Let me make clear that this is not a bad hostel. It just wasn't a place were we felt comfortabel. The staff was really friendly and helpful. But... We don't like shared bathrooms and I didn't noticed that when I booked. Second, the people in the 2 rooms around us were very loud, and third, there was a cockroach in our room.

Don't expect luxurious appartments, but if a reosanably priced place to sleep is what you need, this place is the place to go. Rooms are clean and have good aricon, venue is ideally located just next to the inner perimeter of Georgetown's old town and laundry and taxi service are perfect and provided on request. But above all, it is the great service of the personnel that makes this place worth every penny. If you need anything or just want some information, the staff is absolutely happy to help and takes care of it to the best of their abilities. Their helpful attitude made our stay perfect!

Strange combintion of things. Owner is very friendly and wants to explain all about Penang, the island, possibilities, absolutely great! However- we booked a twin room for 60 ringgit - 3 times the price of a regular room and we had 1 fan, no windows and 1 very bright light. We actually bought our own licht at the shop. There was no cleaning- we had to do that ourself, an no clean bedsheets. The bedsheets kept on coming off so you woke up on a bare matrass and pillow that did not smell nice. All toilets and showers had mold and the occasionall moth ball (or whatever chemical ball) being thrown in. Or on the last day- 10 mothballs at once in the shower. Gave a real pungeant smell! Shower always with animals.. as per photo.

Located only around 10 mins walk from Komtar bus station. Very close to almost all of the attractions in Georgetown like Armenian street, Clan jetties, Little India etc. so you can just walk around (or rent a bicycle). Very nice staff, they'll explain about all the places to see, give you well detailed maps, how to go, bus numbers, where to eat and even book bus tickets with a very nominal transfer cost from the hostel so that you don't have to go to the Sungai Nibong bus terminal which is really far away. I got my bus directly from Komtar. Lot of street food around the place and stores like 7-11. They have drinking water and you can fill your bottle as many times you want. The rooms are very simple though and it seems they don't provide towels so bring your own. It can get really hot in the afternoons. Also bring an power plug adapter as my charger didn't fit (it did in the hostel in KL). They have lockers. Really cheap place and clean enough so nothing to complain!

The first night I spend in the fan room, as I don't really like AC's. But there was roadwork ongoing the whole night. so there was no chance of sleeping. The other day I changed to the female dorm, which was not noisy anymore, but there was also no window. the staff is helpful. the hostel is well located between the bus terminal and town - walking distance the bathroom area is always very wet and could be cleaner. it's very basic and no addition. therefor average rating points.

We spent 4 nights here in Penang and our stay was comfortable and we felt very welcomed. My boyfriend and I stayed in a twin room which was very basic, although we did pay extra for air con which was a bonus. Shared shower/toilets which were kept clean and free hot and cold water 24/7. The staff were very helpful when my boyfriend badly cut his finger on a penknife and helped us find a nearby clinic. They always smiled and said hello whenever we passed one-another. There are 24hr security cameras throughout the building, and lockers for the dorm rooms. Beds were comfy and room was clean and tidy! Only downside is we had trouble with the wifi working on the upstairs floor; however it worked well in the reception lobby. It was a little more pricey than our usual hostel budget, although this may just be the area we stayed in - location was perfect - near many cafes and restaurants, and a short 10min walk to the mall.

We had booked this place some time ago knowing that we would be in Georgetown. We arrived from a 4 night stay at a very cheap hostel in the jungle in Sumatra and quickly decided that we needed somewhere where we would feel more pampered. So we left after just 1 night of the 3 we had booked. It was quite basic. The room felt very cell like with a mattress essentially at floor level. The bed had a single cover on it - we used our own sleeping bag liners. And just a table in there too. A ceiling fan and a floor fan. We asked about a possible upgrade to a room with its own shower etc but they don't have these. There were a number of small ants in the room. The set of rooms in our area had 4 shower cubicles, 3 of which, as is usual in these areas, had the toilet in there too. There was large body soap dispensers in each cubicle, and there were 4 sinks outside too. There was no towels though. There is a small kitchen downstairs with a decent fridge. The receptionist was very helpful on arrival, marking many things that she thought would be useful for us on the map. But these were things like shopping, cheapest beer etc which mostly were not of interest to us. She also wrote them on the map upside down, and on review we couldn't read her handwriting. It is well situated, just minutes from the centre of Georgetown action. I guess it is fine for cheapo backpackers, but it was a step, downwards, too far for us.

Based on the reviews I expected better. The staff is good and very helpful and the place is very clean. The bathrooms were sufficient but I don't think they were full. We had a twin room with AC. The beds are not comfortable at all. The sheets are some type of polyester that slips all over the place and comes off the mattress so you end up on bare mattress in the middle of the night. You don't get a top sheet, just a very small blanket. The pillow was hard as rock. The outlets are beside the door and nowhere near your bed. The AC worked but would just shut off in the middle of the night. I'd wake up sweating and have to figure out how to turn the thing on at 3:30 am. As others have said, it's very noisy and impossible to sleep without earplugs. All things considered, I wouldn't stay here again as a good night's sleep is the most important part of a room.
