundproofing but as I think the hotel was pretty empty I couldn’t comment on that.
Food – This was the let-down – the breakfast was very pretty basic, just toast, eggs and some fruits.
Rest of the hotel – Did not see any of the rest of the hotel so cannot comment.
Staff – Staff were pleasant and helpful.

A typical Peranakan hotel with great ambience of the traditional style accommodation with modern facilities. Located right in the heart of Penang CBD, a hotel with only 8 suites. Personalised service to each guest with big and clean rooms. Close to all the shops and various tourist attractions in the vicinity. Walk out to the main street in Penang and enjoy

Excellent location walking distance to all the key areas to visit in Georgetown. Breakfast was in a the airy courtyard which was pleasant and the breakfast choice was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful with local knowledge. Tarin ( I hope i have his name correct) had the biggest smile and recommended a wonderful Indian restaurant called Gem. We were hoping to stay an extra night but the hotel was full so Tarin contacted there other hotel where we were able to stay. We would definitely recommend this hotel. Excellent. I hope Tarin can be rewarded in some way. Best wishes, Hannah and Graham White.

You can email the hotel. Contact details on the website. They reply quite quickly.
For your kind info, hotel don't have lift but staircase one floor up. Thank you.
The deluxe is on the lower floor at the rear of the building and has a small garden. It is a lovely room, but they all are. You would be very happy with either.
Why not stay at Yeng Keng then? Price is 50% more, but that entitles in-house guests to exclusively enjoy facilities, like the pool.
