Muntri Grove Hotel garners high marks for its spotless cleanliness and the attentive service provided by its warm and professional staff. Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, guests revel in the hotel's prime location and its proximity to attractions, often noting the great value it provides with comfortable and spacious rooms.
While the hotel's atmosphere is described as charmingly authentic, light sleepers might be bothered by the nightlife noise, and some reviewers suggest bringing earplugs. Despite occasional remarks about poor insulation, many travelers appreciate the mix of modern amenities within the historic setting.

Hotel's Favourite
The hotel is in a narrow street, but near to the city center and easy to reach. The old colonial house with the nicely furnitured (and clean) rooms adds authenticity to the stay. The really precious feature is the staff, the hosting lady welcomed us kindly with an ice cream and gave us tips about the city and where to eat. But most of all she was smart and helpful when we had a problem with the transfer on the last day, we wouldn’t have been able to solve the problem without her. Recommended!

Huge beautifully decorated room & pool upstairs where you can have breakfast, a different local dish every day of the week plus the regular fare. No sign but turn in on Muntri Street behind Hainan Temple to find 9 rooms on the ground floor and 9 more upstairs. Easy to walk to sights & eateries - can cut thru the hotel shop behind directly to Chulia Street.
Quiet during the day but can hear people walking/talking upstairs/outside and some really loud birds lol. Was worried about noise at night due to its proximity to Chulia Street's bars but the real issues are firecrackers on CNY's Eve and terrible singing from the adjacent karaoke on Saturday & Sunday 'til well past 2:30 am, perhaps even later but we finally managed to fall asleep eventually ... maybe not the hotel's fault but just awful! Not sure if this happens only during weekends/holidays but best bring earplugs!! Starting to realize that 'heritage hotel' means zero soundptoofing haha... Shame about the noise at night 'cause the room's really nice otherwise, a place you can chill all day if you don't feel like heading out.
Pretty clean other than some ants on the bed maybe because the bed's near the French doors to the garden area? Bed's on the hard side but fairly comfortable and plenty of room for 2. No duvet available, just some thin sheets but enough. They can send your laundry to be done for 10 + 18 RM/kg. 10 RM / night foreign tourist tax plus another city taxi of 2 RM / night on top of the room rate. Toiletries plus universal plugs in the room.

Dear Redeyeblues, Thank you for choosing us at Muntri Grove. We extremely pleased to note of your positive comments and many thanks for sharing your thoughts on us as indeed feedback from guest serve as great learning points for me and my teams to be better . We hope to provide a seamless experience next time . With the regards to the noisy karaoke ,we have been trying to work things out with them so that our guest are not disturbed . As we are of course in the heart of a living , breathing city and traffic and sound are part and parcel of it , some guests don't mind this , while some are more sensitive and we try to alleviate the situation for them when this occurs. While the strict restoration impositions and respecting the heritage behind this ,limitations existed on how much enhancing of the structure and interior fittings could be done especially in the area of sound proofing . However ,we are very glad to know you were pleased with the hotel overall . We hope you will find the time to stay with us again and be able to truly experience and continuing to meet your expectations . Warmest Regards , MN Fazli - Resident Manager

We stayed in one of the rooms downstairs. It was beautifully renovated with just what we needed inside + complimentary coffee, tea and water, facing the bautiful garden outside.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Every weekend 2pm they offer complementary tea/coffee, desserts and ice-cream to all guests.
Breakfast & pool area very disappointing. It was very run down and the pool didn't look clean.
Breakfast also not so good.
Pillows very big and hard so if you like thin soft pillow better bring your own!
We would definitely go back as the price 2ad very good for a heritage hotel!

Thoroughly recommend this hotel. The rooms are huge and well designed.Well decorated with seating area, table and chairs, a table, huge bed, dressing table plus separate shower room and toilet. There are precautions in the room against mosquitoes - a diffuser and electrical insect killer. We found this reassuring and suffered no bites. The breakfast was simple but excellent there was a good simple selection of food to choose from as well as freshly cooked to order eggs/omelettes and a daily special which was explained to us by the staff - Chicken porridge was delicious and so glad we tried it.
The hotels location was excellent for George Town sight seeing as its in the middle of the UNESCO site. When we wanted to head to Penang Hill the hotel arranged a taxi for us. All the staff were excellent, professional, efficient and friendly.
It was interesting to have the pool there and lovely to sit at breakfast and hear the water running or to sit by it during the day however although described as a lap pool we didn't fancy putting our feet in it as water quality looked poor.

First the good stuff: this hotel is architecturally gorgeous. A row of 11 shophouses were carefully restored and converted into 18 rooms. Each room is an entire floor of a shophouse (i.e. very spacious rooms). The hotel staff are incredibly helpful, warm and hospitable. The hotel also adds some nice touches of hospitality, for example, a welcoming pot of date tea and ice lollies when you get to your room. They also have complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea. The swimming pool area is designed to relax you.
Here are the cons, and they aren't negligible. If you are favored by mosquitoes, this place may not be for you. These pests are not abundant at the hotel, but cannot be ignored. The hotel goes to lengths to mitigate the issue. The bed has a mosquito netting, the room has multiple mosquito repelling contraptions, and a canister of mosquito spray. However, that doesn't completely eradicate the problem.
Also the neighboring establishment has some sort of karaoke session on weekends which is very loud! Because the rooms are not well soundproofed (since the building is in keeping with old architecture), these bad singers will keep you up well into the night!

Visited over Christmas and had a great stay at Muntri Grove. It's in a good setting - very central in Georgetown, but set back from the road on a little side lane. The colonial building is charming, with a small pool on the upper floor that is lovely after a hot day sightseeing. All the sights of Georgetown are within an easy walk. Large, comfortable rooms opening out onto the garden and simple but very good breakfasts, with options of local or Western dishes (the Roti Canai was excellent). The staff really make this place - they could not have been friendlier or more helpful - and the little touches like cakes in the room on Christmas Eve were lovely. We would certainly stay here again if we are back in Georgetown.

Next to the hotel which is priced at 100 € ++ Per night there is a pub with out door Music - curfew is apparently at 1 AM or 2 AM at night. It is literally impossible to get any rest until that late hour and it doesnt matter if you make the reception aware of this. They cannot do anything. They offered to move us to a different location in the hotel but 50 meters would literally not make a difference. Until this gets sorted out this accommodation cannot be recommended for anybody who is on a normal day/night schedule. This review done on Christmas Eve 2022 at 11 PM. Two people next to each other cannot have a conversation because of the noise. Windows are closed and shitters too. Unfortunately - the place is very Nice.

The location is ideal, and the rooms are spacious with a unique feel that really highlight the heritage aspect of Georgetown while having the mod cons to make your stay comfy. Bonus points for the mini fridge & kettle that were great for storing kids’ snacks & fresh milk for a cuppa, the water cooler for bottle refills near the pool & the properly hot shower with soap & shampoo in environmentally friendly dispensers. There’s a sweet little pool to cool down in after a hot day exploring the streets & a garden area around the premises. The staff are lovely & accommodating, a special mention to Ragu & Jenny for their help, but every staff member was polite & super helpful. If I make it back to Georgetown again, it will definitely be the place I want to stay.

This time we stayed in the room upstairs. The upper rooms make it easy for excess to the pool whilemesmerizing and attractive decor with lights flashing to the ceiling. The level of cleanliness and care around it in the hotel area is very clean and well maintained garden. Very satisfied with the service and quality of service provided, especially from the manager itself En Fazli, who make us feel special . Only limited parking space may make you restless. We are definitely coming back again.

We arrived at 4 on a sat afternoon and was immediately given afternoon tea. It was very welcoming setting the tone for our visit.
The hotel is perfectly situated, tucked away in a quiet spot in the heritage quarter.
The downstairs room was spacious clean and made to a high standard.
There was no spare bed but the double was huge and the seating area was comfortable to sleep on.
The staff were very helpful and welcoming with a special mention for the lovely Sam. Breakfast was fruit, toast, eggs or a local dish served by the pool.
The pool was a god send giving a welcome respite from the heat of the day and from the hustle and bustle of Georgetown.
We spent 11 days at muntri and would highly recommend the hotel it's perfect location and friendly staff.

There is a small laneway next door where people smoked but no I didn't see anyone smoke on the premises. Best ask the desk.
Yes, is open from 1st July 2020 onwards.
The hotel does run parallel to the businesses on Cintra Street (the hotel is tucked down a side alley) so there is some noise from a bar nearby. It's not too bad and didn't go on too late when I was there.
I can't remember about the toilet door - I think it might go right up but can't be 100% certain.
Yes. They do have.
