The 7 suites of Palm Mansion is restored from a row of 7 pre-war shophouses, each room is meticulously built with hard wood as the timber flooring and the ceiling beams. The old torn down timber is recycled into king size beds ,writing tables and chairs to furnish the entire hotel. Each room has a mezannine floor. What an interesting idea, as nothing goes to waste!!

The service and the length that Mr Chang and Dr Theng went to extend their hospitality was outstanding. They made our stay in Penang very memorable and we would like to thank them for the warmth and services. The owner and staff have definitely provided us fine personalised concierge service during our stay.

The suites at the hotel preserved the charm of Penang of yesteryears and are clean, sizeable, high ceiling-ed and quaint. Definitely a good alternative to a hotel, for the space and unique historical background. We especially like that many of the furnitures were repurposed wood from the old structure recovered from when the hotel underwent restoration. In general the ambience of the suite was good however, the AC may not be powerful enough to cool the very high ceiling suites in the peak of an afternoon. We were out most of the day, so it wasn't really a concern for us. Bearing in mind the hotel does not appear to have an elevator therefore may not be suitable for people with accessibility concerns. Nevertheless staffs are more than happy to assist with delivering luggages to suites.

Also noteworthy is Palm Mansion's great location and easy access to many of George Town's UNESCO World Heritage attractions. We walked to the Clans Jetty, Little India, Lebuh Armenia, Lebuh Chulia, Love Lane, St George's Church, and the Kwan Im Temple from the hotel. The proximity to some of the yummy local eateries is also a big plus for us.

We were stranded in Penang a few days ago. We went on the ferry from Langkawi to Penang for a visit + planned to return same day. However, we were given wrong info by the ticket seller and missed the return ferry.

We had to go + find somewhere to stay for the night. We found the above hotel and the owner was a charming man who was very kind and hospitable.
He made us all a couple of complimentary drinks and had a room made up for us. He was so helpful and advised us where to get a good meal and where to get good
views of Penang by night etc etc.

The room was delightful and this small boutique suite was just the ticket. The staff were very nice and helpful too.

Well recommended.

Thanks to all.

Cleanliness of the place is good. Consider value for money for the price we paid for 2adults and 2 kids. Basic amenities in the bathroom. Location wise...just ok. At night are pretty quiet around the hotel area. Convenient store just a few doors away.

Quirky hotel with rooms split loft-style. The manager was funny and very helpful, with plenty of tips on Georgetown and Penang attractions and restaurants.
We had a nice stay for 3 nights, but after walking around in the scorching sun we started to dream about a swimming pool, which this hotel is missing. The rooms are big downstairs, but the bed is in the loft area up some pretty steep stairs, which quickly became off limits for our 3-year old. The roads around the hotel are also pretty noisy, courtesy of a couple of popular restaurants and their motorised patrons.
Breakfast is across the road in a little street restaurant full of locals, good enough if you are not too picky and are happy to drink tea from a mug that has been used a few too many times before.
Location wise the Palm mansion is central and walking distance to pretty much everything. It's pretty safe and secure, with electronic security door at ground level.
Mr Chang looked after us with really good tips that saved us money and time.

As everyone known, penang is a tropical area with high humidity and hot everyday. This place has really bad conditioning in the room, you can't even come back for a rest in the afternoon because the room is already overheated at that time. At night, it is better than afternoon but it is still too warm for a RM 400 room. The tape water taste is horrible. You can't even use it to rinse your mouth!! Your RM 400 per night will only pay for the heritage then nothing else. I don't mind to pay less for just enjoying the heritage part with bad air conditioning, horrible tape water taste and no hair dryer provided.

Dear Wan Sze, Thank you very much for bringing to our attention the following. 1) Hot Room a) We have since made arrangements to ensure that all the a/conds are serviced regularly and working in optimum conditions. b) we advise guests of their approximate time of returning to their room so that we can switch on the a/cond before their return to their room. 2) Hair Dryer We have provided hair dryers for all the rooms. 3). Bad water smell We have checked with Penang Water Authority regarding your nasty experience. They were surprised and explained that in the remote slim possibilities, during main pipe changes, stale water was not flushed out properly , thus the smell. They have areassured us that such bad experience should not happen again.

Palm Mansion is a newly renovated building in the Georgetown heritage zone which offers 7 rooms for guests. Stayed here for one night in a deluxe room.

This hotel is very new and as such all the fit out etc is in great condition and really adds to the atmosphere of the hotel.

The staff and owners were really helpful for some ideas of what to see and do and the common areas outside the room itself were a fantastic touch to allow us to say hi to the other guests and meet some new people.

Amenities were of high quality and definitely compared favorably to anything else i have seen in the region at this price point and for this type of hotel.

Location allowed us to walk to a heap of local attractions and sample the local culture/food that Penang is famed for.

A great little find and I dont think it will be too long until lots more people catch on to this little gem in the heart of Georgetown.

It was an excellent stay in Palm Mansion. The owner and their staffs are very friendly and helpful. We went out to have breakfast together and they even drove us to our destination. Never expect that to happen. Their room is big and clean. The environment is beautiful with a thick heritage feel. Definitely the no.1 choice to stay in in Penang if you are looking for a heritage, comfortable, affordable & homely stay! Daebak!

We have just spent several weeks in Asia staying at several hotels and this is by far the highlight in respect to hotel experiences.
It is a boutique hotel providing a comfortable, relaxing stay with all the in room facilities expected. What makes this hotel unique in my experience however, is the refurbishment of this heritage hotel from old timbers. I am not one to normally admire the intricacies of a buildings design however, the craftsmanship that has gone into this restoration is something to be admired. It is pleasurable to sit back and take this all in and if you are lucky as I was, you may meet the owner who will explain some of the transformation processes.

It is well situated within Georgetown, has a great cafe across the road offering many styles of food and coffee. (you must try the salted caramel latte) and is a short taxi ride to modern shopping malls and the main tourist attractions of Penang.

Another plus is the exceptional service provided by the hotel staff.

Mr JL Chang was prompt in replying my email queries before my trip. He is very experienced and gave us good advice.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted warmly by Mr Chang and his helper. He gave us suggestions of where and when to visit places of interest. He also helped us book taxi for our sightseeing and airport transfer. The taxi always arrived on time for our trip.

It is very kind of him to bring me to a vegetarian restaurant and then return to the hotel to bring my parents to a Chinese coffeeshop for breakfast. He even went the extra mile to bring us serviette and cutlery and checked that we were ok before leaving the restaurant.

On our last day, he drove us to a vegetarian restaurant for breakfast. The wholemeal char siew pao were delicious. After breakfast, he drove us to Air Itam Dam to enjoy the scenery and then to Penang Hill. My parents enjoyed the scenery and cool weather there. We would have missed this wonderful place if Mr Chang had not recommended it.

We were very grateful to Mr Chang for taking care of us, especially my elderly parents, and seeing to our needs.
