Room was large and had separate dressing area. WC and shower. Everything worked well. Checking in was smooth but Agoda messed up with the booking. It took some time to sort it out. Buffet breakfast the next day was average but not excellent. Parking in the multistorey carpark was adequate though short of parking spaces. Cars were parked in the driveway at night Service was good overall, but the doorman started well, but switched off after a while, staff other than Davika should be more pleasant and smile more. Hotel areas were well maintained and pleasant for viewing the history behind the building.
Hi Dennis ( Resident Manager ) We Check in at 7.15pm to Deluxe Suite for 2 nights. Asked for extra pillow which HK send over the pillow with yellow stain. Dennis, this is not acceptable at all. Make thing worst, Bathroom towel only have 1. So sad looking at Royal Chulan Penang. Should upkeep the hotel. I know after MCO, lots of hotel trying their level best to bring up their level to before. Denise, But for sure, I will not returned to this property. Used to be my favorite property
My recent visit to Penang in May 2022 was excellent. The hotel was clean and has a fantastic old time charm as it still maintain the original colonial design. The location was excellent for me. The hotel located at Weld Quay, just right behind the big post office. Sri Weld food court just right in front of the hotel. What makes the food court so popular is because the famous nasi lemak and mee goreng are selling there. The hotel has a great central location. Walking distance to Padang Kota Lama, Little India, Chew Jetty, Pinang Peranakan Mansion and so on. For those who prefer to travel via public transportation, the hotel is conveniently located just across the street from a bus stop. The room was spacious and clean. The staff was amazing too. When I went for breakfast, the service staff was very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was very cozy and the food was pretty good with a lot of choices. I am a croissant lover and I like the croissants served for breakfast so much! I left my file behind at the hotel. I texted them through Facebook messenger. They immediately worked on it and the file was posted back to me after that. Thank you so much to the Royale Chulan Penang team! Would definitely stay here again when I come back to Penang! Reception efficient. Room comfortable and clean. TV sound not good. Only one movie channel. Breakfast good but hot food all cold. Housekeeping very good. Get a room without connecting door so you get some sleep without hearing kids crying or people running around. I was upgraded to pool view room for my 10 night stay and for the price I paid on Agoda, the stay was worth every dollar. This hotel is a solid four star Malaysian hotel. It is not modern but it has charm. My first choice now in Penang since Sentral Seaview has increased their pricing.
I was so disappointed with the royal chulan hotel .. I booked through agoda on April 18, 2022 for 5 rooms for a family. I also after booking contacted the hotel and was able to confirm the booking for the room and everything is ok to check in on May 5 and check out on May 6, 2022. but on May 2, 2022 received an email stating the booking was canceled due to room defect. When I called and the front desk answered the phone, they said reservation is over and I have to call tomorrow. when I asked why I got a last minute email .. the front desk said maybe your room had been given to someone else .. I was surprised to hear when he said that .. but he said he had to call tomorrow and ask for a reservation. when call reservation the reason given is that one floor is defective so we have to cancel many room reservations made by customers. disappointed with the management of the royal chulan hotel.…
When check in only 1 reception on duty n have to wait for half an hour which can't complain too much but however d problem came is upon check into my room no bath n hand towel. Try to call housekeeping for 10 minutes no one is responding n further call operator no one answer too. Decide to go down to front desk to request for d towel which duly respond to my request but but again after waiting in my room for another 15 minutes still no response from them n so decide to go down to front desk to ask for d towel again.. This time receptionist asked d bellboy to assist me to get d towel.. However when I finally get my towel d bellboy show sour face not happy. The next day decide to try d swimming pool with my son n to my big disappointment d pool water quality was cloudy n very badly maintained which you can see d sentiments. I believed d pool was not clean for a long time with slimy moddy n algae build up. It is a very disappointing stay for my family. We hope d mgmt do something about it. Lastly my room outside d window full of cigarette bud n my leftover biscuit full of ants when I came back. This, is my 2nd stay n overall a big disappointment. …
The room is not well maintained. There are alot stains on the carpet and there is a musky smell to the room. I am unable to open my curtain to let some sunlight in because of the room’s location. It is directly next to the swimming pool and theres zero privacy. Toilet is extremely dirty with pee sticking on the toilet seat. I called the front desk to request for a room change, they said they are fully booked and they can only get the housekeeping to come and HAVE A LOOK at the toilet. They then told me that it might take a long while since they are all busy so housekeeping wont be able to come in anytime soon. I checked out right after and booked another hotel. I guess they got so many bad reviews, they didnt even ask why i checked out 15 mins after checking in.
I went to Royale Chulan Penang recently and I had the worst experience ever. The sheet was dirty, they did not tidy properly, floor towel was not changed, it was wet, and the worst part was, I accidentally left my house key and an access card in the drawer, they told me they will call me but I had to call them so many times. IN THE END, THEY CALLED ME TO CONFIRM THAT MY HOUSE KEY AND ACCESS CARD WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND, AND THEY WERE NOT HELPFUL AT ALL, AND RUDE!!!!!
Check-in: Booked through Agoda with promo price. Smooth & easy by the friendly front desk. Arrived at 5 pm so no crowd. The lobby is hidden from the main road & not so exclusive. Room: Booked 2 superior rooms & were given at 5th floor with partial view of the port. Blanket full of stains, a bit dusty & few ants crawling. Furniture little old with signs of tear & discolouration. Clean towels & bathroom. Few Astro channels are available but Sony TV was blurry. Breakfast: Not too crowded on Sat, 8:30 am. Typical breakfast mixed of local & western. Orange juice was too sweet. Good, friendly service by the F&B team. Building Exterior : Some rubbish outside the building distracted our photo session. The historical facade needs new paint or at least maintenance/routine clean-up. Walkable to many historical places & eateries. Summary: Chose this hotel if the price is less than MYR190 & if you want to be close to the jetties/port. Good soundproof. You can't hear the traffic or noise from next door. Love how the old structure is preserved. …
my all time favorite hotel whenever i come back to penang with my regular room facing the cruise ships, good breakfast and friendly staffs, parking bit nuisance, nice lobby and cozy lounge, walking distance to all places. one thing i dont like is that i cant smoke cigar at any place in this hotel - disappointed
